That's true. I'll give my turn to Pierre, and see what he does. In the meantime, I'm gonna take a shower.

Ah! I forgot! Since Ardan has his Heal staff equipped, he regains 5 HP each turn, so his HP is actually 11/21. Sorry about that.

No harm done in the end, Cold, though now we're waiting on Pierre, since Blak has decided to wait until after he's moved.

Hmm since when did heal staves do that? It's new to me but not unwelcome.

Well I guess I'll do my thing, step to the left and heal Lucius.

I'd advise Dorran covers my flank and decks the guy coming for me.

It's a feature from Radiant Dawn, Pierre. An equipped staff will have a certain effect. What that effect is depends on the staff. Anyway, that brings Lucius's HP up to 19/20. Also, now that Ardan has changed his position, Lucius gets a slightly better Support bonus. Blak, if you want the updated chart for Lucius's odds against Enemy 3, let me know.

It's worth pointing out that now that Lucius has been healed, he won't die if he attacks Enemy 3.

Enemy 3 takes 6 points of savagely passionate damage, leaving him with 2/20 HP. The counterattack hits, doing 9 points of monotonous damage, leaving Lucius with 10/20 HP.

Cold, it's your turn. I think I can guess what you plan on doing, but I want to be sure. If you want combat information before moving, just say the word.

Dorran hits, doing 9 points of damage and leaving Enemy 2 with 11/20 HP. Both counterattacks hit, doing 9 points of damage each, defeating Dorran.

It's the enemy's turn. I think it's safe to say you three are screwed at this point, but if you want to see how it goes, just say so.

Jade may well end up being this RP's Frederick, considering her starting stats. Also, with regards to everyone else's stats, I'm considering giving enemy units penalties to theirs to even the playing field in the next test battle. It's possible that this defeat was a result simply of the map giving you too little room to maneuver, but I'd like everyone's input before I make any changes to the second test battle's map and units. There were also a few bad moves that I saw being made, but I feel it's not really my place to tell you how to win a battle.

I'm willing to keep enemy stats the same if we tried maps with more strategy in mind. More choke points and such may have been better for us.

Okay, so since Blak asked, here's how the enemy's turn goes:

Enemy 2 attacks Ardan and gets a critical hit, defeating him. Enemy 3 attacks Lucius, hitting for 9 damage, but getting killed by Lucius's counterattack. Enemy 5 attacks Lucius and finishes him.

Also, as a side-note, the map for the second test battle is taken directly from a chapter in FE7 (don't worry; in the actual RP, the maps will be 100% custom). The enemy is more spread out, so you won't get swarmed the way you did here. I'll make sure not to make such small maps in the future unless there are choke points or a lot less enemies. I'm thinking we should wait on that map until we can have everyone together. That will give us a chance to see how Jade will fare in battle and figure out if the map was the main factor in the outcome of this test battle.

To be fair, a normal hit would have taken Ardan out, too.

Dorran's actually got pretty good Defense. However, he's slow enough that the enemy was able to get in two hits. In addition, the Soldier that took him out had an Iron Axe and enough Strength to offset Dorran's Defense advantage. Given enough levels and a friendly enough RNG, he'll probably end up becoming a decent physical tank.

yea...thinking about it, didn't i have the option to move after an attack? i forget...am i able to move, attack, and move with whatever i have left for movement? if so perhaps it would have been better for me to kill the enemy blak almost killed and then moved to defend pierre instead...what happened happened but would like to know for future reference.

also defenetly be a decent tank...just as long as I don't suddenly get swarmed by archers >_>;;;

Noooo! You guys lost?! Whyyyy?! *Ahem* Oh, well. Better luck next time. Once I get involved with Jade, enemies' butts will be kicked all over the place~ As long as I don't screw things up with my lack of strategizing skills, that is. XD.

That defeat was arguably more my fault than theirs; I didn't know how tough to make the enemies, not to mention the map gave the enemy an advantage right off the bat. I did see the party make a few moves that I wouldn't have made, but it's not my place to tell everyone how to fight. This is why I'm glad we decided to do some test battles first; it helps me learn just what I need to do as a level designer to make the fights winnable, yet sufficiently challenging that the players can't just coast through them.

Edit: Anyway, you know the drill, everyone. Please post what times you'll be available from now to the 8th. I imagine we'll be doing another Sunday test battle, but if we can get everyone together earlier than that, I'm certainly not going to complain.

I imagine that's doable. All we need to know now is DoMaya's situation. I sent him a PM yesterday telling him he needs to keep an eye on this thread again. Unless he's unable to make it, we should be able to start the second test battle this Sunday at 4:30 PM (6:30 PM on Lida's end, 12:30 AM Monday on Pierre's end).

Also, a question for everyone: do you want me to make the enemies in the second test battle weaker? The map's big enough that, in theory, you won't get swarmed the way you did in the first test battle.

As for whether or not to make the enemies weaker, I dunno. I'll leave that to the others to discuss. ^^
