First off, as of this posting (~12:00 AM CST May 25/26) the rom has not been leaked. Don't request it. Not that you should anyways once it is.

Anyways, as with GS4's release I figured we should set up a base thread to coordinate ripping efforts. As far as I know deufeufeu doesn't frequent here anymore, so we'll likely have to do a lot of the ripping by hand (hope I'm wrong.) iDeaS is probably going to be the best for this, as it's had a nice speed bump since 2007 and can disable layers, unlike no$gba.

I'll take a look with TileEd to see if profiles/evidence can be read like that, but it's doubtful as GS4 was incompatible with them.

Of course we also have the overworld sprites to rip now too... :yuusaku:

Anyways, once the game is out we can update this post with more detailed dividing up of work. For now, who thinks they can do what? (In before Mikker returns and does it all on his own in ten seconds.)

Invertigo was the one who provided all the AJ rips that are on the site now, so once the rom is out I'll ask if he's willing to give us a hand. But even with rips there are always holes, or timing issues that can't be worked out until you've seen them in game, so caps are always good to have too.

I'll be going through the game like a mad fiend my first time through, so I probably won't be doing any capping except for mugshots, but after that I'll be all about the sprites. Maybe we should try to divide the load by case?

That could be a good idea. Once I get ahold of it, I'm going to rush through Case One and then use CheatEngine + iDeaS/no$gba to check the number of cases.

I'll also set up a gallery for screens/take some videos like I did with GS4.

iDeaS can disable all the layers but the sprites - unfortunately, this keeps the text as well.

Invertigo managed to figure out a way to rip AJ sprites, he might be able to do the same for GK. (In fact, he might have to; I think there's a few sprites that are only done while more than one person is on screen.)

Also, for the record, me doing rips in "ten seconds" is a very, very big lie, BTW. This shit takes days. I mean, I can do it and all, of course but when it can LITERALLY be done in ten seconds by a special program that is ALREADY MADE, it really dampens my enthusiasm for the task a fair bit :P

Besides, it seems like it would be hard to get clean rips, as 1) 3D is used which disqualifies one of the best for-ripping emulators and 2) some of the big sprites seems to often be moved to the left/right of the screen. I'm sure they're all in there in full, though, so it might be best to get a programme to retrieve it.

Is anyone still playing the rom? When you go up to talk to someone you can get a clean, full body shot of them. If anyone can get me a few caps of those, even just still shots, I'd really appreciate it. I'm trying to get at least one pic up from each character so those who aren't playing can at least have an idea of what these crazy people look like.

I'm still looking into hacking the sprites out, but haven't made much progress. If by Friday I still haven't found a solution I'm going to start at case 3 and just start capping the old fashioned way.
