Looking forward to it with or without a GUI. If I need to learn how to script for it, I will.. I just really want a fully working casemaker.. i've had this damn script written up for almost a year now lol.

From AHLTL Documentation:

AHLTL - AIGE High Level Texture Language

AHLTL is a language to program texture edits like Desaturation and Inversion.

//

Example AHLTL scripts

a) Desaturation
<ahltl>
defvar([desat]);
[desaturation]
getcolorcompsomat([desat]);
op("/",[desat],3);
setcomp([desat],"color");

Um, okay. Couldn't AHLTL wait until after the first release though? It's not entirely necessary... GS1 did entirely without color changes. :yuusaku:

I'm not working on AHLTL yet. I'm focusing on the needed effects now (Fade / Screen Fade / Wipe) to finish the menus.

Why are you holding out for one of these casemakers when you have your own script? And yet you don't know how to script? :eh?:

I'm confused.

He has a script for a case ready. Like:

Phoenix: Hello Maya!
Maya: Hello, Nick!

but he doesn't know how to script in programming, like this:

{
speech=Phoenix;"Hello Maya!"
char=Maya
char.anim=normal
speech=Maya;"Hello, Nick!"
}

or whatever.

Maelstrom, if you want we can work together to release your game as the "first game" on pwlib (so I get a non-biased test game for pwlib and you get your game released).

Oh.

All this talk of scripts is confusing. And I still need to finish working on my script(s). :edgeworth: Damn. Thanks for reminding me.

Following that train of thought, will there be a new section of 'Present Evidence' when the casemaker(s) are released? So people can post their fancases and discuss the makings of fancases and wotnot.

The location sprites are all 256x192 pixels, so I assume that's more or less the exact size of one of the screens.

For those of you interested in KSA_Tech's case maker, with his help I've been able to write a script that should show the basics of making a case using his language. Check it out below:

Spoiler: It's freaking LONG
Code:
#include(pwlib/pwlib.hlsl)        // Includes PWlib.

[load]

loadfont(70,"Arial",12);          // Loads the font Arial in in slot 70 with size 12.

loadtexture(1000,"PW/evidence/magatama2.png");
//^ loadtexture loads images. You need to do this with
//  all images you use. This loadimage loads "PW/evidence/magatama2.png"
//  into slot 1000. Make sure all images you load are in a different
//  slot.
loadtexture(1001,"PW/evidence/lawyer badge.png");

[createobjects]
setvar([evidencenumber],30);        // Sets the evidence ID number to 30.
setvar([evidencegfs],1001);         // Sets the evidence graphic to 1001, which is declared
                                    // in [load] as 'magatama2.png'
setvar([evidencesup],0);            // Enables/Disables the "check" button. 0 = off
setvar([evidencegfl],1001);         // Sets the picture to be shown when "check" is pressed.
setvar([evidencename],"Attorney's Badge"); // Below code should be self explanatory. :)
setvar([evidencesdesc],"Type: Other\n Received from Pearl Fey.");
setvar([evidenceldesc],"It glows with a mysterious radiant green\nlight.");
setvar([evidencenumber],30);
runscript("createevidence");        // Adds the evidence to the "evidence pool", which holds all the
                                    // evidence, unused or not.
setvar([evidencenumber],30);
runscript("addevidence");           // Adds the evidence with above ID to the court record.

setvar([evidencenumber],31);
setvar([evidencegfs],1000);
setvar([evidencegfl],1000);
setvar([evidencesup],0);
setvar([evidencename],"Maya's Magatama");
setvar([evidencesdesc],"Type: Other\n Received from Pearl Fey.");
setvar([evidenceldesc],"It glows with a mysterious radiant green\nlight.");
runscript("createevidence");
setvar([evidencenumber],31);
runscript("addevidence");

[game]
runscript("pw_initpwlib");           // Inits PWlib.
runscript("pw_initpwbgs");           // Inits PWlib's builtin bacgrounds.
runscript("pw_createema");           // Creates the Ema character, setting up sprites and name boxes.
runscript("pw_createphoenix");       // Creates the Phoenix character, setting up sprites and name boxes.
runscript("load");                   // Calls the "load" codeblock. (See top of script)
                                     // 'runscript' runs a codeblock, and after that codeblock is done,
                                     // it goes to right after the point it was called.
changetitle("BigFish's Test Script");// Sets the title of the window to the text inside.
setvar([pwmenucode],1);              // Set the state of the bottom screen menus to 1...
runscript("showpwmenu");             // ...and show it.
runscript("showpwchar");             // Turns on the character display system.
runscript("createobjects");          // Calls the "createobjects" codeblock.
runscript("pw_showmessagebox");      // Makes the message box visible.
jumptoscript("run");                 // Calls the "run" codeblock, but unlike 'runscript',
                                     // after it's done excecuting, it dosen't go back to the
                                     // excecution point. It does nothing afterwards, so you
                                     // jump to any point after that codeblcok.

