Interview: Ace Attorney Investigations producer Motohide Eshiro
http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/28/inter ... de-eshiro/

Quote:
In Japan, there were two different special editions for Ace Attorney Investigations. Is there going to be anything like that in North America?

As of right now, we don't have any plans on the drawing board to make limited editions or anything like that. Not in North America, not in Europe.

Quote:
There's a fansite in America called Court Records. Have you seen that?

I've never seen that before.

Quote:
Given the popularity in Japan, this seems like a perfect property for an anime series. Has that been done or talked about before?

We agree, it does seem like something that would fit anime very well. We actually have not talked about it at all -- there's been no plans, we've never actually even talked with any animation companies or anything. I don't know if you're aware of it, but in Japan, we've had shows with Takarazuka, the all-female revue troupe, and now we've got our second show with them.

Quote:
Capcom's been doing mobile and PC ports of the series in Japan. Is that going to continue? Is there any chance of that coming over here?

Right now we haven't had any real dialogue about making PC versions or any cell phone versions. I think the first one was out here on phones. But other than that, we haven't had any discussion. No plans.

Quote:
What about a console version, like via WiiWare?

As far as I'm aware, there hasn't been any real discussion of that. We'll see.

I imagine the language barrier is a little too high for the Japanese developers to break through, unfortunately. ;D

Very nice interview.
Does we even do these things anymore?

Gah, I was going to post this -_-
JGIRL beat me to it :)

You heard Mr. Eshiro, guys. Basically, he reassured Capcom's position towards Ace Attorney fans: "Make enough noise and we'll hear you."

Eshiro wrote:

Very well. Now go make it. Please :3

I actually find it interesting that he said "We agree". That "We" made me think that they spoke about it and agreed that Ace Attorney fits into an anime. I wonder if they'll ever actually make one.
Seeing how popular the series has always been in Japan, and has recently been in North America and Europe, an AA anime wouldn't be a bad idea. At all.

yes. Actually. WE WERE VERY AWARE.

I think this entire interview was a way for japan to make us feel small and insignificant. orz

Quick note: the fact that Eshiro does not know about Court Records is a good thing. Capcom Japan is a lot more rigid when it comes to the kind of content fansites can host than Capcom America, so if he does see what goes on around here he might be obliged to try and stop us >.>

He’d probably be dissuaded by all the 503errors and not get to see all our haxor content anyway. Maybe something good came out of the server problems after all.

I do think Eshiro knows about CR (even though I doubt he's a regular), because I don't think he would close the website if he knew about it. I mean, fan websites like CR are very important for video-games not well-known in the US/Europe. It helps building a fan community, and spread the word about such games as the PW series. And since they just keep telling us to spread the word about the games... that's exactly what CR does in my opinion. And I don't see how ripping sprite from the games would endanger Capcom, or cause the game to sell less well. It's not as if CR provided roms of the games, is it ?

However, I still agree with croik (about Capcom Japan), but I think that doesn't mean he don't know about CR, rather than he doesn't want people (especially those from Capcom Japan) to know he knows about such a website such as CR.

***

I'm also sad to hear that we won't get any special edition for GK when it's released in the US, or even in Europe... maybe they'll change their plans, who knows ? There's still less than 7 months before the release... even though I wouldn't set my hopes too high about such a thing... :larry:

A PW anime ? Errr... well, we did get a female-only musical (two in facts), so I guess an anime would be OK. The only problem is that the great majority of video-games inspired animes/movies are very mediocre. There are exceptions of course, but I don't know if I'd like Capcom to take the risk...

....It almost sounded as if he was surprised by the fact that people even know what Gyakuten Saiban is in America.

Like "Oh, YOU guys want an LE? Do people there even care enough for an LE?"

I think the number of the GK teacups that were imported alone should speak loudly enough, but would there even be a way to prove it...?

*IDEA* Everyone who bought a teacup, take a picture with it and email it to Capcom. Think that would be loud enough?

I feel like I just caught my childhood hero's drinking in some dark corner... :larry:

well at least there open to new things they just got to get talking about it more i was happy to know they thought an anime was a good idea. To bad they don't know court records but like Croik they could get mad if they did but i would hope they would be really happy I guess it depends on the person I personally think it would be an honor to see such a nicely made site even if were a bit silly. I love how if you look up court records on google now it will first before all the law sites I hope some lawyer will stumble upon it on accident one day and end up in the edgey fan base haha.

It's surprising the interviewer actually asked for "a Judge game" and "minigames". He must be among us.

I wouldn't mind a 200 Nintendo Points DSiWare app-minigame called "Judge: Ace Whack-A-Moleist".

I would buy, like, twelve.

Most of the answers seemed be "we haven't discussed it". Capcom doesn't really communicate a lot with their employees, do they? ^^;
It's like "Oh. We shouldn't have to discuss all of these outlandish ideas! I don't think we have enough fans and support~ SAD FACE. "

I'm starting to think the foreign GS fanbase is bigger than the Japanese GS fanbase. xD

maybe they're busy with another project or haven't think of any new ones for the gyakuten series, since probably they're still investigating on the response of Gyakuten Kenji in the market.

Would one of the exceptions include Devil Kings (aka Sengoku Basara)? Just got introduced to that phenomenal anime tonight.
