I think Phoenix (and Edgeworth) are married to their work. If the series had ended with the first trilogy, I think you could safely assume that he eventually married Iris, but with this "next generation"/"sins of the fathers" angle they went to in the next three games, the focus seems to be more on Phoenix's contribution to the future, not on his own personal happy ending.

What I'd like to see is Nick and Edgeworth jointly founding a safe house or small academy for promising young people in hard times. Phoenix would take the ones with the potential to be defense attorneys under his wing; Edgeworth would take the potential prosecutors; those who could make it in law enforcement would be set up as interns in the police department, and they'd use their network of contacts to find places for the ones whose talents were elsewhere.

They'd call anyone they helped their "kids," and mentor the ones who seems most promising, and meet up occasionally to compare notes. And there'd be some friendly one-ups-manship, like whose kid was about to take his first case, or which one got a better score on the Bar. And if they each had a kid in the same trial, they'd go into the lobby afterward and talk about how it went, and what else they could have done. And then they'd all go out for noodles afterward.

It would be in character for both of them, and rather sweet too.

Belongs with Iris. As for Edgeworth, he can't marry Nick because he needs to be faithful to Wendy Oldbag

Well, Edgeworth being married to the job is pretty much the same as him not being with any other woman... but I strongly suspect the Oldbag has already croaked at this point.

Don't be silly. Oldbag is as old as time. She can freakin' time travel in that one promo court skit.

But I get the feeling when SoJ comes out, the shipping community will crash.

Don't worry, Oldbag's only in 2D; she couldn't possibly pleasure Edgeworth even if she wanted to.

Don't be like that, guys. Edgeworth seriously needs a lesson in romance. Maybe the judge can help. He seems to know a lot.
For the record, I wasn't talking about Oldbag when I said the shipping community would crash, but Capcom may just drop the biggest title joke in the series.

But it's spoilers. D:

Well, I'll give a hint: it's about the "ace" in "ace attorney". Now that I've played through the DLC case and explored some optional dialogue, I can't help but wonder if Capcom was going for something more to that title. It's just my suspicions, though.

Okay, okay.
Spoiler: DLC, non-plot related
While replaying through the DLC case, I discovered a dialogue when chatting away with Edgeworth during the first day of investigations. I present him the brochure for the Flying Chapel and he comes to talk about the romantic setting. This bothers Phoenix, who asks him why he of all people would be interested in romance.

"Don't tell me... are you actually thinking about marriage!?"
"...What led you to that wild assumption? No, I have no such plans. And you?"
"Eh... I don't either." (I figured he wouldn't... not that any of this has to do with the case.)

Now, I wouldn't think this would be enough to "crash" the shipping community, but later in court (on another day) when the subject of love is brought up, Edgeworth seems rather staunch about staying single, to just about everyone's disappointment. Even Maya seems to pity him, while Nick has no comment.

Though, I suppose it can still be argued that Edgeworth just isn't "being true to himself", but that's going down another route I'd rather not.

Ron and Dessie are not main characters, and Larry and his off-screen girlfriends do not run the plot of the game. Romance doesn't run this game, nor is it treated like the ultimate reward and/or the most important thing in life, like in a lot of other media. Doesn't mean that it doesn't exist in AA, it's just one issue, one aspect of life like many others.

Sorry for the Necropost, but I feel that even though T&T had an interesting ending going for it with Iris,I'd say that most of Nick's relationships are strictly platonic at best. It'll never happen, because he's a hopeless (un)romantic .

At least we all agree that Edgeworth x Oldbag should be a thing though :godot:
