So, do you think you'll be releasing new versions of the Casemaker ?

I put the making of my case on hold, thinking you'd be making big changes that would need it to be entirely re-written... :phoenix:

I'm working on another project for now (one that I'm actually getting paid for), so I doubt I'll be making many more additions to this project. However, if there is a glitch/bug that you want to report, you can do so by PMing me here. I'll be checking Court-Records once in a while.

Hmmm... That's weird. I downloaded the AADS file and the casemaker.nds and I started making my case. Everything has gone well until now. I don't know where the court animations for the PW characters are T___T
Little help? I'm confused cause you said over 900 animations but my AnimationID.txt only has 500 in it <__<
Oh and can you please tell me what I have to do after the PreTrial event?
Thanks in advance and awesome work :edgy:

EDIT: Actually it seems you never included these sprites. So now may I ask you to upload the in-court sprites of Phoenix,Edgeworth and few other prosecutors if you have the time? Thanks :acro:

Ebay, China.

EDIT: Wait, you just download an emulator, or do none work on your computer? And before you ask it's completely legal if you only use freeware roms (which these are).

Yes, it's playable to make Investigation phases, but trial sprites are incomplete. To download it just go to the first page of this thread, specifically the first post, which has some info on it. As for fangames, no it can't play them, but I know that Remnants of the Past may be ported to DS.

Alright, that was a nice little break I had haha

I'm going to continue development on this, now that I've found out that a Maxmod extension has been found for the NDS homebrew community.

This means you can now incorporate .s3m/.xm/.it amiga sound files rather than being only limited to .mod files. This means I can finally make use of the .midi files (I can convert to .it files) that MrCheeze extracted from a while back.

I hope that bygones can be bygones, I've sent out PMs to those that I needed to apologize to, for previous arguments around the Ace Attorney community that should not have happened. An act of immaturity on my part.

I'm going to be starting from scratch and working with EFSlib to incorporate a computer/MacOSX version that will work for this as well.

Hope you're all doing well

I know he isn't associated, but he was an AADS fanboy that used to be a pain (because he couldn't get his point across without cussing). So, it was a bad aspect of fanboy stuff (I wouldn't like it even if he was a PWLib fanboy).

I'm making one strict version, one with an embedded file system. Emulators on both the PC and the Mac OSX work with EFS, as well as almost all the major flash cards.

Previously, I was using libFAT, which did not work with PC/Mac OSX emulators and froze on a few flash cards.

I'm going to be starting from scratch and working my way up to a finished product. This time, I will be more involved in making the engine run well, rather than aesthetics (the only reason why I was focusing on aesthetics previously, was for an entry into a competition).

Good to see you back, I was kind of wondering where you had disappeared to! You did all that work, and it was a nice start, but then it was just kind of stuck in a very incomplete state after the contest.

The way you left felt like "Yeah, now that I won the contest, forget the users.", but nice that you really didn't simply vanished like a previous someone.

First versions of engines always tend to end like this: "After all the 10 week work, I just found a new way to do certain stuff that make it 5000x faster (but fixing it to the new way will take other 10 weeks)."

Now that you have some experience on PALib, you can draw a layout of what to do earlier on.

Also I did recall seeing the new Nintendo DS firmware making tons of cards not to work anymore. ("antipiracy" bursts from Nintendo)

Haha, no. After the competition, I was tied up with school (the competition was on the Friday of my March break, and I had promised my parents I would focus on my studies after the competition).

And the only reason why I didn't get back into developing this when summer started was because I was caught up in developing other software. I had gotten a job as a freelance website designer as well, and was making some decent cash off that. Plus I had made a game (also NDS) to enter into a competition (judging for the competition starts tomorrow ^^)

so basically, after I finished the game, I realized how incomplete AADS was so I chose to come back to it and work on it further.

Also, just read up on the anti-piracy thing by Nintendo,

That was a new firmware, I guess recently (I didn't notice until now), on the DSi. The DSi already only had about 4-5 compatible flash cards anyways.

It's not as if the majority of AA players own DSi's, considering the amount of time between Ace Attorney's release and the DSi's release.

I have yet to touch my source code just yet, as I'm re-considering coding this on the NDS.

I'm thinking about perhaps programming this for the GBA, for people currently using PSP/Wii's that are willing to play it on those.

People with a slot-2 device such as EZ 3-in-1 can also emulate Ace Attorney DS through those devices.

Then again, those without slot-2 devices cannot play Ace Attorney DS if it is on the Gameboy Advance.

I'll just have to see for myself, any feedback/comments regarding this are appreciated.

Well, honestly, I'd rather have this on the DS (I do own a Slot 2 M3 though), why :
- The DS has extra screen space compared to GBA.
- Most of us got to know the Ace Attorney Series on the DS, so having a case maker on the DS helps recreating the feel of playing the actual game.
- You've had issues with the DS not being powerful enough at times, so this might be even worse on the GBA... I don't know much about developping though.
- GBA homebrews are rather obsolete nowadays, DS homebrews get popular easier.

That's what I think. If developping it on GBA is a lot easier, then do what you think is best, but I know it would be easier for me to play it on the DS ;)

I looked into GBAdev, and the major issues with working on the GBA are:

1. Screen size.
2. Lack of EFS (embedded file system).
3. Less capabilities for sound/images, haven't looked into loading backgrounds from FAT/RAM.

I'm continuing development on the NDS, but starting from scratch. Even up to now, I've completed case selection and the main menu screen, and I've found several memory leaks/fixes that would improve gameplay that wouldn't have been there had I been programming this last year.

I've also taken KSA_Tech/saluk's advice in implementing an infinite evidence/profile system. This will in turn remove the parsing of init.ini file requirement completely, relying on parsing storyline.ini only.

Hey ^^ Great work on the Casemaker so far. I was just wondering what the issue was with mp3s. I'm running your casemaker on a flash card, and it was advised to get rid of the mp3 folder, as it causes crashing. I got rid of it, and voila! It works. But now I've got no music T.T Is there any way around this? The music is one of my favorite parts :<

EDIT: Found the 1.1 update. When I select anything from Tutorial, it loads the area, but is seems to crash as it tries to play the music. :/ I have about 600 MB free on an 8 GB SD Card. Should I free up more space?

Don't use any of my old revisions for now, I'm starting over with a new library.

Also, no development on this until tomorrow, my laptop charger was fried so I ordered a new one, will be arriving tomorrow.

Some bad news,

I may have to combine characters and backgrounds into one layer.

That means images will have to be composed of both the character and the map:

Image

Capcom uses a more advanced way of loading backgrounds, allowing them to take more advantage of the limit of tiles the screen can have at one time. I will be looking into emulating this.

I think he means getting your case as a standalone DS file...

The only problem is that there's gonna be a need for much more sprites, unless characters only appear in one place. :payne:
