Ok, I saw someone came up with the idea of a challenge, and that's inspired me to make this little challenge for all you case-keteers. It's a simple one, and it's a 1 invest, 1 trial challenge. Yeah, pretty much the equivilant of a short story competition. I will judge the entries, and the deadline won't be for a while since I'll only set it after all the main case-makers have released a functioning beta.

The Challenge is: Write a short case which deals with the affects of an alternate ending to one of the cases.

In other words, what would happen if Phoenix or Apollo lost (Or in some cases, won) one of their cases, or something else happened differently? What would change? What would stay the same? It can be ANY case (Yes, even 1-1). The only rule I have is that it has to be a real case. No 'Let's just follow Nick/Polly around and see how he feels'. There needs to be a defendant, a victim and the real criminal. Apart from that, it's really up to you!

I hope that this can provoke some cool entries, sadly this isn't a contest as I can't offer any prizes but I hope that doesn't affect your enthusiasm. :)

Sounds fun :D

Does it have to be a script, an actual game via PWLib/CM3/whatever, or can it be either? Or something else?

An actual case, made by any case-maker or by any other method. That's why I'm waiting for all the working betas of the main case-makers to be released. It wouldn't be fair to force anyone to use a case maker they don't know about. In the same way, people don't HAVE to use the case-makers, they can program it themselves.

Because of all this, this'll probably be a summer long challenge. :)

I have two ideas....
Spoiler: JFA Case 2-4
Phoenix Wright gets Matt Engarde acquitted and he decides to go crazy.

Spoiler: T&T Case 3-4
Mia Fey wins the case before Terry Fawles dies and gets Dahlia convicted early.

Back, check out LOZ AA.

Interesting ideas. The thing is, you now need to make a case out of those. It's not just about coming up with the thing that's changed, you have to then come up with your own ideas on what happened next and then run with it. XD

Sounds like an interesting challenge. I'll be using MechaBowser's CaseMaker 2.1 for this.

EDIT: Or PWLib or CaseMaker 3.0

It's a bit dissapointing seeing the lack of replies to this, I thought it'd be really popular... *sighs*

Recently it seems that the Games forum itself started to turn a bit more silent then usual.

Hey, not for nothing, but...making a case is a big deal, and I'm not sure if everyone would want to make one solely as a result of a contest.

Now maybe if sugar-cookies were involved...

What Katana said, and also that a lot of people who are in the games section are here 'cause they already have an idea and don't really have time for extra cases. As the casemakers get released and people want to play around with them for the sake of playing around, there might be more interest in it. I think it's a good idea, though! :maya: I just have enough to do as it is.

On the bright side, this might be a lot less work than most projects, because you can use absolutely no OCs and come up with something good anyways. Spriting is (IMO) more than half of the battle.

I think too that ppl are eager to make their ideas turn in a game first (as pwlib is almost out, and we have pywright and possibly (later on) CM3).

I know people want to make a game, and that's fine. The thing is though, I don't want this area of casemaking to go. If we take our analogy from earlier, novelists still write short stories because they're inspired, challenged, or wanting to do something different. Then again, since the beta's aren't out, who knows. I could get a rush of entries :)

And it would give a lot of people practice with PWLib XD

All I hope is that people doesn't get scared with the programming part of PWLib. :franny:

Everything is a possibility until something proves it impossible or wrong.

Contests could make people develop some interesting scenarios, yes.

Don't forget that this time of the year is when most students have final exams/projects. I myself have just graduated, but it's not unreasonable to think the forums may be a little empty these days.

I think this is a good idea, although I'm not sure the art of case making has really been around long enough (or strong enough) to support a contest like this. pywright is just released, and pwlib still isn't quite out yet, so i'm not sure anyone is up to competing just yet. There other other options of course, but I think we need to let things mature a bit longer. Once we have many people who are skilled at making cases with their method of choice, this could be brought up again.

I mean, I'd like to take part in this, if enough other people want to as well. However, most of my time will probably be spent on pywright itself and the cases that go with that, not to mention my other more important projects. If we as a community were good enough that we could do a competition like this in a week or less, that would be even better. Shorter contests are funner than longer ones, because you get to put a lot of energy into it at once and then move on after. Long contests tend to feel more like work than fun. Also, I tend to wait until the last week anyway, and then I have no chance of competing with what others have already done, and so I give up :P

But overall I do like this idea. Maybe we can let both the case maker programs and case authors develop some more over the summer, and do a contest near the end instead of the beginning.

Another forum I used to frequent (MFGG) had contests similar to these going on quite often. They ran a little different though. Saluk's idea of short, sweet contests is right on the money from my experience. They ran for a week or two, and if not enough entries were in, extensions were made.

Of course, this is Sparta court-records, so whatever floats your boat. Just giving my two cents.

EDIT: Oh and their's were simpler with no need for case-makers, so maybe we should give this area of the forum a chance to mature before asking for a challenge.

People are still developing their casemakers. Any games that are already out were either made online or with general game developing software (aka Non casemakers). But I see alot of topics telling about games that are going to be made with pwlib or CaseMaker 3. So people are really just waiting for a casemaker. I dont think this contest is a bad idea, I just think it should wait until at least a few casemakers are out.

Ok, now PWlib is out, I'm bumping this topic back up so people can reads it. It still won't start for ages yet, but now the casemaking community is getting bigger I thought now would be a good time.
