Registered just to say this is an awesome fan game.

The sprites and animations are very well done, as is the artwork, your writing and characters are excellent; simply amazing. Keep up the great work!

Just a little typo in the first case I think.
Spoiler:
When you present the painting in Gumshoe's second cross examination, Payne says something about "Mr. Gerpain's opponent." I think it was supposed to be Mr. Carver, but I could have just read that wrong.

Game looks great so far though

Yeah, That's stuff Ferdielance wrote when he was helping me with the game so I don't feel the need to correct his work. He wanted to do alot of that; presenting evidence at points that don't further the story. Which is kinda something I objected to.
Good to know you're enjoying the game.

I posted some Sprites of a new character in the Sprite section:
viewtopic.php?f=12&t=377&start=240
I used a new method in making the sprites so if you're interested take a look on how I made 'em.

I must apologize for not updating for a while now. Things have been super hectic at home and work, and juggling both at the same time is daunting...
I know I've said and asked this before but I really do need help again. I'm about halfway finished with the investigation portion of Highschool Turnabout but I'm not able to finish with all the coding that is required of this part of the game. If it was the Trial I was working on, I'd be able to get that done alot faster and by myself but the Investigation is a different beast. So if anyone is up to help out, let me know. Until I get that help, the project is on hiatus. I'll try and work on the next script so things will be done faster.

I might be able to help. My own coding is actually halfway done and I don't mind doing something else for a change. I could be able to finish like... half of the remaining portion. All I would need is a script and the graphics (sprites, evidence, etc.)
That one guy from AAO that made about a dozen cases that all kinda go off the deep end and fall apart at one point or another.

No problem. Just to note, they can be placeholders as well, It's just that I want to avoid an error screen every other minute because they can't find a resource. XD

Also, I hope that you understand that my coding style is quite a bit different from yours (looking at the scripts).

Just thought I'd drop by and give a small update. Script 2-5 for High School Turnabout is finished, I just have to re-read and edit it before I start working on it. It's about 76 pages long but may get more if I decide to add anything else. I'll need a proof-reader, if anyone wants to get spoiled silly. :maya:
After this, I have to edit some more sprites and get more pictures. If things go smoothly, I might get all this done before or after the new year. (No promises though) :grey:

Hello all you Legal Rats. It's time for some news. Chapter 4 of Checkmate and Turnabout is almost ready to be released. All that needs to be done is some extra fluff, like presenting evidence to the other characters. So whoever wants to Beta the case I'll choose 2 people. :damon:

Great work, it's one of the best fancases in terms of capturing an "Ace Attorney feel".

Thanks for playing. I hope you enjoy the second case if and when you get a chance to play it.

Yeah, I 'm able to capture the Ace Attorney feel because I've played the games constantly since the first one was released years ago. (I STILL play them to this day :meekins: )

Wow, I made an account just to say that this game is awesome and I am a bit surprised that it is still being developed after all these years. After I made it to the end of 2-3 I thought I may never find out the truth but now I have hope =))

Mad props to you bob, its great having these extremely well made fan games since we're not likely to get AAI 2 in english. :shoe:

Thank you IceDagger, and welcome to the forums. Yes, this is one of the most hardest, yet most fun projects I've ever worked on, since "Resident Evil: The Sprite Comic". Hopefully, chapter 5 will be done relatively soon.

Hang in there. I'm sure we'll see the light for when AAI2 is released. I certainly need more inspiration to keep this project active. :karma:

Just a small update.
I'm getting chapter 5 done relatively quickly. Sooner then I thought I would. :meekins:
I just need to do a few more things and I can have it up soon after New Years. (I'm hoping.)
After that, I'll begin the arduous task of getting Sprites, Backgrounds and pictures made. And after that I'll be working on writing the case. Things are looking up folks! :edgy:

Well since things have gotten underway for Turnabout Daredevil, I thought it would be nice to give an update on how things are progressing.
So far, two characters have been sprited from a looong time ago. The first should be a familiar face: Dera Deval.
Image
The next one, I can't remember if I showed him off or not, is Stunt Manly.
Image
I may go back and edit his sheet when I get the chance. Have to fix the shadowing. Man, I can't believe I made these so long ago.
The last character for now, hasn't been made yet. But I had a picture of him made up for referencing purposes. I won't give the name out yet, but I think you'll enjoy his shtick.
Image
Lot's of the script has been written so far, and I'm getting backgrounds started. I'll try and keep you updated frequently when i have something new to show off.

I followed this closely when we were stuck on the emergency backup forum, faded away, but thinking about the first half of HST that I loved and wondering if it was finished brought me back.

Downloading it now, and can't wait to play it. :)

Well I hope you enjoy the conclusion to the case. There was definitely a long hiatus between the spring and this winter with no work done, and I though it was unfair to leave people hanging. I'm hoping to get Turnabout Daredevil done in the coming months and not repeat the same mistake.

