I'm of the opinion that while yes, it is good to support Capcom's somewhat-renewed efforts on the Ace Attorney series (I did buy this, and I'll be buying Dual Destinies, no doubt about it), it's also bad to allow a sloppy effort to go uncriticized. If it was just little things, like say if it was just the sound effects that were low quality, or just the script timings that were off, I would probably care a lot less, but we're talking about the actual soundtrack of the games, in a series that has amazing music that is incredibly important for setting the mood. It's like if you went to watch a big budget movie, with a big budget film score, in the IMAX or something, and the speakers made it sound like it was playing through a tin can. You know better can be done, you know better HAS been done, and it's not right that better ISN'T being done.

:yuusaku:...Of course, in the end, it's something we can fix for ourselves, so maybe it doesn't really matter

Yeah I'd rather support them by buying Dual Destinies as opposed to the HD collection anyway, I imagine they're expecting bigger sales from that anyway seeing as it's new property.

Not that uncommon. There's a whole load of speculation and rumours about corruption in the games journalism industry, where a company can pay X amounts of money to a site to comment favouribly on their piece of crap.

Like this article by Time magazine.

I think time magazine's glowing comments on the XBOX One (note that article came out the day after the announcement) is one of the biggest examples of flying in the face of general opinion at the time.

I didn't read the review, but its always possible as well that he just didn't play the original DS versions, and he's rating it highly because of the games themselves. Things like the lower frame rate and the absence of blinking probably wouldn't bother someone in the same way that playing it on wiiware without a lower screen probably wouldn't bother someone. I'm sure they know its a port of a DS game, so they probably just assumed the poor audio quality was in the original product.
I used to have Sam Waterston as my avatar but photobucket added a watermark and also Law & Order has been cancelled for 10 years so it's time for me to move on.

I highly doubt that there's that much corruption in the video games journalism industry. Yeah, you do see some writers getting paid off, and quite a few of the Metacritic user scores are from company workers; but those are exceptions, not the rule. If it's that widespread, why stop at video games? Assume that EVERYTHING ever written has bias, which it does. It's pretty much impossible to write something objectively without putting in any of your own views or establishing a tone. You just occasionally see some people taking it further because there's some incentive, that's all.

You see...you write that like it's an argument but it's basically everything I'd say as a case why it's bad.

"It's impossible to write something objectively without putting in your own views" - as wrong as this (in scientific journals for example) is generally I can understand how it applies true to a less formal thing like a review.

Then you say "You just occassionally see some people taking it further because there's some incentive, that's all", like it means nothing that they are adjusting their view because of incentive...in this case money.

Lets say there's a professional judging competition for something like ice skating, where the results are everything and aren't objective in any way but come from trusted sources. Lets say someone paid them a lot of money to say a certain pair of dancers are better than they ordinarily would say. They are just adjusting their view for a little extra incentive...no?

It's bribery, and yes big media is corrupt and takes legal bribes to say things are good. Especially in Games Journalism since it's such a big market these days. The site giantbomb.com actually formed from such an incident from workers at IGN who left in disgust when they were told they couldn't say bad things about a game in a review they gave.

I'm not really too bothered that SOME people are paid off. I think that it's safe to assume that almost every person has a price at some point, whether it's monetary or otherwise. It's human nature to do things for a reward, and I understand that. I'm pretty sure that if a game or movie is getting good reviews from most professional reviewers as well as users, it's very likely that it IS good and vice-versa. Not all reviewers can be paid off, can they?

I think objectivity is something that really isn't that clear at times. Sure, if your writing something that's the FACTS and nothing but the facts; then maybe it lacks any noticeable bias. But how do we know for sure? For instance, if you looked up in the dictionary a certain swear word, it would give you the definition, but also attach the word vulgar at the end. Why should something actually be considered "vulgar" just because society normally says so? If a professional art critic labels a painting as among "the most beautiful I've ever seen," exactly how do we define beauty? Because society says so? There are news stations like Fox who are obviously right-wing conservatives, but they laughably claim to be unbiased. To themselves they may appear to be unbiased, but what about to their viewers? Even the act of labeling something "biased" or "unbiased" is basically subjective. That's why I don't believe that something can be written without a certain degree of opinion.

Whether something can or can't be written without opinion isn't the issue here.

