What new forensic sciencey things could Ema throw at us in the next game?

Hadwriting analysis?
DNA checking?

Post your ideas :sassy:

Those sound fun
what about more luminol testing so it like 1-5 or something like that

Yeah, I'd definitely like more luminol testing.
And they shouldn't just have a thing once and then never use it again... the touch screen was really underutilized, I thought.
They should build upon... do luminol in 5-2... and then do footprinting and luminol in 5-3... and maybe handwriting analysis or something and footprinting and luminol in 5-4... and (*crosses fingers*) all of those and something else in 5-5.
Or even more than that. :yuusaku:
I was kind of disappointed... they definitely didn't use the touch screen enough for me...

Agreed.

How the hell would DNA work, I wonder?

I figured out a way of doing handwriting, It's going in my fangame...

Hmm.. you could have to collect the sample... and then... they could be tangled together... and you have to figure out how to untangle them and then it could create the DNA thing... and then you could match it up like you match up fingerprints?

PEE IN A CUP!!
Maybe DNA could work like fingerprinting: find a good DNA and match it to DNA on record.

Also, inspired by the shout above, Drug testing. Say cocaine a mysterious substance is found at a crime scene, and you have to test someones blood or something to find out if it was in there. Just an idea.

I think fingerprint testing should make a bigger return. It was under-used in AJ.

I was thinking of the possibility of blood tests. For example, we could compare a sample of the victim's blood and the murder weapon, to be sure if the murder weapon's blood and the sample would match or no.(And if they don't match, make everyone wonder about what was going on.)

you know I wish in AJ that they had let you keep the scientific stuff throughout the cases instead of forensics-reject Ema letting you do it.

I'd love to see handwriting analysis, as well as more fingerprinting.

If they could figure out a way to use some form of toxicology, I'd be pleased. Maybe a suspect is poisoned, and you have to figure out how they ingested the poison. I guess you'd have to test the victim's blood first, to determine the type of poison. Then you'd have to test various substances for traces of the poison. Or something like that. Some sort of matching minigame, perhaps?

I would like the fingerprint testing to come back in a major way. Maybe you could test all of your evidence in the court record (there would probably be a witty comment when Polly tests his badge).
Like someone said before, Ema should be cut out of the procedure and Polly could carry all the stuff around with him so that he can test for blood, fingerprints, shoeprints and DNA anywhere and not just where Ema is.
I also kind of liked that x-ray thing with the books and lottery cards in the last case, I would like that to return.
If this did happen, Ema would just be another Gumshoe who just does her police work.

I could see it in the style of 24: The Game. The first stage would be figuring out where the account is located. So you'd have a map of the world and all these little dots of the likely location. You hold down the location with the stylus and trace it to your location in the shortest way possible, because the signal will follow the line. When you find it, then you have to discover the password. There'll be a nine digit password with the characters jumbled up. You have to switch them around to find it. Then you can look around and see what you can find.

Handwriting Analysis sounds like lots of fun. So does DNA Analysis.

For other ideas: it could expand on recreating the crime scene. First you do a luminol test. You find the blood. But then you need to look at the blood spatters to find where the blood came from, from what angle etc. etc. etc. And using this, Ema can walk you through recreating the crime scene. And you can do a more thorough test later, and etc.

Blood Testing is good too. :)

the cool way to use the touch screen would be a drawing tool. Two uses I can think of is recreation of a crime scene, like drawing the crime scene, where everybody stood,etc... The other one is a photo-fit tool, like with details given by the witness(es), you would draw a portrait of the murderer, and if you're a good drawer (wich is hard on a dual-screen) it would give you a good advantage in the investigation.

Handwriting and DNA analysis sound fun. I'd like blood tests where you have to match it to someones blood on file.

GS4 was a bit too gimmicky as we were just told what to do and weren't able to make mistakes. I hope none of those scientific experiments reappear in GS5.

Many, many more luminol and fingerprinting. If you don't have enough science, Dr.Insano will kill you! WITH SCIENCE!
Also handwriting, DNA, and blood tests would be cool.

Trauma Center is rated T, if I remember correctly. :grossburg:

I still wouldn't want that in the game for Squick purposes. (Yes, I do like Trauma Center, but in that game everyone is alive and your gallanty saving them, as opposed to autopsies where you cut them open, feel around and stuff. Ick.)

What I do want to see is matching handwriting.

I figured they didn't use the touch capabilities of the DS very well. I'd like to see a lot more use of it...scientifically.

Some handwriting analysis would be good. I'm all for that. There will most likely be some more luminol testing too.

Some stuff that could be done with a microscope:

Rifling marks on bullets. Say for example, a case presents you with more than one of the same gun. Apollo would of course have access to a ballistics chamber where he could test-fire both weapons to get bullet samples, with which he could then use Ema's microscope to compare the rifling marks on the test bullet versus the bullet from evidence.

Hair and fabric samples. This is going to sound completely forensics-nut, but Locarde's Principle of Evidence Cross-Transferal states that if two objects come in contact with each other, small portions of each object will somehow become embedded in each other. So let's say two people with opposite-colored sweaters run into each other. On the blue sweatered person, you might find some red threads and lint from the red sweatered guy that ran into him while trying to escape, and vice-versa.

Tool marks, particularly for forced-entry scenarios. Figure out what kind of tool was used to pry open a door (claw hammer, crowbar, screwdriver?), and by extension, the exact object used (the difference between two claw hammers might not seem obvious at first, but every tool ends up having its own unique markings on it after a while...)

I'd also love to see some more modern tricks - like a hard drive or storage device that its owner attempted to wipe, a burned disc that was smashed, perhaps the IP access logs from a local wireless network? Is that getting too geeky?