So, I played through the first half before, but I neglected to make a propper review of it. I haven't finished it yet, but here are my notes From parts one and two:
Spoiler:
Day 1, Investigation:

Lots and lots of writing mistakes:
"Stop grabbing the paper!"? That just sounds weird!
"House room Teacher" sounds realy weird too. What does that even mean?
"Do you know when the killing happened?"
Why is Phoenix talking like he's in some cheap gangster movie? It sounds realy insensitive. A kid is DEAD here, after all.
When they say "garbage bin" and "garbage pale", do they mean a garbage container and a trash can? What is a "garbage pale" anyway?
"It doesn't look destroyed." I think you say "broken" in a sentence like that.

I like how Gumshoe acts. Very In-character.
Well done!

They say the crime happened between 8:00 and 8:30, but if the crime happened at night, shouldn't that be between 20:00 and 20:30?
At least say AM or PM!

"Custodian"... "Custodial cart"... there's a lot of official words flying around for a janitor. Not realy complaining though, I'm just nitpicking.

Day 2, Trail, Part 1:

Lots and lots of writing mistakes:
there are comma's, all over the place, in unexpected, places, like when Hawk says: "I was hoping you and I would, cross paths, eventually."
It's "lying" Gumshoe, not "laying".
"flat/horizontal"? Udgy is amazing, being able to pronounce that!
It's "Four-eyes", Hugo. (Numbers are written out in "spoken" language when they're under 20/twenty.)
Wait, what's undependable? Does he mean "unreliable"?

More of a typo than a writing mistake, so it gets a line all to it's own: When thinking about Hugo's second testimony, Phoenix's lines are in [']'s(I don't know what those are called)
Another typo(i'm going to make this a section too): In his third testimony, Hugo says: Things go out the one ear and out the other."

"This is this and that is that." "This is what I'm going to do!" Phoenix sounds rather simple in his pre-trail monologue, huh?

Here comes the Hawk. I love this guy.

There! Gumshoe said "between 8:00 and 8:30 'PM'"! That's what I was talking about!

It looks kind of weird when a character's
sentence is broken off

because it doesn't fit in his textbox.
Maybe you could try refraising some things,

breaking sentenses in half.

There it is again! Now it's Hawk saying "killing", instead of something more apropriate. Realy?! I mean, come on!

Hawk realy is amazing. He's crushed Phoenix's first contradiction without a singel Objection! I love this guy.

Good one, your honor, not jumping to conclusions for once.

Hugo's testimony... This should be interesting.

Have I mentioned that I hate this particular Cross-Examination theme yet?

There it is! Hawk's first Objection! Good voice, well articulated... I like it!

Phoenix obviously never learned how to play dumb either.

"Four-eyes"? *sweat*

And there's the second screwup we were all waiting for...

Annnnnnd look who's late for the punchline!
(why, yes, I do visit TV Tropes a lot, why do you ask?)

Hawk has a themesong!

Poor Hugo...

Serve the Story - that's one of my rules.
--------------
That wasn't an objection, honest! I was just pointing someone to the bus stop!

Apparently that is the signature/title of the painting. The first part seems to be a name (Owen Sheng? probably not right) and the second part says 2012.

Spoiler:

No details for now, you'll have to wait. :igarashi:

As for how the script is going, chapter one is almost complete. After that I'll read over it a couple of times and try and fix the grammar myself. Then I'll start applying what I can to the game script to get a head start. :wellington:

Hello guys !
I'm a total n00b at the forum and I just downloaded pyWright and this game and I'm running it in Ubuntu. I don't know if this is normal or I made something wrong, but the judge is not appearing and also his text box is with Maya's name. Here's the picture:

All I did was execute python2 PyWright.py !

Thanks! :meekins:

Hi SilentBobx ! I just followed your instructions and now everything is working just fine!
I renamed the judge folder to Judge! Also the phoenix folder was in lower case and so I already renamed it too!
Thanks to you and Saluk,
now I can see udgy ! :udgy:

Ps: I don't know if I needed to do this but I copied the art folder from the game to the art folder of pywright!

Nope, you don't need to copy any folder around :) The renaming issue is only an OS compatibility thing because the linux filesystem is case sensitive while windows is not. Glad that fixed the problem.

I've been fortunate enough to get alot of art done for the game, resulting in part 1 getting that much closer to being finished. I don't want to spoil too much of what you'll see, but using an evidence box will help teasing you a bit.
Spoiler:
Image
Just try and guess who that's a picture of.

During this time, I've been able to code most of the chapter, but after that, I have to take care of examining objects in the background, and presenting evidence to characters. One of the things I'm most disappointed about doing is doing something with the move option. As most of you know, I suck with doing the that particular part, so in order to keep people from getting bugged out of the game when you Move, I'm going to keep the player in that certain spot until all things have been asked and examined. I know it will make things linear but I'd rather keep the player going rather then have them stuck on a certain part. :phoenix: I'll have to go back to past chapter and apply the same method, but not until after the game is finished. :acro:

What's the problem you are having with move? Is it something I could help with? Although in some ways the idea of the game not letting me leave a place until I have done everything there I need to is appealing and more realistic. Sometimes the travel back and forth between a lot of very separate locations feels a little silly :)
