Probably not much, but in 4-2 she did mention being rather clumsy and “having no talent”. Could be an excuse, but to perform lab work proficiently you do need a steady hand.

I was somewhat surprised that they didn’t mention Lana in AJ, but then again they didn’t mention a host of other characters either. Maybe she’s still in prison? I doubt she would be involved in anything relating to law if she got out. Unless the law enforcement system is really whack in the GS world, convicted felons are usually barred from taking jobs in the police force or legal business.

Certain jobs simply require a bit of natural talent and proficiency to do well. Especially in working with something as serious as forensic science. You don’t want a klutz handling sensitive evidence, for a real life example just look at the debacle that was the OJ Simpson murder trial … Although none of that stops Ema from using her non-issue, sometimes store-bought forensics equipment. You know she’s liable to get fired if any of her supervisors knew, or cared for the matter (they probably tolerate it because it produces actual results).

I haven’t played 4-2 in a while but I also remember Ema mentioning that her work area is a mess and that she’s constantly breaking things. She said something along the lines of “rank and title doesn’t matter, it’s what in your heart that counts” when Apollo asked why she wasn’t a scientific investigator. That’s probably what she tells herself when she cries herself to sleep. There’s only so much determination and hard studying can do for you. Personally, I always wanted to be an artist but just wasn’t adept at it.

I guess Klavier isn't a bad choice in your sense. He has a lot of fans, and has a good backstory to fill in. But other than that, what else? Edgey had his cold hard logic, but what does Klavier have? A magical guitar who tells him the logic? Also, who would be his "sidekick"? Hopefully not Ema, it would just be her bitching about him all the time. And, Edgey did the investigations himself. Klavier probably is too busy being a rockstar to to do it, so he'd probably leave it to Ema anyways.

I think you're selling Klavier short. There's nothing about the Logic System that makes it specific to Edgeworth: it really is just plain old deduction, which anyone can do. For Klavier to have made prosecutor at 17 means he has to be able to at least put 1 and 1 together (which is pretty much all you do with the Logic system: key + keyhole = profit etc).

If it was a prequel, Klavier's sidekick could be any new character, just like they gave Edgeworth Kay. Maybe another Gavinner or Gavinner wannabe? (since they're all in law enforcement). We know in AJ Klavier was a little lax about investigating when it was a case he didn't care about, but he took it seriously when it mattered. That would probably be even more true at the start of his career.

If it was after AJ, Ema would be a fine assistant. Their banter would be very different from the typical "20-something guy suffering the silliness of teenaged girls" but I would welcome the change. Or, a new character would be great too. And after everything that happened to him in AJ, Klavier would be even more invested in taking law seriously at that point.

How did she herself personally feel about the SL-9 case after being caught up in it? She still has some things to say.

But those are all things in the past. I don't want to spend time rehashing SL-9 when they already wrapped that all up in 1-5, any more than I would want Edgeworth to have spent all of GK lamenting over DL-6. The series needs to move forward, introduce new characters and focus on new cases, otherwise it'll just stagnate.

another article in English of this interview in 4gamers:http://www.andriasang.com/e/blog/2009/06/29/ace_attorney_secrets/

Quote:
The Perfect Prosecutor was originally the Perfect Detective!
Posted Jun 29, 2009 at 13:15, by Anoop Gantayat

Ace Attorney Investigations is known here in Japan as "Gyakuten Kenji." This name is similar to that of the Ace Attorney series' Japanese name, Gyakuten Saiban, with the Saiban, or court, replaced by Kenji, or prosecutor.

It turns out that the game might have originally been Gyakuten Keiji. Keiji is Japanese for detective. Yes, rather than starring genius prosecutor Miles Edgeworth (Reiji Mitsurugi), the game was originally planned to be lead by a detective, specifically Gyakuten Saiban 4's Ema Skye (Akane Houzuki).

Investigations director Go Yamazaki revealed this bit of Gyakuten trivia in an interview that was posted to 4gamer on Friday.

