Haha, the croik got me! I thought that the defendents lobby had been shut down for good. :larry: So sorry about reopining it in the Prosecutor's lobby :redd:

Well, I've seen some mentions of jappanese fangames and attempted fangames, but no actual PW/AJ AA english fangames! This is an excellent series that deserves some serious fangame love. So I'm taking it upon myself to try and muster up a team to attempt one.

It will be programmed with Game Maker.

I'll probably function as the team's head writer and one of the spriters. This team will need:

[UTS]ShadowX is going to program it! He's from the Game Maker community, and I don't think he's on court records.

Spriters. I will help with spriting. However, there are a lot of sprites required to make this fangame. So, maybe 3-4 spriters would be good?

Storywriters: I will be the head writer, in a sense. However, there is a massive amount of text in the game, so two or three more writers would complete my story writing team. I personally would like it to have OC's, as in a new rookie DA, with little cameos to canon characters. However, this would be very hard to sprite...

An editor, 'cause with a lot of text comes a lot of typos!

Sound effect/ Music provider: A guy that can hunt down all of the Ace Attorney music and sound effects. And if you really wanted to go that extra mile, you could possably compose an original piece. That, of course, is not required.

PM me or post here if you would like to assist in this awesome fangame!!!
I'll be setting a forum up for it soon.
I support Phoenix/Mia, Phoenix/Franny, Edgy/Maya, Apollo/Ema OR Apollo/Vera, and Trucy/Pearls (as more than just friends... JK! XD)

A programmer. Probably only one is needed, seeing as this is a simple point and click adventure game. I don't think it will be too hard to program. Also, the programmer will have a lot of influence on the storyline (if he/she wants to.).
EDIT: [UTS]ShadowX is going to program it!

...Actually it's hard unless you wanna do it with flash. You will need some one who knows NS or KRKR quite well ( as far as I know, all Japanese PW fangames are made with KRKR). LM2 maybe easier to learn, but the quality of the works are incredible low, let alone the tons of bugs...BTW, most of the KRKR studying guidance are in Japanese. For sure you can try an RPG maker, but the game system will be very different with the original game.

Well...according to my experience, sometimes too many spriters can be a big problem. It due to the different drawing style, no less. It sounds something tiny but actually would turn up to be a real trouble, especially when you are trying to make a game with animated spirits. I suggest dividing the art work into a few different parts: spirits' line, coloring and background drawing, something like that, and every one take one part of them. Just a suggestion though, because I know it will be a huge amount of works...especially when it comes with animated spirits...

However, I'm still hoping you can find your team numbers very soon .I love your idea=D Good luck! :edgy:

Well, look at here, somebody wants to make a Phoenix Wright Game in Game Maker. I have game maker professional and to tell you the truth, it is really good. However, by my own experience, making a Phoenix Wright Game without a case maker is very hard work. Why? Cause I created one with Flash Animation. It took me a month or two to finish it. I won't join in your group, but I want to advise you that if you don't use a case maker, it will be a dreadful experience. Anyways, if you do this project (complete it in other words), there are a lot of rewards, you will learn a lot of stuff, like I did by creating my own phoenix wright game.

Here is the phoenix wright game I did with Flash so you can understand how it is: http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/372526

Good Luck on your project :garyuu:

Darn, programmer's place is already taken...

I've been using GM 7 Lite for almost two years. I can join as a second programmer(if necessary) or storywriter.

Similar to 8mapz, I've also made a Ace Attorney case in Flash.

I knew nothing about Flash when I started so I made quite a few mistakes, but I learned a lot from it. I've redesigned the engine from scratch for my second case and everything about it seems to be much better looking.

(Ignore the comically childish evidence, it was just to make sure the menus were working. :gant: )
You can see the original court record on the left, and the new court record on the right. What you can't see is the animation (obviously). The original Court Record was a bunch of still shots that just changed suddenly, one menu just turned into another, while the new Court Record animates well, with buttons sliding in and out and such.

Since you've got a programmer you'll probably not need any of this advice anyway, but I'd say to start small. Set the first case in court (or just build a section in court to start with) as it's linear and it makes it much easier to work out the bugs. Then you can learn from that and build the investigation phase (It's a nightmare to plan. :sadshoe:).

Good luck with everything, it'll be much easier to do in a team! :minuki:

:objection:

I am at the beginning stages of my fan-games development. Whereas the game hasn't been started yet, I have nearly completed planning half the cases and have come up with ideas for the others. Therefore; this proves that it is not just an inevitable failed attempt, identifiable by starting work on the game without even coming up with ideas.

That is all

Thanks for the advice everyone!
So you think it will be hard to program with game maker? I'll see what shadowX thinks.
And Steel Samurai, you can help with the story.

jeez, lots of fangame makers here! I'm also working on a flash fangame as of now. in fact, I should have a demo out in 1-2 months. so not every fangame is a "failed attempt".

If you were aiming for RM2k3 or RMXP, I may have been os some assistance, but Game Maker? I find making games using that system to be more trouble than it's worth.

Also, though I only know very little of the system, I could also help if you chose BYOND (http://www.byond.com), which is like Game Maker for Online Games.

Do you use Drag & Drop technique or coding? D&D is much more limited than basic coding. But to code you need at least basic GML knowledge and good brains.

I have good brains, but I'm too lazy to learn programming knowledge for something I consider a hobby at best.

Tip for fangame makers: Use the GBA gui. It works. It's cool. And it's a lot easier to program than the DS one. I was able to get an (almost) fully functional GBA gui going in Flash very easily. (If anyone wants the sources, PM me.)

Also, if you want some custom music, check out my custom MIDI thread. The songs sound very un-MIDIish. :edgy:

It seems there is a surge recently of pw fan games (and casemakers) projects. :minuki:

Good luck with the project.

Ive actually pulled off making a PW style fangame, so I can give a storyline and provide engine ideas (if you havent already got some). Possibly some sprite editing (if its not too hard).
