We've got a lot of Ghost Trick / Ace Attorney news today it seems. The following lines appeared in the latest issue of Famitisu in an interview with Shu Takumi.

Quote:
ファミ通:
ところで、『逆転裁判』シリーズは今後どのように展開していくのでしょうか?

Famitsuu: By the way, how will the Gyakuten Saiban series develop from now on?

Quote:

Takumi: I can't really say anything about it. For me, there might be the development of the Ghost Trick series, or maybe I'll making something new. Even when we made Gyakuten Saiban, we didn't think it would become a series, so what will happen is up to the people playing our games.

...It's all squares to me ._.

Anyway, I hope this isn't a bad omen =\ Didn't they confirm GS5 or something? I know they don't want to take away hype and promotion from AAI, which is why they haven't released info about it, but still... Well, he is working on Ghost Trick, so I suppose even if it's not GS, we should still get the awesomeness of Takumi in some form or another. (I really want GS5 so that Polly can get his own arc; if it were to just end now, then AJ would really just be an epilogue to the Phoenix arc.)

Oh, and thanks for the info, JapaneseGIRL! ^_^

Yes, thanks for the tidbit!

This remark can be interpreted in more than one way. What it SHOULDN'T mean, though, is that the plug has been/will be pulled on GS5 (he better not mean that :zenitora:). After all, the freaking president of Capcom himself said there would be a GS5. Of course, he could have spoken without prior consultation with the developer, but if that were so and there was not, in fact, going to be a GS5, how likely is it that they would have allowed this misstatement to go uncontested for MONTHS ON END?!

Bottom line, GS5 should still be safe, even if it remains far in the distance.

So...If Ghost Trick turn out to be really popular, Takumi will move on to the Ghost Trick series?

...what about GS series then? *heart broken*

I think what Takumi meant was that he wasn't sure what his involvement in future GS games would be, he seems to be interested in moving on to other games. I don't think he's saying the future of the GS series is in any doubt, just that he's not sure he'll be working on them.

You can read between the lines even further and say that he isn't allowed to talk about it. Again, Capcom likes big announcements, a leak in an interview isn't going to fly.

That said, if I were him, I'd be a little tired of being the GS guy and want to try some different things. I mean, look at Retro Studios and the Metriod saga, or Bungie and Halo, people need breaks from things. Doesn't mean the saga is dead, but that the artists need time to stretch their creative juices.

It sounds like he's saying he's not going to be working on GS anymore. But that doesn't mean the series will end, since he wasn't really involved in AAI either.

I don't think we're going to hear about GS5 until after they're done promoting Ghost Trick. Adventure games aren't as popular as Capcom's other fighting franchises. Especially considering Ghost Trick is a new title without a fan base, I doubt Capcom would be willing to saturate the market.

Capcom is definitely not going to replace the Saiban/Attorney series on its "List of Things To Do" because they're guaranteed a successful turnout every time a game is released, thanks to its supportive fanbase. At the worst, it'll be pushed to the end of the queue and stay there for a long time, but it will never be completely abandoned; assuming the majority of fans genuinely care.
