Right now I'm listening to Queen's "Under Pressure." How this fits into the 1980s Alternative I have no idea (it's more of an Arena Rock/Mainstream song to me), but its still a good song.

This work could be considered the "original Russian opera." Though it wasn't the first opera that was sung in Russian, it was the first one written by a Russian composer, as well as the first to truly incorporate Russian themes into it. The tale of Ivan Susanin is of disputed accuracy, but it served as great plot material. Heck, just about anything in Russian history that involves the Time of Troubles and the events leading up to it makes for a good plot.

I never really understood why this opera is so rarely performed outside of Russia. The plot's good enough, and the music's beautiful--not to mention wonderfully connected to the scenes. Just by listening, I can get a decent understanding of what's going on.

I love that song as well. I can see Klavier singing it when he releases one of those cheesy, <Insert fading, but formerly popular artist's name here> Sings the <Insert Genre of music here> kind of albums. So this one, in theory, would be Klavier Gavin Sings the Dance Hits of the 1980s.
Now that we have that bit of insanity out of the way, I can report that I'm currently listening to the sounds of people breathing, typing, and rolling about on chairs for I'm at work and we really aren't suppose to listen to music here (although if no one were here we would).