[run]
runscript("pw_usepwbgcourthall");     // Set the background to Defendant's Lobby.

message("...");
message("I need to make her listen.");

jumptoscript("evip1");

[evip1]
definevar([signal],"int");            // Make a variable named [signal] that's an integer.
message("Maybe this will work.");
runscript("pw_forcepresent");         // Shows the court record with the "present" button.
waitsignal("advance",[signal]);       // Wait until signal "advance" is done to move on,
                                      // and put the state of the signal into variable [signal].
                                      // In English: This waits for the user to advance on
                                      // before doing anything else. So everything below
                                      // this happens after the user presses 'present'.
loadandplaysfx("01_Phoenix - takethat.wav",0);  // Plays the "take that!" sound.
runscript("pw_hidemessagebox");       // Hides the text box.
runscript("pw_raisetakethat");        // Shows the take that bubble.
wait(6);                              // ...and waits until that's all done (which is 6
                                      // frames at 60 frames per second) to do anything else.
if(<compare([currentitemcode],"equal",31)>,<jumptoscript("evip1right")>,<jumptoscript("evip1wrong")>);
// ^ If the item selected has the ID of    ^ Go to the [evip1right]     ^ And if it's not ID 31,
//   31 (the magatama), then...              scriptblock.                 go to [evip1wrong]

[evip1wrong]
runscript("pw_showmessagebox");       // Shows the message box. (Because it was hidden during [evip1])
runscript("pw_setnameboxtophoenix");
message("This! Look at it!");
runscript("pw_enableemawriting");     // Sets ema to her writing animation.
runscript("pw_setnameboxtoema");      // Set the name box to her too.
message("......");
runscript("pw_setnameboxtophoenix");
message("(It's hopeless... I should try again...");
jumptoscript("evip1");                // Since we failed, go back to [evip1].

[evip1right]
runscript("pw_showmessagebox");       // Shows the message box. (Because it was hidden during [evip1])
runscript("pw_setnameboxtophoenix");
message("This! Look at it!");
runscript("pw_enableemashock");       // Sets ema to her shock animation.
runscript("pw_setnameboxtoema");
runscript("setlipsynctochar");        // Enables lip syncing for the currently displayed character.
message("Oh my gosh! That is awesome!");
jumptoscript("restofgame");

[restofgame]
runscript("pw_enableemanormal");
runscript("pw_setnameboxtoema");
runscript("setlipsynctochar");
message("Now what?");
runscript("pw_setnameboxtophoenix");
runscript("setlipsynctonoone");       // Turns off lip syncing for the currently displayed character.
message("I dunno.");
quit();                               // Closes the game. Otherwise, this codeblock would
                                      // keep repeating over and over and over and over
                                      // forever.

It's recommended that you put it into a special text editor using the C++ color highlighter, since that works best for it.

Hope this helps. :keiko:

I've been wondering if it'll be possible to alter the layout of the engine at one point. I'd rather make a case in a default windows resolution (320x240, 640x480 etc), and with gba style layout (1 screen, but with ds style mouse actions), so that full screen mode would be possible.

Would something like that be possible with some simple configuration file, or would it require messing with the source code?

PWLib is limited to the DS size. In later version I can try to make it support GBA style too.

About altering the layout: to alter classic scenes you will need to touch in pwlib's code (I will try make it simple to change some graphics). To develop new layouts I can make a way to expand pwlib. But customization is always complicated.

Note: I made a video of pwlib using the test script. If someone is ever interested into seeing it, PM me.

News pls, Kanada :P

I'd be only interested in as much layout modification as needed to adjust the gba style layout to higher resolutions or wide screen monitors. PW's original layout is fine with me, I just don't really like to use the non standard resolutions due to lack of full screen support for those on most monitors.

That and ability to use higher resolutions like 640x480 or 800x600 would allow for much better quality visuals, at least for those who draw their own graphics.

Also another question, since i don't remember whether it was answered or not. What format is used for the backdrops or character faces? Would 24/32 bit png work fine with it?

pwlib support all image formats defined on the dossier for all objects.

I will develop a GBA style mode in later versions of pwlib. :godot:

That's good to hear, 32 bit pngs are probably one of the better media for in game graphics, what with alpha channels, pretty good compression without any real quality loss etc.

Another question, how will the music looping be handled (if it will be)? If the engine uses fmod or something like that I'd guess an ogg with loopstart and loopend defined in samples would work, but otherwise no idea.

MP3 channel has infinite looping as of now, not control over start and end, yet.
No ogg yet.

Btw, please use the pwlib topic, so it is easier to unify responses under one topic.

Even though OGGs are supported in my editor (along with MP3s), custom music looping is in the works. It's not too hard, so I expect full support. :)

Just adding here that CM3 will allow you to set a start position for the music so that when it has been played once, it returns to the start position.

Whoa! Chill.
The way I see it all of the people making case making programs post in eachother's topics.
I saw a topic where someone specifically asked a question about CM 2.1, instead of trying to help the person with their question all the people with case makers flooded the topic with posts about how wonderful their program was.
There were only 3 posts that actually addressed the reason the topic was made.
Two from me and one from Mecha.

So how about we show some respect for eachother here and not start fights huh?
