Maya and Cigami art thanks to Ardee.

Welcome to the new thread for my fangame: Ace attorney, Partners in Justice, my "Sequel" to GS4.

It is set the year after Apollo Justice; Phoenix has had his badge reinstated, and the Wright Talent Agency/ Law offices is in full swing. Play as both Ace Attorneys as you unravel the mysteries of past and present, leading up to an amazing climax at the end!

Progress: Actual programming of the game will probably not begin until the near the end of the year, when the tool i'll create the game on is released, but much of the spriting and planning of the cases is done.
Team: Me
Ardee (Awesome Official Art)

More information can be found on the wiki.

This thread will soon be updated with more information.

Turnabout Turnabout?

If the first case happens at T&T time, it shouldn't use AJ court/lobby. Also, Apollo seems unlike himself. Would he ever call Kristoph "Krissy"?

Who's the hatman?

He's 11 at the time. :yuusaku:

I think, at least according to Jibber... *fades out*

Wait, he'd be 13, wouldn't he?

Turnabout Turnabout will make sense when you play it, trust me.

The Courtroom thing is a point... And as Drammy said, He is only 13 (the 11 thing I said was a random estimate...)

The guy in the hat is the main Prosecutor, Joshua Cigami. He's the guy who was throwing the knife at polly in that screeny (He has an irritating tendency to throw evidence at the defense/ witness/ Judge)

By a point, do you mean it's important to the plot? (i.e. they're two different courts)

Are you sure you want to do it in Stencyl?
I remember hearing about that before they closed the floodgates, and if it's what I remember, it's more suited to platforming games than visual novels.

Also, it's going to take a very long time to come out if it wants to fulfill all those promises, so maybe in the meantime you could try one of the casemakers already pre-made specifically for making cases.

I understand what you're saying, but i've tried some of the availible casemakers, but I don't feel they'll offer the same versatility: Forensics, or the percieve system, for example, will be easy to make in stencyl. Also, I don't see how it would be any more difficult than making a long RPG cutscene with interactive bits :godot:

Meh, well I've asked how easy it would be on their forums...

As i said, though, the programming shouln't be hard: It's the pain of importing all the graphics that annoys me :will:
Once that's done, though, It should be easy.

Hmm... Maybe I should release an easy, editable "Game" with all the graphics and stuff already added, so it would be easier for others to make Stencyl Ace Attorney fangames...

I'll see how how much interest there is :godot:

Well, just because something makes things easier to make, doesn't mean it makes things easy. I am fairly experienced with python, and find that I can generally work fast with it. However, phoenix wright is a bit beyond just a visual novel game. There are a lot of things about it that you don't realize until you try and emulate it. The basics were not hard, I had a working case in less than a week when I started working PyWright (at that point it was a fancase like your project), but the details and improving it as a development tool, converting the art, making animations work right, and making the interface feel the same etc, has taken months.

I think you would be better off working with a casemaker and petitioning for the features you feel are missing. As for myself and PyWright, I am planning on adding the ds additions souch as fingerprinting or perceive. At least one of the games being made in PyWright does need the perceive system. I will also be making it possible to code interfaces on your own. Some things, like psyche locks, I have implemented as a game script rather than in code. So these kinds of things can and will be able to be done. Not to mention, the source code is open so someone else could work on implementing more features as well. The best part about PyWright is that you really shouldn't have to worry about the art too much. I have converted all characters over and you just download what you need.

As for other casemakers, Ace Attourney Online is very simple to use, probably the easiest. It doesn't have all the features, but I hear that there is work being done to be able to import it into pwlib. And you don't have to worry about art in AAO, because they have it all there as well. I don't know about future development, but it might be a good place to start and get a feel for things. I can think of ways to do the percieve system or even some of the other investigation techniques WITHOUT a specific interface for it. Just using some type of menu letting you choose what to do.

And of course there is pwlib. While you have to wait or do a lot of work to get characters converted, because they haven't all been done yet, you will notice that much of the "features" of pwlib lately, such as the menu screen, are not being programmed by KSA, but instead being developed in the casemaker itself by the community. I expect that perceive will be done at some point as well. If not, if you learn pwlib enough you could even do it. It is powerful enough to allow any addon you want to make, even new features not in the original games. And since it is popular, there is a helpful community.

