^^ Too true. The thing that pisses me off the most is when you finally finish it and it goes "Hey! If you were a SMART person, you could do this in five moves! Doesn't that make you wanna try it again?"

Who here actually managed to finish the final puzzle (I mean, FINAL final, in Layton's challenges) of Pandora's Box? Took me about a week of my DS on that one freakin' puzzle. Addictive, but sadly an utter waste of time.

That's awesome. That would explain how people manage to sneak puzzles inside ROCKS.

The hard part is coming up with a puzzle every time =(

Speaking of puzzles,

A man found Sally on the floor of his living room, dead. The autopsy shows she was killed by suffocation. Only clues of how she died were:

-On the windowsill and floor, were glass shards.

-There are puddles of water on the floor.

-There is a baseball on the floor.

There are no cuts or bruises on her body. How did she die? :yogi:

Er, maybe a hobo chucked a baseball through the window when she was having a drink of water and it landed in her jaw. She couldn't get it out and she suffocated as she had no nose. The glass of water smashed on the floor leaving puddles of water and more glass shards. Do I win?

XD But then, how does that explain how they sometimes have painting shards or something? And how does finding 3 differences between a photo and the real place alert them to the location of a hidden puzzle? And why are there always 3 differences!? And why can they only take a photo in certain locations!?!? AAAAAARRRRGGGHHH THIS MAKES NO SENSE!!!

Some guy broke in through the window by throwing a baseball through it. Sally was so surprised she spilled the water she was drinking. Then the guy suffocated her.

Ceres already said it: Sally's a fish. Somebody broke the window with a baseball, which hit Sally's fishbowl, spilling its water, and killing Sally. But as Ceres also said, puzzles go here.

And Mask*DeMasque, I didn't mean a C-R subforum dedicated to Layton (I once asked Croik if that was possible, but she said no), I meant a separate forum (if it's necessary, using a free forum-hosting site), entirely dedicated to Layton. Just like C-R, but for Layton. "Professor's Trunk", anyone?

Also, the official English site was updated with an Unwound Future theme. Right now it's only got a trailer and a link to pre-order the game. But it's an update.

@Looby: I actually found the first ones of those easy, but then they just got unnecessary. Specially "The Diabolical Box" (that game's last one). I gave up on that one after days, and had to use a walkthrough. Looby, once you see that one, you'll know why we hate them.

I, uh, actually love those sliding puzzles :3 Except Princess In A Box- I tried for hours on end and could not do it... I had to use a walkthrough in the end DX

I think a Layton forum would be awesome- I know I'd join if one were made <3

I find it brilliant that they actually went through all the games, changing the spelling to English spellings before releasing the localised English version XD More games should do that =P

Oh, and did anyone else see that screenshot from PL & the Mask of Miracle in Nintendo magazine? The translation was terrible- I really hope they get that Engrish sorted out for the final version~

Key word here is "looks".

Also, Panda, my guess is that the Mask of Miracle announcement was actually intended for Japan, but since the 3DS was presented at an english-speaking event, they had to translate it... as well as they could. I mean, even the title's Engrish.

Ah, that's understandable if the translation had to be done in a hurry. My guess would be that the localised title will probably end up being Mask of Miracles~ Either way, from what I saw, the art's as gorgeous as ever <3

ALL YOUR PUZZLE ARE BELONG TO US

There's quite a brilliant moment in the film, where Luke attempts to talk to dogs, translated as such:
"Growr! Ruff! Woof! ...Professor! They can't understand me!"
Made even more hilarious if you forget Luke is meant to be able to communicate with animals and assume he's just become temporarily insane.

AAAAH NO WHY DID YOU HAVE TO POST THAT
:trauma:

It's that feckin' cross. I mean, the Queen's Escape I could barely scrape through but the CROSS just makes me want to curl up and die. I don't think I've ever been so pissed off at a group of pixels in my entire life.

Spoiler: Cue rant about slot puzzles; minorish spoilers for PL2
Although most of the time the sliding puzzles are rather out-of-the-way, some of them are just badly placed. The one I'm thinking of in particular is near the climax of Pandora's Box:

Anton has just kidnapped the two of you and you go through a mildly relevant puzzle to untie yourselves, when the game suddenly decides what would really be the best way to break flow and annoy players is to - TA DAH! - shove you into a completely unnecessary slot puzzle!

Maybe I'm just stupid (apparently the solution takes 28 moves -_-) but that one took me ages to solve, and IIRC you need to finish it to go on with the story. It's one of the only times in Layton when the puzzles really get in the way of the story (not counting the mysterious doors that only allow you in if you've solved so-and-so puzzles, as a True Gentleman should be doing).

Okay, rant over. I just have... bad memories of slot puzzles.

A separate Layton forum would be awesome. There are a couple of fansites scattered around, but I don't believe there's actually a forum (which is surprising, considering how popular it seems). I've always liked to speculate about the bit-part characters, myself: it's a bit sad how they don't really get much depth, and instead they're just like... well... robots for dispensing puzzles, I guess. XD

HAHAHAHAHAHA

The oddest thing happenned to me today.

On the bus stop, while I was waiting for the bus, I just realized I forgot a quarter for the fare.

I asked the man next to me for a quarter. Guess what he said.

"I'll let you have a quarter. But you have to deserve it."

So he just throws a random puzzle at me like the people from the Curious Village.

It was pretty easy.

"Two of the nearest suns to Earth are Proxima Centauri, 4.2 lightyears away, and Barnard's star, 5.9 lightyears away.

If Barnard's star is moving towards us at 12 miles per second and Proxima Centauri is moving away from us at 33 miles per second, after 100 lightyears,

What will be the nearest star to the Earth?

"Simple. The Sun." I said.

Oh look, an "Allegro version of the Puzzle theme".
It isn't bad at all, using the same music over and over would be kinda boring, especially when hearing it while staring at the puzzle for 30 minutes.

I kinda got used to it after listening to it after a while. A nice puzzle theme is something I can sleep to which I had actually done on multiple occasions including today where I slept after taking forever on the board splitter 1 puzzle (shut up, board splitter 2 is easier), then woke up and solved the puzzle.

It's Layton music, guys. There's no way around it. You just sit down and enjoy it.

I can't believe that in two weeks some of us might be playing this game... Nintendo and Level-5 really are spoiling us with these yearly releases that get announced just 3 months before launch.

Wow, I had completely forgotten about two weeks remain. Last thing I remember was months away. Seeing them release a game each year is quite satisfying, keeping us thinking and entertained each year.

Look out puzzles, cause I'm coming to solve them!

I prefer the older themes actually. Though PL4's theme is quite nice. It sounds like a combo of the first 3.

Oh yeah just over 2 weeks away from mo' Layton. :edgy:

That's actually PL4's. And in my opinion, it's nothing like the other 3. Puzzle themes should be much more cyclical than this, I believe.
All in all, not as good as the other 3 games', but works just fine. So far, I think the 3rd game's is the most fitting for a "puzzle-ish" theme, followed by the 1st and 2nd, tied (they are pretty much the same, anyway).
