Ergh, how many times can a video game company try and market the same thing but with an extra addition?

Sounds interesting. Personally, I wouldn't like 3D Gyakuten Saiban. That would be odd but think of all the possibilities, especially with a 3D Nusumi/Little Thief...

What Tap said. It sounds cool but I'm not sure how AA3D would work.

Thanks for the info, JapaneseGIRL.

Nintendo obviously can't stop printing money. And to think I was semi-tempted to replace my DS-Phat since one of the hinges broke. I loved that thing since it can fit my oversized fingers

Dear Nintendo,

Please stop releasing a new DS every damn year. Nobody is going to buy your handhelds if they're just going to be made obsolete in a matter of months.

Pft. This is nothing new. Remember the Gameboy? The Gameboy Pocket? The GameBoy Color? The Super GameBoy? Then we had the GameBoy Advance, The GameBoy Advance SP, The GameBoy Advance Mini, The GameBoy Advance Player.

Now we've got the DS, DS Lite, DSi, DS XL; Honestly, if nothing else, the creation of the XL marks the end of the DS's life span. I believe the 3DS marks the next itineration of Nintendo Handhelds.

You guys are made of pure win! XDD

EDIT: I can't help but say that the new technology sounds fascinating. But as mentioned, it's for 3D games, so I hope they don't think of turning AA into one just because it's a prospective console. In fact, I think it wasn't such a good idea to put it on the Wii. I think the NDS is still best so you can have easy access with an interactive interface.

Meh...This sounds pretty interesting and cool, but I just cant imagine all DS styled games go into 3D...
As for GS/AA serie, I fear 3D might ruin them... The change in Jenji was an OK and it works, but I really think that makingsomekinda 3D Attorney would just ruin it...
Still, this is quite exciting though.

I haven't bought DSlite or i, so I'm still running with the original DS model here...
Maybe it could be time to update when this coes into Europe?
Well...Let's see what games it will have first, then let's talk this some more....

But right now; Not interested

The DS is one of the best systems Nintendo has had in quite some time. Sorry, but it's going to be a while before I'm interested in anything new handheld wise.

What exactly does "3D" mean? Like, the DS was capable of 3D (just not very well) inside the screen. Does this mean that it will be projected outside, or what?

Well, I suppose it doesn't matter if we get another Ace Attorney. But I say Ace Attorney should stick with 2D, first person POV. Otherwise, considering how much effort Nintendo has been putting into hardware recently, we may be getting a monstrosity like Street Fighter EX or something.... :payne:

I won't lie. I wouldn't mind a massive 3D Edgeworth finger coming out at me.

That said, I kind of wish they would hold off on this new DS for another year. DSi-backwards compatible? Yeah, let's try to have some actual DSi-exclusive games first. (Yes, I'm sure some exist, but nothing that interests me enough and/or can be played over WPA2)

Honestly, I hope Capcom does look into continuing AA on the new hand-held. They could use all the new features to give the series a new flavor.
Also...

I'm really interested in this new console, and I'm really looking forward to hearing more about it.
I wouldn't be surprised if Capcom released GS5/GK2 on the 3DS, and I'm pretty sure that if they did, they would make the most of the console (all its features, etc...), just like they did with the DS.

As for the console itself, it really looks like a brand new system, not a mere 'update' of the DS (lite).

New handheld from Nintendo, eh? I'm definitely interested.

However, I have to say I'm very surprised they're announcing this already. The DS hasn't shown any signs of slowing down and there are still great games coming out for it, so why all ready to move on?

Oh well, I'm still eager to hear more.

This video shows a little bit of what the 3D is going to be like.

It actually looks pretty awesome. Though I'm gonna wait until E3 before I decide to buy one...

That video is pretty cool, but what if you had people watching you play? It would detect more than one head, not sure how that will work.

But yes, it feels like they are gonna release too early. But I'm still interested on this, I'm going to keep a look-out for this.

They can always release AA games to play as normal DS games. there's also the WiiWare option. With enough publicity, they can draw attention to WiiWare AA.

At first I thought this was actually a new handheld. It'll just be a DSi with a better camera that uses head-tracking softly and such, and maybe some touches to the graphics chip.

Remember when Reggie said that adding HD to Wii wouldn't be a good idea for a whole new system? Well, same here, but with portable.

Nintendo is known for its innovative systems, but just when they want to do them. The jump from GameCube to Wii and the jump from GBA to DS were huge innovations: the DS' formal successor will be a whole new idea, not just a DS with a couple of fancy new graphical features.

tl;dr I don't see the point of a 3DS, and I don't see how this can sell well. At least the DSi introduced DSi Shop/DSiWare, but this...

I guess they're confident their take on 3D will be popular with people. Besides, who can say no to a joystick, internal rumble, and "improved wireless communication speed and battery life" (even if these features are unconfirmed)?

the graphics chip is rumored to be as powerful as a 360.. if the graphics difference between the dsi and the 3ds isnt enough to sway you.. nothing will...

let the coffee at your face, von karma whip and massive 3d fingers of objection in high quality begin!

use the 3d to tilt and turn around objects to find clues!

hey, its backwards compatible, so why complain about it.. the XL as nintendo said themselves isnt meant for everyone.. the dsi original was the last true variation of the system for mainstream sales.. and the 3DS is the successor to the DS Line, and not another redo of the ds system

E3 is about to get that much more interesting...

I think they're just trying to catch the rising 3D wave while they can (or at least before the novelty dies like in the '60s). Since Avatar there's been a market for more 3D stuff and since Sony's been working on releasing 3D compatible TVs/PS3 upgrades for the compatible TVs it makes since from a business view.

That said, I'll probably pass. I like my DS lite well enough.

But seriously, if this were true, it wouldn't be a 3DS, it would be a whole new DS, or a whole new succesor to the DS.
It doesn't take a lot of thought to realize it.

I read that, but unless it has considerable new features and brand new hardware, it's an "expansion", just like the DSi. Besides, that's the only source that I know is calling it a successor. It's called "reading between lines", and, believe it or not, it's not hard at all.

dont kill me for saying this but to me it sounds like another gimmick, but if it were to be re-designed, and not called another thing with DS on it, and it looked different, that would be okay. I mean, if it was an entirely new handheld, that would be cooler.

and WHY must evryone use 3-D? It's like the best thing since sliced bread or something now, its a tiny bit ridiculous. Plus it hurts my eyes sometimes.

I really don't think we have enough info right now to determine if it's a new console or an expansion... I mean, what if it has an analog stick, rumble, and the graphics of the 360? Or it might just have those 3D graphics, and they could be really bad. We just don't know yet.

Anyway, that 3D actually seems pretty cool to me, and I think it could work really well in visual novel/adventure games (if implemented right, of course :garyuu: )

After seeing that video, I find that AA has not much need to go on 3DS. It's a text-based game from first-/third-person view, and a 3D environment won't be too significant. This would be interesting on AAI, I guess, since you're actually moving around in a room as a mini-sprite. I think this is best for adventure and fighting games.
