PW:AARR is a upcoming rerelease of the old game Phoenix Wright : Ace Attorney. Based entirely off PowerPoint, I hope
that this game will catch your eye

What I've done so far : I'm in the middle of The First Turnabout and once I finish
the first cross-examination a playable demo will be released. The dialogue is a bit
tweaked to suit the case's length but most of it is intact.
What I need : If any of you could create a test engine for Investigations scenes (note
that it does have to be in PowerPoint) It would be greatly appreciated.

The First Turnabout
Pre-Trial - FINISHED
Trial - 25%
Cross-examinations - 0%

A playable demo will be released next month.

See you guys!

I-In... Powerpoint? Oh geez, that sounds painful. Is there any particular reason?

Actually... I'm not sure if this is really... okay from a legal standpoint.

We're protected by fair use... but only because we use the content (sprites, music, backgrounds) in other purposes (like, in a different form). But you're re-creating an entire game that people are still expected to pay money for, so... I'm not sure if this is a good idea.
That one guy from AAO that made about a dozen cases that all kinda go off the deep end and fall apart at one point or another.

Powerpoint AA Game would sound awesome, actually. I tried to experiment it quite some times. But other than that, if you're going to re-make 1-1 in Powerpoint, then I'd watch my back if I were you, as it's kinda violating the copyright laws.

The game won't (hopefully) be copyrighted and (hopefully) I won't be sued.
The game isn't 1:1 scaled even though the main story is intact, the dialogue is
tweaked to suit my liking.

And this is only going to be a demo of what you can do in Powerpoint, after
people see the first case here, I'll be releasing my own version of the game,
with a different storyline and such.

It's actually not that painful, I recreated the entire pre-trial yesterday in half an hour to a hour.
Plus, the trial only took 2 hours to re-create the start of it.

Well, since I'm only going to release the first case, its not technically breaking the copyright laws because
the first case IS free on most digital platforms like the iOS and Wiiware.

I'm still curious-- Why Powerpoint, instead of any of the game engines made specifically for Phoenix Wright fangames? I understand the "first part", because it's basically just text and images. But once you get into the trial, you'd have to start accounting for player input and that seems like it's gonna get a lot harder than it has to be. Is there some kind of advantage here I'm not seeing?

Furthermore, you didn't really address DWaM's rather important issue. Hoping you won't get sued doesn't inspire much confidence.

This is going to be a demo! It will only include the first cross-examination and at the end there will be a "Like the demo? Check out Capcom's DS title of the same game!"
so you won't play the whole case!

Powerpoint is the easiest to use, and because I HATE coding, I decided to use powerpoint.
You really think it's hard to HYPERLINK? That's seriously all I do for everything in the
trial, cross-examinations are a piece of cake, and questions are basically hyperlinks that
go to different slides when you click them. It's much more easier than other case-makers
although it takes a LOT longer.

...and another reason I'm making it is for bragging rights. :P

Also after the demo is released, I'll be working on a whole new
powerpoint game using the same engine as this demo, so
look forward to this and the upcoming game.

The whole thing is a demo, you'll be able to play up to the first cross-examination.
The end will have a link to the DS site and a end slide.

I will be also creating a game based off this engine so this is just to see how people
would react to a powerpoint Phoenix Wright DEMO.

You should have clarified that...the title of this thread and the content of your post make it seems like you eanted to remake the entire game.

And I'm still not really sure if doing the demo is okay...why not make a demo of your own game rather than doing just the first cross-examination of the ridiculously short case that is 1-1?

I'd say from experience that trial-making is a lot more than hyperlinking, but my main point is that while I don't at all doubt that you CAN make a playable trial in PowerPoint, there's virtually no reason to because we have programs like the Ace Attorney Online editor that are specialized to make these games. It's like using a bucket to put out a house fire when there's a fire hose already set up. Sure you can get the job done with both, but it's going to be a lot more unnecessary work with the bucket than with the hose. And considering how long case-making takes even for people who do use these systems, it seems you're giving yourself a lot more work than you really need to be doing.

The AAO engine requires no coding and is far more efficient than Powerpoint, which would cut a ton of time down on the project. If you've tried that and didn't like it, then I don't know what to say. Good luck, I suppose. It doesn't seem like a good idea to me but hey I guess you can always prove me wrong. I don't want to kill your enthusiasm on this, I just think if you want to do an AA case you'd be better off working in AAO or something.

I honestly think you should give videos and images to see how this will work out.
I mean, it's freaking Powerpoint. It's not exactly the most flexible in terms of game development.
But regardless, if you can pull this off, I'm interested. I used to make Powerpoint games myself.

I think as long as the case and dialogue are changed somewhat, it should be okay. Of course, the dialogue changes will have to be pretty extensive to make sure.

A challenge I have for you. The entire case in The First Turnabout hinges on Sawhit slipping up and saying it was 1pm, when in reality, there's really no reason for him to say exactly what time it was unless he was prompted.

As for making this in PowerPoint, best of luck to you. I'll be interested to see how that could work.

I'm going to abandon THIS project, but not the engine.
once I get a cross-examination engine working in PowerPoint,
I'll be releasing a PowerPoint engine for people to make their
own Ace Atorrney games, I'll be making a thread later.
