IMO, I'm hoping it will, or this would be a not-so-nice oversight on Capcom's part.
But the probabilities of that happening are slim.. Since I don't see how they could tie in Franziska, but I'm just imagining things :)

Doing so would mean recapping Maya's history from the time Phoenix lost his badge. That means taking away time from Apollo and making room for Phoenix Wright. So much for "Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney".

Well. I think the possibility of Franzy showing up with that card at any time is possible, provided there was another reason for her to make a return. As Croik said, she didn't give it to him before. However, I will disagree with her about Franzy not having the card; this is more of a personal opinion though as I picture Franzy to be the type of person who keeps all insignificant shit around because it might be important evidence or whatnot later. My dad is a paranoid spaz and he keeps items from 8 years ago that might be considered evidence, so why wouldn't anyone else? It's a retarded personal claim of mine, but it's a possibility.
Of course that can go on the flip side too, but I was just throwing in some two cents. Gimme a break. XD

The only way I could justify it without actually knowing psychological theory is if she developed an obsession with facing Phoenix Wright, in order to test herself and define her being; he being the one who defeated Edgeworth (her role model) and being an effective paragon of legal defense in her mind. Win or lose, it'll function as a mental affirmation of her status: win, and she's surpassed him and proven herself, while losing will affirm that she needs to try again to win. If this were the case, she might develop an obsessive desire to face him, to the point of tracking him and attempting to get him into positions where she could challenge him.
Of course, this assumes that she's THAT dependent on him for definition. That's a bit of a stretch; while she has issues (the whip-fetish, the sibling rivalry and perfectionism, and possibly suppressed Daddy issues), I don't think Phoenix is THAT prominent in her neurosis (Edgeworth, maybe). Still, it would be pretty freaking cool to me.
I agree, though, that some more characters need to return, besides the purported Larry cameo in AJ (Gumshoe and Franzy, Viola and Basil, dammit!).

The reason people say it's a daughter is (as far as I can tell) because of the GS2 fanbook, which apparently confirms that Franziska has an older sister who is married. If it says anything else about it, it's not on CR's character pages for Manfred or Franziska.

You're right - there is no other mention of Franziska's older sister than what is in the GS2 fanbook, and she is not mentioned in the games. My personal opinion is that the writers simply screwed up. Franziska did not exist as a character when they were writing the first game (this is stated by the creator) and so when Karma made the comment about his granddaughter, no one knew at the time that it would eventually contradict Franziska's only being 18. Chances are that after GS2 came out, some fan wrote in asking about the granddaughter comment, and the writers had no choice but to fill in, "Uh... he had another daughter!!" just for the sake of supplying an answer. At least, that's what makes the most sense to me.
I really hope no more von Karma's show up in the series. Haven't we had enough??

That makes sense. Particularly so, since there is at least one other instance of blatant retcons, such as 'Rise from the Ashes' (Lana's gender change, anyone?).

I don't think it's too overdone; we had one at the end of GS1 and another in the other two games; one or two more would probably be alright. I'd draw the line at that, though.
It also depends if they decide to have any allusion to Phoenix's past in the next game, or if they start creating and developing their own plotlines with Apollo and the other new characters. I could see them going either way, but it might be nice if Apollo had more development than just "Phoenix's plot bitch".
