Let me just get what I want to say about case 1 off my chest:
It's bad. In fact, it's horrible. I wanted to write a review about it, but I just ended up writing a bunch of mean things. The sprites look realy good and the graphics are OK, that's no problem, but it is horribly written.
At this point, I've only played half of the game, because I can't bring myself to play the rest.

I'm not saying this to hurt you, or because I have a problem with the the Idea of making a fangame, but can't keep this quiet.
Sorry guy, but you may be better of just sticking to spriting.

An interesting review you have there. While I can't disagree or agree with your points, I can say that I'm not in any way particularly pleased with the majority of the first quarter and last quarter of the dialogue. It was done a long time ago - nearly nine months ago and is quite outdated. This is one of the reasons I actually re wrote the entire script - not only did I approach it from a different angle but I spent a significant amount of time replaying the two games that inspired this series - GS4 and AAI and just wrote down notes after notes so I would be able to improve the quality of it all.

Still, I have a particular question for you. Having been the first one to comment on such a thing (and in a way, I agree with you since it's quite subpar compared to the two legendary games (Substitution and Scapegoat) which you too criticised on, why exactly would you call the dialogue horrible? Was it the lack of character development? Was it OOC? What about the development of the plot or the many different story elements weaved into it?

At the moment, your review is sub-par and horrible just like my dialogue you've criticised. I'd appreciate it if you could actually take the initiative and answer some of my questions. Your opinion, whether it be a positive or negative review, his highly valued like the others who took their time to compile a written report or a few paragraphs about the inconsistencies and negatives or even the positives they found in the game while playing it.

Of course, having done the exact same thing as you a long time ago (though as much as I try to justify it, it was just cruel and harsh), I don't expect you to do anything about it but perhaps learn some time in the future and reflect about your actions against the fangames you've reviewed (and not just mine).

We are human beings as we learn from our mistakes - every single comment that has been posted in this thread has been taken into account and has been used to make the game that fans want to play. Ping' and Cardiovore have done the same too but just from your negative comments that aren't constructive, there's nothing I can do unless you answer my questions. ^^

Feel free to post the "harsh things" you wrote down while playing. I doubt I'll be insulted over them. ;)

As I said at the start of that "review", this was just done to get it off my chest. I am preparing a more detailed review, where I will try to awnser your questions, but that will take considerable time. This was just written to let you know of my standpoint, so that I could get some air and seriously take the time to write an actual review. It get back to you with that review when it's done, but, again, that will take some time.

Well, I appreciate all reviews whether they be positive or negative, constructive or not (I disprove the latter though) so I will look forward to reading it. You've gotten me amused and interested. ;)

Update 9/9

Only a few days have passed since my last major update however with the announcement of Gyakuten Kenji 2 and the website for the game being published, I, of course, took advantage of that.

There is new box art in the first post. I ripped that amazing Edgeworth artwork and edited it slightly. Enjoy the lovely new box art. ^^

Not much news regarding the actual game itself however both cases (TSD and MSAT) are both shaping up quite nicely.

Another fact you should know is that the announcement of GK-2 will not stall development of this series despite JM being my attempt at a connection between the two games. ;)

Thank you! It's always nice to get a comment. I hope that when Case 2's demo comes out, everyone will enjoy it. It's going to be an interesting spin on Apollo's familial relationship. ;)

Update 23/9

Not much to comment for this update except that Case 1 is nearly finished. For a change, it's being programmed into the AAO editor and will be converted to PyWright script with the AAO converter. Part 3 is being developed at the moment and is expected to contain 6 testimonies instead of 3. ;)

All parts have had a dramatic change to them. Part 1 is generally, the same but has improvements but Part 2 has a massive different in Weike's final testimony. ;)

So, I am going to punch this topic UP on the list and say, I am late to answer, so very late. But for your stun-gun I bring out Franziska's whip :godot: . I'll whip you into shape.

I'll be playing your Case 1 so I can compare it to your new one when it comes out, :karma: .

I bring out Lang who can catch Franziska's whip in time. :edgy:

Aha, enjoy! I've been going over Pt. 1 and 2 and I've noticed how different the two are. The changes in Pt. 1 and 2 are subtle but you can notice them since it's much more enjoyable! ^_^

Update 23/9

Pt. 3 is still in development. >_>

500+frames and not even 1/6 done yet. I'm just finally finished the first CE of Trial Latter but I still have 5 more to go and the "Confrontation". ;)

In the mean time, enjoy this trailer made on AAO. It features custom sprites (although one isn't animated). One of the sprites is a cookie especially for you, Radex since the design is heavily, heavily based on a character from FFXIII. ;)

Zxblaze - Thank you for your offer but I'm managing scripting quite well. I have an awesome co-writer so we've got it covered. Thanks for your offer though and for showing support to the project!

