After a six-month drought, we're finally getting new news. Famitsu has a new AA5 article, showcasing Apollo. He’s described as having bandages over his right arm and eye, and a new jacket over one shoulder.

Details as they come in.

Unfortunately, these scans don't really give us any info, just visuals.

UPDATE 2: The main site is updated as well with profiles for Apollo and Barashima (the bomb squad member from the TGS trailer.) Unfortunately, there's no shots of Apollo in-game, and the site isn't telling us anything about his story (though it does wonder if his jacket has any meaning). Looks like Capcom's playing their cards close to their chest for the moment.

I think you get the idea. I really want to know what his role is going to be, but it's great to know he's going to be in the game at all.

I think there's a decent chance, yeah. I hope they didn't change his character design too much.

My first thought was that he was redesigned to be a prosecutor. I know this sounds weird, but it sounds like he's got an eyepatch (like some villain) and his bracelet would be covered with the bandages.

Also, take a look at that silhouette at the end of the TGS trailer. If you notice, it's most likely Apollo because of that object on the right, which is most likely Apollo's new jacket.

Oh man, no! My favourite character!
*sigh* I hope for Capcom that It didn't ruined Apollo.
Anyway, I think in this story Apollo is hitted due to explosion in courtroom. This may be a way.
And I still think He could be the new prosecutor (also if speaking legally is very hard).
Maybe He wants revenge of Phoenix. I don't know.

If that is the case, it might explain why Apollo's not the one at Wright & Co. taking cases at present. This could also indirectly support the theory that Apollo is indeed the character Phoenix obliquely referred to as being out "looking for someone" or something like that (can't remember exactly) during his phone conversation we saw from the pics of one of the game's anime cut-scenes.

Yeah, this definitely confirms he was the defense attorney in the courtroom bombing. It was also the courtroom they used in AA4, wasn't it?

OMG This is exciting!

Apollo's back!

And I never got to use my ancient aliens image I had made for when a small, unfocused image of apollo would have undoubtedly shown up. Oh what the hell, I'm throwing it up anyway!

Hmm. My takeaway is that with the bandage over one of his eyes, he's lost his depth 'perception'. If they go out of their way to cripple his trademark ability, I'd like to guess that Polly is a guest attorney, but the perceive system does not return.

Also, kinda funny that he looks like a pirate now, and Polly is a common name for a pirate's pet.

This is awesome. Probably the best GS5 news I've seen.

For the first time my concerns have been allayed about seeing any old characters (particularly from the Apollo era). For once I feel comfortable that they know what they're doing.

Wow, he looks pissed (or maybe just determined) in that image!

When Bolt Storm said he had a new jacket I was worried, but it's kind of amusing to me that he's wearing this big, conspicuous jacket over his old suit.

I feel like the jacket denotes some kind of new official capacity, but I hope that's not the case. Stick with defense, Polly! :odoroki:

On that note, I'd be very surprised if Apollo isn't the defense attorney in at least one of the game's cases (maybe the last one). They know perfectly well a lot of people love him too, so I can't believe they'd bother to include him just to have him hover around the periphery.

I cannot say how happy these news make me. This could mean Apollo is going to be a central figure in GS5. Like this, GS4 isn't demoted to just "A side chapter", but effectively becomes "Ace Attorney: Interlude" the Story that sets up for the events of GS5.

Seriously, that's as what AA:AJ works best anyway. The game as a standalone was too incomplete. By making it the vital backstory behind what happens in GS5, the game's own level of "completion" is retroactively boosted in my opinion. Now I just hope they don't screw this up.

Well, I must say this new look for Apollo is actually pretty cool; it's new, but not different enough to be too severe a change. I wonder where he got the coat from though, since it doesn't seem to be modelled after his regular fashion style. If anything, it looks like maybe someone saw he was injured and gave him their coat to keep him safe. Probably also why he's wearing it over his shoulders, aside from rule of cool.

I may be mistaken, but didn't the demo from TGS say the courtroom was empty and/or no one was actually hurt from the bombing?

That's an interesting take on this. I could see that being the case, but then again they had Pheonix use the Magatama during the "flashbacks" in 4-4, so they could go either way. Perhaps if Apollo subs for Pheonix later in the game, part of his case will be overcoming the inability to use his eye and slowly regain the ability to use the percieve system.


Also, I want to thank Bolt Storm for representing us on NeoGAF, good to know we have a voice over there.

It said there was nobody killed, however, nothing about injuries was said so far. The courtroom wasn't empty; if I understood it right, somebody just evacuated the entire room before anyone could be killed. However, Shinobu's testimony confirms that people were still there to fall victim to injuries due to falling debris, etc, thus injured Apollo is not strange at all.

In all seriousness though, I'm glad that he wasn't forgotten and shoved aside.

The coat makes him look cool, but at the same time, it totally clashes in colour with his outfit.

Glad to finally see some news about the game. He's giving off a very prosecutor vibe from that stance, but we'll see how it turns out. We've already had our role of "Defense attorney turns to prosecution after fatal accident" :godot:

Hey Guys, look the mysterious shape on TGS 2012.
If you look carefully, his left arm has an unnatural pose. This because of the jacket on the shoulders.
And there is a part of the shape that seems to have a scarf (on right of the shape).
indeed, is a part of bandage.

Hey lets not get ahead of ourselves, there's no guarantee yet the silouhette character is a prosecutor or that it's Apollo like some folks say he might've borrowed the Jacket and things or it could be another character who Apollo is connected to in someway.

Not that Prosecutors are all bad guys but I think the silhouette looks too different outside the jacket, especially the hair.

Think you're totally jumping the gun on this.