I don't think it's a good idea to hedge your bets on some program that isn't even released yet, hoping it will allow you do accomplish your vision. On the one hand, you could use a case maker, and maybe have to wait for a specific feature or try to implement the specific feature. On the other hand, you wait for this other tool, and then have to implement ALL of phoenix wright, instead of just the one feature. Plus, you can start learning now, so that when the feature is implemented, you will be nearly done already.

Both pywright and pwlib are much more than just a simple casemaker, and have a LOT of flexibility to do more than just the features that are included. (Earlier I wondered if you knew about pywright/pwlib but then I remembered you posting in my forum. Sorry bout that!)

@Drammy: Ahh, thanks for reminding me!

@Saluk: I have tried PyWright (I can't get PWlib working on my computer, dammit :zenitora: ) And I like it, but I want my game to feel exactly how I want it, and less... Forced to leave out certain things. You said to Petition for features not added, but I would like features which were never in the games, so it is unlikley that anyone besides me would use them.

I don't see how hard it could be to add all the graphics. Stencyl can easily import graphics, fonts etc. Also, there's no coding, which is a huge plus.

I have asked how hard that kind of game is, and although a programmer of ythe engine hasn't responded yet, the general consensus is that I could make a long RPG cutscene, with selections and buttons and whatever :godot:

also, distribution is Stencyl is easy: you can package it as an .exe, or upload it to their website for free.

So, basically, Stencyl won't be great, but it will be better for me than anything else, as far as I know :edgy:

Er, there is always coding in game development. Don't be fooled. It may be a different kind of coding, like not editing a text file, but it is still coding. I have tried so many of those non-coding systems :) You still have to set up logic.

But like I said, you can make new systems or get someone to help you in pwlib, and even in PyWright, where I am adding some ways to build a custom interface soon. You shouldn't feel limited by what is there. I haven't announced my fangame yet, but it definitely will have some different things in it than any of the other games have!

Anyway, I won't say any more. If you want to wait and bet on stencyl that's fine. But if you want to make your game accurate it will probably take a lot more work in stencyl than you may realize. Phoenix wright games are a bit more than just a couple of images shown sequentially.

Good luck on your game no matter which way you choose to develop it!

By "Coding" I did mean editing a text file. Obviously, you need to use your brain :godot:

But it isn't like Gamemaker, which is just code behind a drag and drop interface: Stencyl works using "Snippets"... check their website for more info.

I'll have a think about changing platforms, it depends on what's added to PyWright (As PWlib won't work on my computer, and it's probably too advanced, anyhow) But according to the Stencyl team, it is probably one of the easiest Genres to make, so I don't fell the need to change just yet.

As I say, I will think about it :will:

What kind of issue you have with AIGE (PWLib)? And witch version are you using too?

It would be nice to know when people have issues and not to be simply tossed aside. I can't fix issues I'm not aware of.

I have downloaded the latest version, and followed all the instructions it the tutorial, but when I open aige, I get something like

"Cannot start Aige, file *Insert a load of nonsense here* cannot be found."

I'll give you a more detailed response later...

If you did ask before, it was something fixable in 5 seconds:
Search the file on google, download it and put it on the same folder as AIGE.exe.
Problem fixed.
I think i'll include it on the AIGE distro on 0.9.800.

You can ask about anything pwlib-related. Surely myself or other people will help you.

I'm sure that with help, PWLib gets easy to work with. (I won't deny that it is hard to sit and learn in certain cases, but Shinku will address that, I hope).

Okay, I now need some graphics.

I'm making the backgrounds that show when you select your case, but I need art for some characters.

It needs to be near enough to the quality of the Official art, but half the size, and from the waist up.

Needed:

Micheal and Malcolm Scarr: Normal front facing pose.

Older Maya: Again, normal front facing Pose.

Joshua Cigami: Similar positon to Valnt in his Poses, but pointing at the camera with his wand.

If anyone could help, it would be much Obliged :godot:
