Speaking of Smashing Pumpkins, I really hate to say it, but I think I might like them to an extent. It's a total guilty pleasure though, it just feels wrong. I listened to Mellon Collie and the Infinite WAHHHHHHHH yesterday and it... wasn't as bad as... well it... could've been worse you know... I guess.

I'm re-listening to it now actually...

Just discovered this song today at drama rehearsal. It's nice, it reminds me of the 50's jazz.

I'm listening to Los Campesinos!'s newest album, We Are Beautiful, We Are Doomed. This band is basically my favorite of 2008, and they already released an album earlier this year in April. And another one in October. What's that you say, it's not October? Thank god for leaks.

It's an incredible album, just like their earlier one, which is barely better. But goddamn, this is great. I can't get over how exciting this is.

Holy shit, you are awesome. MBV rocks. Especially Loveless. How come there's no good shoegaze music anymore? >_<

I'm listening to "The Guitar's Seranade" from the Gyakuten Meets Orchestra 2008 album. I couldn't stand the song after having to replay it over and over and overe again in the case, but with the lyrics, it's actually quite pretty. ^_^

Sing For Absolution by Muse
I've never mentioned it here before, but my GOD Muse is orgasmic. They've been my favorite band for years, and they are simply INCREDIBLE live. That isn't to say that their studio versions aren't good, but it's not every day that you come across a band that's better live than in the studio. Matt Bellamy can't be described with human words. @_@

Seriously, other than Stockholm Syndrome I can't really focus enough to absorb the song's meaning. And SS's title was what caught me, since I had been doing research on that very syndrome for a project.

Spoiler: lyrics
Lips are turning blue
A kiss that can't renew
I only dream of you
My beautiful

Tiptoe to your room
A starlight in the gloom
I only dream of you
And you never knew

Sing for absolution
I will be singing
Falling from your grace

There's nowhere left to hide
In no one to confide
The truth runs deep inside
And will never die

Lips are turning blue
A kiss that can't renew
I only dream of you
My beautiful

Sing for absolution
I will be singing
Falling from your grace

Sing for absolution
I will be singing
Falling from your grace

Our wrongs remain unrectified
And our souls won't be exhumed

I've been listening to the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack quite a bit recently. One of the things I like about folk music is that the intention is a bit different from a lot of other music; most of the time, modern music is intended simply to entertain you. However, a lot of folk music is not only about this, but also about comfort and soothing the soul.

Here's one of the more humorous tracks off the album. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f2dqgUkJOvs

Assuming you're not being sarcastic, I highly agree with you. Of course, they sound like complete shit live, and Billy Corgan is an egotistical prick, and I haven't had the chance to hear Zeitgeist yet...

But I love Smashing Pumpkins. My sister owns nearly all their music. (Right now, I have the song "Obscure" stuck in my head...)

Spoiler: Men at Work - Overkill
I can't get to sleep
I think about the implications
Of diving in too deep
And possibly the complications

Especially at night
I worry over situations
I know I'll be alright
Perhaps it's just imagination

Day after day it reappears
Night after night my heartbeat shows the fear
Ghosts appear and fade away

Alone between the sheets
Only brings exasperation
It's time to walk the streets
Smell the desperation

At least there's pretty lights
And though there's little variation
It nullifies the night from overkill

Day after day it reappears
Night after night my heartbeat shows the fear
Ghosts appear and fade away
Come back another day

I can't get to sleep
I think about the implications

I know I'll be alright
It's just overkill

The Unforgiven - Metallica

Can't say much about the song other than I can't get it out of my head. Of course, it helps that the song sounds really, really, REALLY good. For being a mostly-thrash metal band, they write some pretty heavy, mellow, low-key ballads.

Especially their most commercial song. :/ I like Doomsday Clock, but I really haven't bothered to listen to anything else of theirs.
All The Things She Saidby t.A.T.u
Won't explain what I think it's about, for multiple reasons, among them being that it's pretty obvious.
Spoiler: Lyrics
All the things she said
All the things she said
Running through my head
All the things she said
All the things she said
Running through my head
This is not enough

I'm in serious shit, I feel totally lost
If I'm asking for help it's only because
Being with you has opened my eyes
Could I ever believe such a perfect surprise?

I keep asking myself, wondering how
I keep closing my eyes but I can't block you out
Wanna fly to a place where it's just you and me
Nobody else so we can be free

All the things she said
All the things she said
Running through my head
All the things she said
All the things she said
Running through my head
This is not enough
This is not enough

All the things she said
All the things she said

And I'm all mixed up, feeling cornered and rushed
They say it's my fault but I want her so much
Wanna fly her away where the sun and rain
Come in over my face, wash away all the shame
When they stop and stare don't worry me
Cause I'm feeling for her what she's feeling for me
I can try to pretend, I can try to forget
But it's driving me mad, going out of my head

Mother looking at me
Tell me what do you see?
Yes, I've lost my mind

Daddy looking at me
Will I ever be free?
Have I crossed the line?

All the things she said.......

Opeth is one of my favorite metal bands. They combine soft rock/prog elements with the harsher guitar-and-drum driven sound you would usually expect of metal bands to create a great contrast of tonality. Frequently their songs will alternate a soft, acoustic guitar ballad section with harder hitting, distorted guitars. Their arrangement is pretty complex and challenging, with many parts and movements to a typical song; their songs are also very long (frequently 7 minutes or more). The vocals similarly alternate between a "clean" vocal style, often utilized to express despair or somberness, and a harsh "growl" that expresses bleakness or frustration. Many times, the vocals are very understated; the kind of vocal execution where the vocalist doesn't seem to be very outwardly affected by what he is singing, but you can tell that he must be dying inside.

I particularly enjoy this track, off one of their older albums, because the conclusion to the track is so intensely emotional.

I don't know about "Cherub Rock" being the most commercial... Honestly, I've heard more of "1979" on the radio, and "Tonight Tonight." It certainly has a fair share of airplay though, and I think it showed up on Guitar Hero/Rock Band/some rhythm game.

Having listened to the majority of their albums, I love SP's music despite its supposed depressing quality. It's still good to listen to. I guess I feel that way about Radiohead, too.
