The episode begins with an animated scene showing La Quantos, where the case takes place. A shot rings out, and several people find Ryuunosuke standing over the body of the victim, John Watson.

In the defendant's lobby, Ryuunosuke is at a loss for words. Asougi arrives to serve as his defense, and Ryuunosuke reflects on how the day of the crime Asougi had been celebrating getting to go to England. Shortly thereafter Susato and a professor, Yuujin Mikotoba, arrive. Yuujin has Susato take Asougi to speak with the judge, then addresses Ryuunosuke: if Asougi takes on Ryuunosuke's defense and loses, he won't be able to go to England after all.

When the trial begins, the judge asks who will take charge of the defense, and Ryuunosuke steps in to represent himself, not wanting to run the risk of Asougi losing his chance to visit England. The judge asks him a few questions to ascertain he's ready: the victim's name and his cause of death. The victim is John H. Watson, an English professor who's been teaching at Teito Yuumei University for the past three years. The murder of a foreign national by his students runs the risk of creating an international scandal, and so a swift verdict is being sought. The cause of death is gunshot at short range.

The prosecutor, Taketsuchi Auchi, calls the restaurant's waiter, Satoru Hosonaga, to the stand. Hosonaga, who has a cough bad enough he occasionally bleeds from the mouth, claims Ryuunosuke and the victim were alone. Ryuunosuke remembers it differently - there was a woman sitting with Watson! But Hosonaga doubles down, and Ryuunosuke has no way to disprove him.

Auchi asks Ryuunosuke to confess - he'll have a lighter sentence if so, and if he refuses Auchi will call decisive witnesses. Ryuunosuke isn't sure what to do, but Asougi insists the defense has the duty to fight to the bitter end for the defendant. With a finger-point and a shout, he states Ryuunosuke is innocent and demands the trial continue. Uzukumaru and Sonohigurashi are called to the stand, and the demo ends.

Those last two were:

The verb used for Jezail was 入廷, so they're a person, not an object. So that suggests Jezail is the woman we've seen who's yet to be named, and who "vanished" from Hosonaga's testimony about who was sitting with Watson.

Here's the thing: in the original Holmes stories, Watson was wounded by a bullet shot from a Jezail rifle. Sounds like we have our killer...!

They're in a restaurant and one of the witnesses happened to miss out on seeing the other person at the scene. As long as there's no reenactment of the crime, I'm good. Still, unless Hosonaga really isn't lying or hiding info, I'm going to suspect him as an accomplice. The Gatewater bellboy is suspicious in the funny way, but this guy... he just seems suspicious in the classic way.

*spittake* The victim's name is John Watson?!
And Hosonaga, the waiter, is consumptive? I find that more suspicious than Jezail!

Seeing that woman sit across from Watson, pretty certain I've spoiled the first culprit for myself. D'OH! Maybe it'll be painfully obvious in classic Frank Sahwit first case fashion, maybe it's not her, but all the signs point to yes and I kind of want to kick myself for watching too much of it, lol.


That said guess I'll switch my hype to anticipating what their breakdown will be (and whether or not things will be voiced PLvsAA style).