Whether it's ok to fob money at someone until you force them to say something with a strong bias is.

Also don't drag vague terms like 'human nature' into this, it's a very heavily contested and biased subject and I don't want to get into a gritty philosophy debate because for one thing, I wouldn't say it's at all safe to assume that every man or woman has their price be it money or otherwise it pretty much flies in the place of every martyr in history.

An it's not a load of sites they need to bribe, just a few big ones to ensure people's reviews go well, and it's definitely not above PR representatives to spend money getting fake people to say game X is awesome on Metacritic.

Point is people shouldn't take everything they see online at face value and should try and experience some things themselves.
Why back in my day I remember when your friend was the best opinion you could get on a game back before online reviewing was such a thing, now I feel a bunch of games will slip through the cracks because they just get little to no news at all.

Why not? Is it not human to want to do something because you're tempted by it?

By now you probably know a bit about my views from my previous posts, so you should know what I think about martyrs. I do not believe for a second that these people were ever incorruptible. In the right circumstances, they would have given up their views and beliefs if needed. For instance, if a martyrs' family was held up at gunpoint; do you think they would keep their views if it meant the deaths of those close to them? Like I said before, a person's "price" doesn't have to be monetary. Anyways, that's just my two cents. I don't want to get into another debate either.

That's exactly what I mean. The average person should be smart enough to decide whether something is good or not. If one review gives a game glowing reviews, while all other sites give it poor reviews; I'm sure they'd notice that something's up. I make a decision based upon the collective reviews of ALL sites, not just one or two. Plus, there's always game demos and *ahem* other methods to decide if a game is good or not before you buy it.

I can imagine having to that if I grew up during that time period. That, and looking at the box art and the tiny screenshots on the back to determine if I should buy the game. :godot:
I guess there would also be game magazine subscriptions too, but not everybody had one.

So I tried playing it again...But the FPS issues are still apparent. I can't enjoy this app knowing that it plays so slow, to a point where the music/cutscenes aren't syncing correctly.

It's a waste of 20 bucks to buy the whole thing...What a waste :X

Yeah, I hear you. It doesn't make any sense either. This game has been in Japan for over a year, and it's seen countless delays. You're telling me that Capcom couldn't fix any of this!? Why would they release what's essentially a broken product? Because they know that people will buy it anyways. They know how "hardcore" the AA fanbase is, so there's no problems for them because they believe that all of them will buy the full game. Well not me. I refuse to support this company if they can't even release a game that functions the way it should. Until they update this, I'm not buying it. :yuusaku:

Does anyone know if CR has made the HD backgrounds/screenshots available for download? I know they've had the HD sprites up for a while, but I'm looking for the other assets to round out the collection.

That's not what you were saying, you were implying that it's natural for humans to give in to temptation but even the term temptation implies resistance. Could argue restraint is in human nature as well.

An all I know about you Professor is that you are an atheist and I don't believe it's impossible for an atheist to have a belief worth sacrificing everything for.

An that's exactly what this is all about. The original thing was one site praising this shoddy port, I posted an article on a similar thing to say it's not uncommon. The Xbox one left a horrible impression especially the day after the showing yet one article came out praising it like something incredible. What you described does happen, and people DO notice things are up.

Yeah Game magazines are totally objective an fair XD but hey I think folks were more trusting and less scrutinous back then.

:yuusaku: I feel old now knowing there's a whole generation of gamers who didn't experience that time.

If this has been out in Japan, does the Japanese version has any issues with the laggy gameplay as well? If so and they still haven't fix this, I'm having second thoughts as well whether to buy the Android version or not once it will be release. :yuusaku:

Idk if that's referring to me, but I do have access to all the game contents inside. There's someone else who posted on the first page of this thread that has access to all the game contents as well (for the purpose of modifying the game with some orchestrated music versions of the OST). I've ripped it all out already, but my uploading speed is too slow to contribute to the CR site :P

But Henke's right, you really should try joining in the IRC once in awhile, you never know what to expect ;)

This thread has the rips from the Japanese games, and there's a large zip file with some backgrounds and evidence. Apart from that, the characters are on the official site, as you've seen :edgy:

On the note of buying this HD remake, I'll hold off for now, It's still lacking some things (And I'm sure that video cutscene in AA1-5 hasn't been upsized yet either). The only thing that's making me think otherwise is there slight script change, but then again, anyone could just post those if there are any significant ones.

