That's still the Edgeworth alt. It just looks more red because of the saturate shaky cam colors. You can tell because of the Mia colors on Maya.

I was watching the Capcom-Unity stream just now and Missile gets alternate colors too. With the Edgeworth/Mia scheme Missile is gray like a wolf.

While we're talking alt colors, why doesn't Maya have a Franziska color scheme to match Phoenix's Edgey? It would make more sense, I think.

I was thinking the same thing. Best logic I could come up with is that Edgeworth is the most obvious recolor for Wright, and Mia is the most obvious recolor for Maya, so it makes some sense that each of those would be in the first recolor set. A little weird that they wouldn't pair them up to match, but if the other recolors get increasingly abstract then maybe it just didn't make sense to pair them in any particular way.

What's wrong with being a joke character? Cause that's exactly what he is. Joke characters bring refreshing gameplay elements and they also provide comedy relief which is exactly what Phoenix does.

So it does have a hitbox? I've been looking at how it's done and it just doesn't seem to miss, the fact it doesn't need an attack to connect to initiate it and the players don't regain control of the characters until it's finished made me think it was just unavoidable.

It's pretty much the same hitbox as Gravity Squeeze, it hits the entire screen so it's not a physical attack like most level 3's. I'm pretty sure it can be blocked. It'd be a extremely over powered if it was like X-23's and Shuma's which are unblockable. Not that it's hard to combo with Phoenix in turnabout mode...

Well take a look at this

He bursts out the level 3 when Taskmaster is a good distance away on the ground. Though there is no return of control to the characters, no projectile or dash that can be blocked. He just starts the move and they only regain control after the end of the move.

That's what makes me think it's unblockable...because it hits without giving a block opportunity.

How many pallet swaps do the characters get?

Though, frankly for lack of cravat the "Edgeworth" coloring looks more like our friend from Ghost Trick. Too bad about the hair though.

It may look like there's no opportunity to block at first, but the spot is between cuts. Looking at Magneto's Gravity Squeeze, between him saying "Gravity Squeeze" and raising his arms, it then cuts to the opponent already grabbed. If the opponent is blocking beforehand, then it never cuts to the rest of that cinematic and the level 3 ends abruptly. The key spot is finding where the camera cuts to a different angle.

With this in mind, take a look at Phoenix's level 3. In his trailer at 1:12, we see a close-up of his face before the camera cuts to the shot of him at the desk. I presume that at this opportunity, the game checks to see if the opponent was blocking before the hyper, quite like Magneto's. If they weren't, then it continues. But if they are, then I would assume the hyper gets dropped and the fight goes on. I thought it might be unblockable at first because Phoenix's line goes on during that cut, but perhaps that'll change later or he'll add another line upon failing to connect afterwards.
:phoenix: "The one who actually committed the crime..."
*cinematic stops*
:nick-sweat: "I have no idea."

Long story short, entire screen wide hypers like Magneto's can be blocked, but have to be blocking before it activates. I would imagine Wright's hyper having the same properties.

Pierre was just a little confused because Phoenix used it while Taskie was ground bounced and thought that Taskie could've recovered before the level 3. It's definitely blockable. A level 3 that does 600k unscaled damage that's unblockable is probably the equivalent of level 3 XF Dark Phoenix spamming her feathers and teleports.

So, assuming that Phoenix's Downloadable outfit is Hobohodo, since the alternative would be GS3-1 with the big pink sweater... which considering the sneezing, isn't an unreasonable assumption either...

Phoenix, Maya, Missel
Edgeworth, Mia, Grey

So, four more suits to go...

For Maya, I can see either Pearl, Hazakurain, Trucy, Franny, Kay or Ghost Trick's Lynn (Even though that's 6, gets some wee-lay)

For Phoenix, I'd say Tigre, Gumshoe, Godot, GS3-1's "Nick", Larry

For Missel? Uh...

I'm holding out for a Gant/Lana colour and an Apollo/Trucy colour.
And if the Hobo Phoenix outfit rings true, I'm hoping for Maya to be dressed as older Ema.

I'm not usually one for fighting games, but this is too brilliant to pass up. There are a few other Capcom and a couple of Marvel characters I like in there as well.

I think I'll get this, it's at a budget price too. I'll end up playing only as Phoenix, though.

Just to be specific: You do not have to be blocking before Phoenix Wright or Magneto execute their level 3 hypers. You merely have to be in a state that allows to you block at that instant. For example. If you are in the middle of an opponent's combo, in the middle of performing your own attack, being ground bounced/in a state of hard knockdown, then you will be unable to block the hyper. But if you are simply standing or in the air during a jump, you will be given plenty of time to react.