While Ema Skye was all set to make her lead role debut, the idea was killed off when Yamazaki and crew consulted producer Motohide Eshiro. Also sitting in on the interview, Eshiro explained that he told Yamazaki to consider what character players most wanted to see in the main character role. Of course, the answer is Edgeworth, rival to Saiban series main character Phoenix Wright (Ryuichi Naruhodo).
Image
From left to right, Phoenix Wright, Ema Skye, and Miles Edgeworth.

Skye fans should note that the character did make the cut as a support role for Investigations.

Outside of this, Eshiro gave a hint at a possible Investigations sequel. He noted that due to fan response, they've developed Investigations not as a sequel in the Gyakuten Saiban series, but as a new pillar for the series. It's "very possible" that they'll make a sequel, he said.

The 4gamer interview is extremely long and touches upon all areas of the game, from gameplay to voice recordings. If you can read the Japanese, it's an interesting read.

I'm not for a game with an investigator as main character, so I agree with Blinq.

It would be better to have a prosecutor as a main character but a special case would be interesting! Anyway if it's really Ema as the main investigator so I hope it will be between AA and AJ because I don't really like her in AJ. She was too upset and boring with her snackoos, not like the smiling, fangirl Ema of AA or of
Spoiler:
GK.
Sorry for the Ema's fans!

And I don't if that's really a good point but an investigator isn't not really powerful. I mean in all the game it's the attorney or the prosecutor who managed to "discover the truth" or the criminal, in trial or else, the investigator just does the tests and the investigation, and a testimony or two. That means that if the main character is an investigator then it would be probably him who would get the truth and the criminal, that would change all of the game, no?

I'm glad they are going to make more Gyakuten Kenji, if it's as epic as the first one I'm all for it.

However, before they release another GK... Please, PLEASE, release GS5! Lol... Sorry, I really want to see what happens next in Apollo's story. The ending left a lot of questions open IMO.

Who says AAI:KG, if that's where this is going [And I think it's where we should be, we've had our fun in the past with Edgey-poo but let's stay in the present] has to take place in the past? I'd honestly prefer for it to take place in the near future of GS4, considering, well, since Klavier hates investigations so much, there's no reason that he wouldn't hate them beforehand, and thus you have to initiate a catalyst for him to take the role of the detective.

Like, say, Klavier gets accused of murder, digs around, proves somebody else did it, and is all "Hey! This detective crap is pretty cool! Why not stay like this for a while?"

Oh, and Klavier is hilariously perceptive. In case 2 he shuts down "But Wocky was running away from his house!" before Apollo even got to argue it out loud, in case 3 it was his idea to whip out the mixing board, and also in case 3 he was able to detect a missed cue despite it not being at all audible [Without screwing with the volume] I'm sure he could get his own special ability. Maybe reading thoughts? [Not the obvious ones like "Oh no! He found out my secret! I have to find some way to cover this up!] but rather reading kneejerk reactions. Like...this is difficult to explain in text, so I'll provide a brief example.

Klavier: *Presents knife* ...And what do you have to say about this?
Witness: (! How'd he know about that...!?) ...I don't have anything to say about that. You're wasting my time.
Klavier: (Oh, I wouldn't be so sure...So he knows something about this knife, but what?)

Though I kinda think we might get GS5 first...two Investigation games in a row just seems odd.

To be honest any lawyer/prosecutor/detective would be fine with me in an AAI game as main character. I like 99% of characters. And I'd actually like to see a Klavier Gavin game.

The only thing that would kill me would be an Ace Attorney Investigations: Moe. But that's not going to happen... Right?

I think the only problem doing a Klavier game post-AJ is that if he also appears in GS5 that's an awful lot of Klavier! Not that *I'd* mind... :3 But part of the appeal of having a spin-off series is being able to do things separate from the main plot. That'd be hard to do if the timeline was Klavier-packed from GS4 to GK2 to GK5.