As the Trilogy also hit the European Appstore it found rather quickly its way onto my iPhone (4). First I looked at the page for the updates as I thought the Trilogy will update onto the first iPhone-Version - well, as you know it didn't but in hindsight I'm fine with it. I do have both versions now on my device. :yogi:

After realizing that having the first version has no effects at all (eg getting the first game for free) I bought the whole Trilogy at once for 14,99 EUR. I wanted to buy JFA and T&T anyway which are sold at 5,99 EUR each. I will not complain about the approx 3 EUR I could have spared... let's say I have still hopes for AAI2 and decided to support the franchise... :yuusaku:

I was a bit afraid at first since the options menu is lagging a lot! It's damn slow and I began to think that my good old iPhone 4 might be too old. But actually except for the options and some scenes where the text is supposed to be a bit slower by default (like some cutscenes or the parts indicating date and time with the text machine sounds - it is reeeally slow here!) it does not lag at all. I restarted the original version for iPhone recently, this one DOES lag, believe me.

Which surprised me the most (as I was not aware of this option) was the fact that - provided you bought the cases/games - you can start at any chapter! Of any case! So if you want to cross-examine Iris right off the start (in HD!) you will be able to do so. You do not have to play the cases - or even the chapters - in chronological order, nothing's locked. The chapter chosing option will come in handy while trying to get all achievements :will:

Well, I am looking forward to replaying the Trilogy (again for the ... I stopped counting...). I like the HD-graphics and think it does look great. As far as I played two cases I really enjoyed it!

Oh - and for my European fellows: English only. Zumindest im deutschen Store gibt es nur eine englische Version. Je ne sais pas si il y a une version francaise mais je ne crois pas.
Oldbag: Shush! I'm talking to my dear Edgey-Wedgey right now! Don't interrupt us, gramps!

I'm sorry, I checked through the first page, and perhaps it's because it's 2:30 in the morning, but I didn't see any rips.

As for IRC, this is my first time in the forums in roughly a year. Downloading the AAHD app is actually what brought me back. Probably shouldn't get sucked into IRC chats - I don't have too much time to devote to all this right now. :larry:

As for IRC, this is my first time in the forums in roughly a year. Downloading the AAHD app is actually what brought me back. Probably shouldn't get sucked into IRC chats - I don't have too much time to devote to all this right now. :larry:

The zips are on page 2 :sillytrucy:
Here's the link to the images (The scripts are also uploaded on page 2): LINK

Actually, I forgot to mention it before, but... You know iFunBox, right? Well, it's true that you can only write files to app folders on a jailbroken device. However, as for reading files FROM a device, that's a different story; you can do it on any iDevice on any computer that has iTunes. So, if you so desired, you could go in and rip everything yourself.
Also, fun fact: since I saw someone mention the fully-animated surveillance video, I went in and had a look, expecting to find an MP4 video file there or something, but instead, each frame of the video is a PNG file, and these PNGs are displayed rapidly in sequence to create a video effect. Talk about inefficient...

Anyhow, as for the music replacement project, I'm working hard!

...is what I'd like to say, but I've been laid up in bed with a cold... Uuugh. I'm gonna try and get back on it and be done with it before the end of this week, cuz once Animal Crossing New Leaf comes out, I'll probably forget all about Ace Attorney til Dual Destinies is about to come out.

I bet that it's the same images as from the ds version.

If I recall correctly, somebody posted the image sequence in another thread already. They completely remade it... for the worse. I recall it being a series of images instead of video, and it looked completely different too.

Does anyone here agree that even the Wii ports were better than this "HD Collection?" Sure they had a lower resolution, but at least they ran and played like they should have. I guess the original DS Trilogy are the best versions in the end. :meekins:

Somehow I ended up watching gameplay from the wii version on my tv when I was trying to quote some text from the third game and it didn't look nearly as bad as I thought.
I used to have Sam Waterston as my avatar but photobucket added a watermark and also Law & Order has been cancelled for 10 years so it's time for me to move on.

I do like the Wii ports better, as they have smooth framerates, high quality sounds and music, and I adore pointing the Wiimote to present evidence. But, if people don't want to spend $30 to get the trilogy, and/or want to try out a few cases first, the HD Trilogy is the way to go!

