Too bad Rise from the Ashes is taken. Seriously, I don't know why they named that case with that name on the first place. Even when they knew Phoenix was going to have an impeding fall and a glorious return was always a possibility.

Maybe they are really going with 3D puns. Or something about the jurist system.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney is definitely not the worst game title out there. It's way more marketable than Turnabout Trial. Titles like Virtue's Last Reward or Shin Megami Tensei are pretty weird when you first hear them.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great title for an anime-style video game.
But using Ace Attorney on a TV show featuring famous actors or something would sound a little weird. I think Turnabout would be a much better title than Ace Attorney.
Because of the semi-humorous tone of the topic, I threw out "TURNABOUT" in all capitols as a joke-like name based on my opinion regarding an adaptation's name.
(Also, I think Turnabout Trial would be worse than Ace Attorney. I think only "turnabout" alone has a chance of working if they ever did adapt anything.)

I think Phoenix Wright would be great for a TV show name on the vein of Perry Mason (maybe the adaptation team openly referenced the show), but I get that Turnabout whould be a better name for a serious Lawyer drama like Damages.
-------
I think that maybe they will choose a dark name, because of the darker tone of the game.

This way we guarantee Harrison Ford will do Phoenix's voice over. Even though he'll hate it and Ridley Scott will take it out in the director's cut.

Let's get in on the Oscar season and make some more cash, Capcom!

From the people that brought you "ARGO" bring you "APOLLO".
The Protagonist Transition was fake. The emotional problems were real.

From the people that brought you "SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK" bring you "DETECTIVE GUMSHOE'S CHECKBOOK".

Post subject:  Gyakuten Saiban 5 English Title? Thoughts?

First off, I'd like to apologize if there's a similar topic lingering around the forums created before mine. I tried searching but I didn't see any (maybe I didn't search enough?) so yeah, I'm sorry. Also if I'm posting in the wrong section, I'm not sure, I'm kinda new here and please just move this thingie, thanks!

Let's cut to the chase. Since you can use both Apollo and Phoenix... would this game be called an Apollo Justice game or a Phoenix Wright game? I mean, in Japan, I think they only add numbers at the end (e.g. Gyakuten Saiban 4), though in the States/other parts of the world (afaik), it's something like Main Lawyer: Not So Punny Title? I know this is a trivial matter, but I'm just legitimately curious.

My personal opinion: it's a PW game.

Going ahead and merging this into the existing topic. :minuki:

Also, I'm pretty sure it'll be marketed as "Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: {subtitle}"; he's still the star of the game, after all. T&T wasn't "Phoenix Wright, Mia Fey: Ace Attorneys".

You mean "Phoenix Wright, Mia Fey, & Miles Edgeworth: Ace Attorneys".

Speaking of which, I'll have a silly guess, or a few.

"Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney ~ Reprise and Retribution"
"Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney ~ Pursuit of Justice" :yogi:
"Phoenix Wright: Advent Attorney"
"Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney ~ Unlimited Corners"
"Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney ~ The Animated Series"
"Artemis Answer: Ace Attorney ~ Ad Litem" :redd:

No really, If Kokone Kidzuki is going to be localized, let her last name be as stupidly punny as with her legal cohorts. Nothing fancy required. Not to mention that the last time someone with the initials K.K. was localized, she became "Adrian Andrews"...

Ooh, this one's good too: "Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney ~ Road to Redemption"

Judging from the number of playable attorneys and the addition of a new lawyer, they should call the game "Ace Attorneys" with the 5 stylized as an S (or vice versa, whatever)

Yeah this touches on what I've been thinking now.

If it is going indeed involve both Apollo and Phoenix in relative equality then dubbing it "Phoenix Wright" or "Apollo Justice" doesn't seem to make much sense.

It'd make even less sense if Kokonoe gets a case to herself too.

I think from a "story" standpoint that might make sense, but business-wise I think it would be a big mistake not to name this game "Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: The Newest Vague Subtitle they can think of". Anyone I talk to about AA who isn't a hardcore fan or member of this site almost always refers to GS5 as Phoenix Wright 5, or that they just started replaying a "Phoenix Wright game", even when that game is actually Apollo Justice of AAI. The brand was always strongest in the U.S. when the games were being released under Phoenix's name, and if PLvsAA gets localized (I would have said when before Layton 6 localization was announced, but now I'm very worried actually) I'm sure they will localize the title to "Professor Layton vs Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney" so that might factor in too.

I was searching through this thread to see if anyone had guessed the just-announced official title, "Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies". Noone did, we didn't even get close.

Funny how Capcom decided to *kinda* play on the 3D pun, but didn't.

Also the game is eShop-exclusive wat wat wat wat wat wat

I'm still buying it day one.

How DID they play the 3D pun? There's no 3rd D.

I was pretty sure someone had Dual Strike here.

I have to admit, i don't get "Dual Destinies"...I guess it could be a reference to the fact that you play as Apollo and Phoenix, but you could play multiple lawyers in the other games too. Like I said in another topic, usually the game title has to do with legal related terminology. I'm hoping its a reference to some plot element or something and not just a reference to the gameplay/multiple protagonists.

Nope, it's a double meaning for Dark Day of Law where:

Spoiler: Joke theory
The Dual Destiny subtitle would make sense since it turns out that Apollo is from an alternate universe where Athena and Jin comes from and they try to inform him this in order to save both of their universes through the power of law by dimension hopping during the Dark Day of Law.

Thalassa's son is actually that guy who has the same bracelet as Apollo ns one of the Case 2 screenshots.

On a serious note though, I wonder if the subtitle is more significant than what people may think.

Maybe it has something to do with Jin. He's a jailbird of fate (pun intended), but still is allowed to prosecute during his prison sentence. (Thinking about it, what if his localized name will have something about caged birds...)

Or maybe my crack theory about Koko Athena having a multiple-personality disorder is being realized. Suddenly, she becomes so much more interesting.

That's why I said *kinda*. They knew we were expecting a 3D pun, so we considered it a possibility that they'd use a triple-D title. They almost did that, using a double-D title.