Blaze0843 - Thank you for showing support to this project! I've got an overarching plot that attempts to basically combine two games into one so it's difficult but it's a challenge. When people post showing their interest, it's great as its what makes me continue as I really want to show you all my ideas. ^^

Yes, in all cases, there will be Perceive. It is not implemented in the current version (due to technical difficulties) however I have managed to work out how to use it and trust me, the code for coding Perceive is horribly complicated. xD

Thank you, Radex! Your comments are much appreciated. :)

Updates regarding game:

*Case 1 still in development - nearing the end. It will be run through the AAO converter when completed. Pt. 1 has been tested and has a few bugs after conversion but nothing major. :)

*Case 2 scripting - first testimony

*Animating OC characters appearing in Pt. 1 and Pt. 2 of Case 2. (5 parts in total)

*Graphics editing - revamps of buttons, general stuff and more.

Overdue Update :P

...Wow, it's certainly been a long time since I've posted in this thread. Almost too long and look what happens - it sinks to Page 2 and no doubt a lot of you are thinking it's been abandoned. However, this is far from the truth. JM is still active in development - just not here on C-R. >_>

With the announcement of the AAO converter, an opportunity has risen allowing myself to take advantage of the large fanbase on Ace Attorney Online. Case 1 was completed eleven days ago and was released over there. Within the last week, the general comments posted that have been posted have shown that there have been a lot of substantial changes (which there are) and they are fairly noticeable.

Changes include revamps of testimonies, pacing, characterisation, dialogue and much, much more. The episode has more of a natural conclusion and leads warmly into the upcoming Episode 2 - Mysterious Sirens and Turnabouts which has been developing quite nicely.

Features for Episode 2 that have been announced include the usage of the MASON System. Although there won't be any past/present shifts, it will be used graphically to assist in the development and proceedings of the case because of the constant character shift.

Although a release date hasn't been planned, I am hoping to have Pt. 1 and Pt. 2 (4 parts in total) out by the end of the year. Once I get through these nasty exams, I'll be able to code, code, code. :P

The same goes for Case 1 although once the converter has been fully developed, I'll be able to convert the remaining parts. If not, I already have one part converted and can simply do the rest the old fashioned way. It wouldn't take long. :karma:

However, now is the time to get back to updating over here. I have some nice updates to show you to show that I'm still alive. :P

ImageImageImage

The current status of Case 2 is writing court. I'm working on the investigation but as I was bored (What? Investigations are boring. XD), I worked on court. At the moment, I'm rewriting Ema's testimonies but I'm already 3 in (excluding hers) and am also writing the first OC's testimony.

Btw, if there is any AAO lurkers here, then this is not the update you've been waiting for. I have something else planned. xD

Good to see the project is still alive. One thing I saw in the screenshot though was that eyewitness should be one word, not two. Probably not a massive thing, but just thought you should know anyway.

Oh, and try having exams on the same week you've got work experience with Ruffian Games. Not sure where my priorities should lie.

They've been too many periods of inactivity this year for me. Thankfully, it's nearing the end of the year so my summer break is coming up. I'd probably be able to finish Case 2 and start on Case 3 since the script for (Case 2) half of it is relatively complete. :P

Lol. Fixed. I can't believe I missed that one. :bellboy:

One thing you might have noticed in the screenshots is that emulation is closer to the games themselves. ;)

Thanks, nudal! :)

:godot:

All the nameboxes have been replaced with their original and proper versions used in the games. PWlib is the only engine that uses the proper ones while PyWright and AAO draw it on screen.

...I think. I know there is some namebox assets in the general folder but I replaced them all. :P

(Legal double post)

I was going to refrain from posting till Case 1 would be released (Pt. 1 is finished converted into proper PyWright format and has been edited to take advantage of the name boxes and proper AA format), however...
MEGA UPDATE!

I just received the final piece of art from my artist and it is amazing! It is the most brilliant piece she's done so far. It's fantastic. Am I going to show you? Yes, yes of course I am. ^^

The box art introduces a new character who will be introduced in Case 3. However, I won't be saying more than that till his appearance in the game.

I tried coming up with a few new designs for him. It looked too odd so I decided to keep him as it is. I'll be using Percei's Edgeworth (GK) sprites for him so at least they'll be different. ^_^