It's always good to compare and contrast the different ports. I think the DS versions are the best followed by the Wiiware ports. The IOS trilogy, may not be a perfect port, but it's at least nice to look at the HD sprites. People even criticized the Wii ports when they came out, didn't they? It did seem a bit redundant that Case 1-5 was DLC for the Wiiware. :yuusaku:

The great thing about the AA games is that if its your first time playing them, the story carries any technical issues that might be an issue for people like us that have already played them on another system. So it all balances out in the end.

That's really true. There's many ways that you can play these games and it doesn't really matter if it's your first time playing. I first played PW:AA on the DS that I borrowed from a friend and then I went to JFA & T&T on the Wiiware ports.

For anyone who wants to try and update the GBA quality songs to the DS ones or even replace the soundtrack with a new one, I've taken the liberty of labeling just about every song on the app. I probably messed up in a few places, like labeling the prologue songs, and I didn't identify one of JFA's songs and all of Rise of the Ashes' soundtrack. Still, this should be plenty, right?

I wonder if I'm the only one ok with this port. I think the HD sprite suits better the iphone/ipod/ithingy than the old sprite. I mean, most of the game ARE made in "high definition" (most of the pixel arted game are quite high def too if you compare to other system, plus they're going for nostalgia.) What was to main issue about the ancient port was the music just stoping and the fact that the screen was way too small and I wondered why didn't they adopted the inteface of the GBA. Also for the missing frame in animation, personally I don't look that much the sprite (shame on me!) simply because my main focus is on the text and yes I'm unable to focus on two things at the time. For the music, well I don't really care (except the cheering at the end wich sound just really bad). Maybe it's because I don't play with my earphones but I'm mainly unable to hear a major difference. In my head it sound much like the DS version except for some notes. (Hooray we can shut the typo sound! Even if it would have been better if we just controled the volume, oh well...)

It's funny when I read your comments it remember me and my friends after seeing a movie, and since I had a small formation in cinema well I see more than I should in a movie and complain even more. Than my friend would shout "shut up can't you just sit down and simply enjoy a movie!". Remember guys, yes it is to please the fans that this trilogy exist but think about it. It is also a great way to promote the series for other people! Two cases free, good review (for the moment) and sprite that suit better the Ithingy thing. Of course the Iphone 5 compatibility is a problem but they have time to fix it (I have read on a website that the release date is still in july, maybe to just reasure the fans about the english only issue). So not perfect but still nice to play

Now if only they could correct the ancient version replacement.
Please don't hit me...

I just find it sad that they decided to take the easy way out and just prerender the music. Playing prerendered audio is so simple that it is almost an insult to the technology of last decade.

So as I've been working on fixing the music and stuff, I've had to play through parts of the cases to test the looping, and in doing so I've come to a certain conclusion.

This port is pretty much complete garbage.

The bad-quality music, the missing and wrong sound effects, the messed-up graphics and graphical effects (no fade-ins, anywhere, ever? really?), the little scripting errors, the BIG scripting errors... it all adds up to a bunch of garbage that annoys me too much for me to keep working on it in any meaningful way.

So I'm washing my hands of the whole mess. Here's my work so far (edit: sorry, needed space on Google Docs so I removed it), for whoever chooses to work on it from here. Good luck. Hopefully, someone will eventually figure out the scripting format and fix the problems with this port that music editing can't solve, so that the original trilogy can have the justice it deserves done to it.

That's ironic, seeing as how iOS devices are like twenty times more powerful than the GBA/DS. There really is no excuse on why we've been given this shoddy port. Like I said many times before though, Capcom simply doesn't care. First off, people who've never played these games before won't notice the differences. And two, people who have played them before will still buy it anyways. And I highly doubt they'll ever update this game. At least not anytime soon. :yuusaku:

These actually are pretty useful... im already working on a port of Remixes and tracks from GSSB and these will be pretty helpful, will you mind if i use them?

I'm just writing to add that along with mostly everyone else, I am also disappointed in the port, especially with the graphical bugs, and where they've cut corners (no blinking for some characters, and lack of proper shading/gradients in areas).

I am very interested in the musical fix, and look forward to what the community puts together. Cheers to Supakitsune and Paviv14.
