First, PL3 and PL4 will be eventually localized, I'm sure of it. Rumors say Last Time Travel is on the works for release on mid-2010 worldwide.

Second, PL4 is "Layton-kyoju to Majin no Fue"/"Professor Layton and the Specter's Flute" (unofficial title). It has been released in Japan (November 26, 2009). Not only is there a PL4, but a PL5 has been announced too: "Layton-kyoju to Kiseki no Kamen" or "Professor Layton and the Mask of Miracles" (again, unofficial title).

Third, there is a Professor Layton animated movie, "Layton-kyoju to Eien no Utahime"/"Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva", which was released on December 19, 2009, obviously, in Japan. It is still unknown if it'll be released out of Japan.

I simply adore this game, and with the suggestion of a fan, I've decided to add as many Layton references as I can into ROTP. Something else to look forward to, I guess.

Well, thank you. I'm not sure how to react, but I can at least guarantee that there may also be some references to other popular games...we'll just have to wait and see.

Ah, I thought of doing this with RM, but with Monkey Island. Those games have some of the best quotes of all time.

Anyway, I still can't find a torrent of the movie, or the movie in any other format. I'll guess we'll have to wait for the DVD...

I'm hoping to throw in all kinds of references: I recall hearing quite a few great quotes from Monkey Island. I've already added in a Layton reference into the written script that will be sent out to the program team, so look forward to that :O *GASP*

Derp. I forgot about this thread. And yes, I am bored of waiting for the Last Time Travel. Particularly since it seems to have a lot of Paolo in it :/

I like Paolo, okay? >___>

But that papercraft is really really cool though. I'll have to try it sometime.

Also is there really nowhere /AT ALL/ where you can get good detailed info/reference art/ANYTHING for Professor Layton? I mean really, it was hard enough for me to find the soundtracks... *cough* I mean really. I've even found a very good, detailed, wonderful website dedicated to STARTROPICS (grantedthatgamehasbeeninexistenceforeverbuti'mtryingtomakeapoint). Oh well. At least the PL TV Tropes page seems to get some action.

The only reason I'm hyped for GDC 2010 is Last Time Travel. They announced Diabolical Box last year, so who knows? Maybe they'll announce LTT too, this year. After all, I read more than once that the game was on the works for release this year. With the excellent sales performance of Curious Village and Diabolical Box's not-so-excellent-but-very-good sales, it's kinda granted that they'll localize LTT.
Whatever, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

And yes, Paolo is awesome. But I'm looking forward to the prequel trilogy (PL4, 5 and 6) mostly because of the new awesome villain, Jean de Squall/Scole. I mean, no offense to Paolo, he's awesome like he is, but the Layton series needed a serious and cool villain like de Squall.
Wait, what if Paolo and Jean de Squall meet in PL5 or 6!? Oh, man, that'd be incredible.

Wouldn't that cause a plot hole though? I mean, Luke didn't recognize Paolo in Curious Village.

Bear with me, I haven't played Curious Village in an year :|
But now that you mention it, you're right.

That reminds me, as soon as my DSi arrives I'll have to replay Curious Village and play Diabolical Box.

Well, they could just be conspiring together behind the scenes or something. Layton and Luke wouldn't have to know.

Anyway, isn't there a new villain in Last Time Travel as well? Evil scientist dressed in white from trailers/future Layton?

So, has it been confirmed that he is NOT future Layton and is not meant to be, or is that spoilerish...?

Thanks, I found it on dA~

And no, it's not spoilerish. I think it says something like "a new villain - Alan Dimitri" when we see him in the trailer.

I don't think it would be that much of a plot hole. Paolo's just that Team Rocket kind of non-villain that could show up everyday and the main characters would just go, "who were you again?" Part of his charm is that nobody takes him as seriously as he wants.

Spoiler: PL3 Paolo
From what I can tell, it looks like he's been arching Layton since at least college. (Though maybe he just spent the last ten years or so quietly plotting.) Still, in Curious Village, Layton has only "heard the name around."

I think a more serious villain is what the series really needs, but not at the expense of Don Paolo. I'd love to see him make some kind of cameo appearance.

^ That gave me an idea.

What if Luke disappeared for a while in PL5 or 6 and Paolo briefly showed up when he was away? Because if I remember correctly, Layton did recognize him in Curious Village.

lol I love how Don Paolo's theme starts playing in Foobar.

I do admit that his charm lies in his lulz, particularly in a certain spoiler scene

Spoiler: rather ambiguous PL3 spoilers omg
"LAYTON I'LL HAVE MY REVENGE ON YOU!" *jumps into a lake*

Oh Paolo you silly boy.

I also agree that the series needs a more serious villain, but not too serious. The series is still rather lighthearted.

And I also admit that due to the lack of Paolo PL 4-6 seems less exciting to me, but hey, I'm sure I'll enjoy them nonetheless. I did love the Curious Village before Paolo came around anyway. :p

I haven't seen this mentioned since page 7 of the thread, way back before we even had an English Diabolical Box. I hope it's kosher to link again, since it's been bringing me a great deal of joy.

The Professor Layton Fan Meme

Like a Kink Meme, but not always as kinky. (Though there's plenty of that, too.) Mostly, though, it's completely hilarious. Reading through the prompts in the index has had me laughing to myself into the wee hours for several days in a row now.