In terms of his character it would be the best time to do it, but if they're going to continue to use GK as cameo-land, some people might be frustrated if old characters showed up to interact with Klavier but not with Apollo and Phoenix (especially since at that point they'd only be a stone's throw away, as it were).

Conflict and tragedy makes things interesting. The GS series has an issue with some characters being awfully one-dimensional. Life doesn’t always work out the way you want it to, seeing characters change, grow and adapt is half the fun. Upon first seeing Hobohodo I was like “oh yeah, gimmie moar!”

There are ways around the Klavier overdose issue. Who said he had to play a prominent roll in GS5? Continuing the tradition of the Phoenix Arc, shouldn’t there be a new main prosecutor per game to challenge Apollo with? Granted, Edgeworth did make an appearance in GS2 & 3 but they don’t necessarily have to repeat themselves to the letter. The release timeline would go something like this:
GS4 (Apollo/Klavier) GK1 (Edgey/Gumshoe) GS5 (Apollo/Franzy 2.0) GK2 (Klavier/Ema) GS6 (Apollo/Godot 2.0)
Or by timeline do you mean the in game canon events?

Edit: You did mean the in-game timeline … I has reading comprehension, really :meekins:
I guess that would be an over saturation of Klavier.

Actually after your little...example the concept of Klavier is pretty interesting.

I'd always thought he hadn't had the patience for it and would simply resort to something "Achtung Fraulein Skye! Take this case off my hands for me" as far as investigation went but thinking about the mixing board incident.....he seemed pretty dedicated when something was up and he wanted to know who done it.

Though I'd put down to him picking up on the missed cue as a byproduct of his experience in the music industry I imagine he'd develop a sense for when a track sounds right.

Still from your example it seems like simple reading body language

Klavier's ability could involve sound. Such as matching a sound to something you heard earlier, or something...

Could be a problem for people who play with the sound turned down, though :P

Well they could say "This game is best played with earphones" or something.
Good idea though.

Yes, that'd be good. And wouldn't involve sound necessarily.

Could be a problem for people who play with the sound turned down, though :P

I think that's a really good idea, and ingenious as well.

Seeing as I do enjoy Klavier (I think I qualify as a fangirl, though I'm not sure) I would love to see a game exploring his background. And I've always been curious as to how much Kristoph's...um...craziness effected Klavier. I think GS4 did a good job of giving Klavier plenty of character, but more can't hurt.

But then, there's the matter of having a defense attorney and a sidekick and other characters to flesh out the story...Hmm. Now I'm not sure what to think. :keiko:

I like the thought of the idea....but I'm not sure how well he could apply it to his investigations unless he was nearby when a murder was commited and he heard something unusual then. :yuusaku:

True, that's one of the reasons why I'm not sure if Klavier could star in his own game...He's a completely different flavor when compared to Edgeworth, though they're both prosecutors.

So, the most important thing we learned from the interview is that they haven't started making GS5 yet.

Tuesday said she's not 100% sure which way the wording implies. I haven't had a chance to take a look at it myself, but maybe one of our other Japanese speakers can shed some light...?

They've been busy with GK so maybe the haven't started with GS5, but then again, they could have different teams making both games. At this time it doesn't make sense that they do not have started making a GS5, IMO.

But it's entirely possible that they had started GS5 as soon as GK was finished and that they have already started slightly while GK was being marketted and sold.

I agree, they may have at least started GS5 and we could hear about it more at TGS in September.

Clearly, what we need is the pre 1-5 AAI: Lana & Gant, with bonus making-fake-evidence minigames.

Capcom is proud to produce AAI Zero: Damon Gant. Create incriminating evidence by planting items at the scenes of the crime. Throw the investigation off course by 'accidentally' letting your 5 year old grand kid draw flowers and mustaches on important photographic evidence. Create mistrials by withholding key evidence from the lawyers. And enjoy great recreational activities such as swimming. Coming to you on the Nintendo Virtual Boy.

Nice one, Wooster. Gant's not good enough for the GBA?