Here's an explanation for anyone new to the game along with a couple of images from the video you're talking about to help:

Spoiler:
Image
So we have Phoenix Wright in the middle of activating his level 3 hyper. It takes a little while to start up at this exact point, and the game is still in motion. It's possible Phoenix could even be hit out of the hyper at this point, but we're not sure if it has invincibility frames on start-up, which is what most level three 3 have.

Spoiler:
Image
Next comes the cinematic which follows any hyper, where the camera zooms up into the character's face and they announce whatever move they're about to use. This is when you have PLENTY of time to react with a block, assuming you're not in a state like I mentioned above. Note that if the reason you can't block is because you're in the middle of your own attack, you can usually cancel out of it with a hyper of your own. However, if the hyper does not have invincibility frames, it'll just be a waste of effort and hyper bar. Very few hypers can counter a level 3, never mind an instant screen-encompassing one like Nick's or Magnus'.

Spoiler:
Image
This screenshot is right after the zoom-in on Phoenix's face while he's in the middle of saying "The one who actually committed the crime..." This is when the game spends ONE frame of the game to decide whether or not you blocked or if the level 3 hyper will connect. Before it was executed, Taskmaster was in the middle of being ground bounced, and this devastating hyper attacks anywhere on screen and even OTGs (hits them if they're on the ground). So as you can see, Tasky here is already in the stunned state and he's now definitely caught by the hyper...

Spoiler:
Image
...so the rest of the attack will now play out until it finishes (level 3 hypers continue and deal damage even if the timer runs out in the middle of the cinematic).

Hope this wasn't TMI. I just realise that it's hard to tell what's going on half of the time in a game as crazy as Marvel vs Capcom if you haven't played it much or at all before.

Seth Killian with Phoenix Wright hands on:
http://www.twitch.tv/capcomunity/b/297396243
Starts at about 18:20 and shows a lot of what's going on. Good stuff.

Looks to me like Nick takes a bit to get going but then becomes a complete beast with the right evidence. Also, Nova calls him "Mr. Wright." I hope Hulk calls him "PORCUPINE HEAD."

Seth's doing another panel on Saturday at 10 or 10:30 eastern. Maybe more Wright talk!

More Phoenix hands-on with S-Kill:
http://www.twitch.tv/capcomunity/b/297532323
Starts at about 23:10 and confirms that there is canonically only one Maya Fey. Dang.

Also Seth has no idea what the attorney's badge is and Edgeworth's Steel Samurai figurine is bad evidence.

Here's some camcorder footage of Heroes and Heralds, the new mode for UMvC3:

The special powers you get come from cards featuring characters not in the game. There weren't any seen in the trailer, but I'd expect even more Ace Attorney cameos from this.

Are you happy now Pierre? You got a new mode to have more fun offline experience with. I've been really curious ever since I heard about Heroes vs Heralds. The amount of ecstasy and salt is going to increase twofold online.

Edit: Updated Movie Intro, you can barely see Phoenix. He's blew Deadpool out of a building with his Objection. Deadpool... well he went out the only way Deadpool can leave a building.

Each character gets six colors so fantasize one more pair. We also have confirmation that all of Phoenix's alts are in-universe references. Capcom has been doing an alternate color series on their website as well (for example, Deadpool and Morrigan here) so we should find out what's in store before release.

Missile gets alt colors too, don't forget!

OK, add Klavier then. (Not Kristoph, since that would basically result in just Nick with blonde hair and a slightly pinker tie...)

As for Missile, I don't really care too much about his colors. ^^; :missile:

One coloration should be Shoe though. :shoe:

Well, if Wright does get downloadable costumes, I don't know if I'll buy it or not. I want to support the Ace Attorney franchise, but I don't want to support Capcom's shit DLC releases, since they release about 7 million damn costume packs every damn year.

The recolors in this thread inspired me to make a few of my own ideas. I'm not sure if they'll have Apollo or Godot costumes, just because I'm not sure if the "vest" look created by making the sleeves a different color would work well in 3D.

I think my mockup for a Larry lookalike didn't come out quite right, but I think it would look better with proper coloration, and while it looks odd in this victorious pose, I think it'd look more convincing when he's bumbling around in-game. The Gumshoe costume came out better than I thought it would. I actually think these two make a lot of sense, since they're two of the main recurring characters in the series...

Image

The Redd White costume just occurred to me when I noticed how many of the MvC characters have pink costumes, and I think the purple hair and gem-colored buttons and badge would stand out pretty dramatically. I didn't base the black suit on any particular character (though it bears an incidental similarity to Shelly De Killer), I just think it'd look cool.

The reveal of Pheonix in MvC3 made for a monumentous occasion. I couldn't believe it, and they even made such a perfect fighting style for him. I wonder if its high execution/high reward type though. I like how intricate it is.

I hope the alternate costume is Edgeworth and Kay or Sissel and Lynne.
