In a Capcom-Unity thread titled "Capcom, shouldn't you have asked us before making Dual Destinies eShop exclusive?", Capcom employee Chris had this to say in reply to the topic's title:

Chris @ CapcomUnity wrote:
Before I start, I wanted to thank you guys for sharing your thoughts in such a courteous, mature way. That's the kind of thing that makes our day!

Okay, so I believe the original question was "Why didn't Capcom ask fans before releasing Dual Destinies digitally?" I certainly hope you didn't feel mislead in any way by filling out that survey. As surveys are, they’re a means to get opinions for various possible situations and temperature check on how people are feeling about a specific topic.

The purpose of the survey in regards to Dual Destinies specifically was to see if fans would consider purchasing digitally as a possible option. An option that would eventually mean that Capcom would be able to expedite a Western release as soon as possible. As Sven also related in the past, we desperately wanted to avoid another situation of fans waiting an eternity for a US/EU release, or worse, not getting a game at all.

Your thoughts and feedback are crucial to what we do here and held at a super high priority, but as you can see by the folks who chimed in within this very thread, there are still many additional (usually the unglamorous and “businessy”) layers to consider when releasing a game.

To put it another way, the voices of Capcom fans, here on Unity or elsewhere, are INCREDIBLY important. We most certainly do take deep consideration of what we hear from fans. Your feedback is what often helps us determine what we look into. We also ask you to understand that there are a ton of factors we consider, we do take your feedback very seriously, and do our best to combine all of these factors into the decisions we ultimately make.

While we can understand some of you may have reservations about a digital version, again we can’t reiterate enough how hard we are working hard to bring this title to the west as soon as possible. And personal platform preferences aside, digital is a really good place for Phoenix to be and we hope to be able to prove that to you with some good news very soon.

Notice this last bit:

Chris @ CapcomUnity wrote:

So... Digital-only is a great home for Ace Attorney, and Capcom can prove it? That has to mean one of these:
A) Release date is very close in the future
B) Price is quite lower than that a retail title
C) Both of the above!

In any case, he said "good" news, "very soon". We'll keep you folks updated!

And because sadly there's always a sour note when talking about Dual Destinies' digital release, check this comment from a "fan". At least Chris handed it well.

These seem like great news! well, to me, at least. Customs here usually double the price, and plus we're getting it quicker.

Huh. Interesting tidbit here. Hopefully this means a lot lower for a price?

I wonder just how much lower than a normal MSRP it will be though. Since it's out in Japan and they're wanting to keep it a narrow time frame between releases "soon" actually probably will be soon as far as this news. I just hope they put to bed the physical release happening or not, because more than not getting one at all I just hate being strung along on the issue.

I love it when companies acknowledge the fans. Dunno why, it's a nice personal touch. I would hope that it's regarding the release date. Like i've said before, Eshiro told us that the English localisation was being developed alongside the Japanese version, so i will expect the release date to be... August 29th or September 5th! BA BAM~

One can dream, fellow enthusiasts. :pearly:

Fall starts Sept. 22nd, but at least where I live when September starts Falls starts. So August 29th is early... but you're right, we might as well dream about it.

The game is at most going to be $35. The very most.

....Oh gosh, VERY good news? I am really excited now. :will:

It's also great to see someone from Capcom respond! Maybe Chris will replace Sven!

Well, in the UK the general feel is that Autumn starts in September, no one thinks of it as summer haha. But it's a fair point. It is being advertised as Autumn 2013 in the PEGI trailers, but i thought it may be early due to Chris saying there is some good news and such.

Keep dreams alive man, don't let them slip away.

Regarding price, i would say £25/£29.99 at the most, with DLC being about £0.69 or £1. :hobohodo:

It's nice how Chris and Sven are technically both Chris :snackood:

Technicalities aside, I think the general public consensus would be September is Fall and December is Winter. Snackoo me if I'm wrong. At any rate, this is exciting~! I'm going to be optimistic and hope for "C) Both of the above" here. Cheaper = less objection from my parents when I decide to buy a physical release in addition to my digital if it comes out :edgy: And the sooner DD's released, the less likely it is for 3DSes to suddenly drop enough in retail value to render my purchase of a pink ( :fire: ) DS moot point!
So I finally grew a brain and remembered to give myself a signature... Whoopee.

I think August and maybe even September is a bit optimistic, but it's true the game was developed and translated simultaneously for a change. They've even got the localization team credited in the credits of the Japanese version (but before anyone asks, no, they don't credit the English voice cast.)

Do know for a fact that the cutscenes will get dubbed? I may be paranoid, but you'd think we'll get to see something by now.. Plus the demo version cut it out. Though they hired Sam Riegel, who's done more then a simple "Objection" for umvc3.

I think it would be weird seeing the characters speak in English but suddenly speak Japanese in the anime cutscenes. So I'm very sure the anime cutscenes are dubbed.

To be fair, English dubs in video games are often uncredited. This happened in VLR, for example.

Well... They've traditionally been credited in the AA series though... So, one would presume that they would credit them in GS5.

The demo version cut it out because that is how all of Japanese public appearance demos were, they never had the cut scene at the beginning, only the eShop demo did. So i am pretty sure they will dub the anime scenes. :hotti:

Yeah though it's been said Capcom hired professional voice actors? The development team provided (volunteered?) their voices for previous games. They'll credit them in the localized release?

It sure surprised me when the name "Janet Tsu" showed up in Japanese katakana. I only saw her name listed in charge of localization, but it proves that the game is on its way to the west. (The other clue being that Eshiro is actively involved in localization efforts anyway.)

Remind me, Bolt: did Edgeworth have different voice actors for his objections? I swear it changed over the course of how many times I heard it; not to mention all those names that followed Takemoto Eiji.

There is usually one once a month, so the August Nintendo direct is coming up soon. Or will they just announce it on their own?

I'm guessing that it'll cost around $20. I think that would be a good price, but that's just my opinion.

I just wish I had a 3DS, though. That new black 3DS XL looks pretty sexy though. :godot:

What? We haven't even heard from Sven in the last weeks.

Sounds way too cheap. It is still a full game and I doubt they go below 30$/€. 50% off the usual retail price would be a steal.

Visual novels don't need large budgets. It's pretty clear though that DD has a larger one because of the anime cutscenes and higher quality sounding music. The production values are better than the previous games, but that's just because it's the 3DS compared to the original DS.

I'd really rather wait until the game for those. And they really aren't very good news.
But it's good to try and think of any other ideas, because the 2 proposed in this topic may not happen...
VERY good news would be PL vs AA localization news!

There's pretty much no chance that the "very good" news would be about anything other than AA:DD, considering the context.

Also remember, PL vs. AA is in Level5's court, not Capcom's. I'd be very surprised if they didn't say anything about that before the holidays, but Level5 should come out with news in due time.
