I remember getting the costumes for free the first week the game came out, but I've never used them because they're so out of place. The cutscenes all show the characters in their normal clothes, and to be honest the only one I like the look of is OT Phoenix.

Anyone found any "story" rationale for putting them in?

I remember seeing a playthrough of the game where someone put Phoenix in his classic suit during 5-2 which kind of made sense, since he might not go buy a new suit and everything until after he got his badge back. If I remember correctly though the profile picture is still the "new hair" Phoenix, so that wouldn't work.

Apollo's alternate suit might work for case 3 or the DLC maybe? I don't remember it too well but it seems like he'd never wear that in court.

I can't find any way to justify Athena's or Phoenix's 3-1 costume.

I'd like to use them sometime because they're there, but every time I think about playing through it with them on I just feel like I'd rather use the originals, so I thought I'd see if anyone came up with a creative way to do it.
I used to have Sam Waterston as my avatar but photobucket added a watermark and also Law & Order has been cancelled for 10 years so it's time for me to move on.

I used Apollo's street clothes in 5-4/5-5.
I used Phoenix's nostalgia costume in 5-3 for teh lulz.
I used Athena's Sailor Fuku costume in 5-3 too.
And I used Phoenix classic costume in the DLC case, 5-2 and 5-3.

See, that's always what my thought process goes to (just doing it for fun, although I always end up wanting to just use the normal clothes). But I'd love to figure out a "story" reason why they'd suddenly be wearing different clothes. But I also think that's probably not possible. I might just not be the target audience of this concept, since I always end up wanting the "authentic experience" when I play.

Hey, I think most of the costumes I listed can make the story feel better.

Actually you're right, most of those "fit" to a certain extant. I think Phoenix's costume does really work in 5-2 at least, although the DLC case has some costumes with Vest Wright so that could get complicated. I think I'm asking too much of a really small side dlc, though (the costumes, not the case).

And? The cutscenes suck. :redd:
Seriously though, they only come on for a few seconds, usually. So who cares?

It's definitely not a big deal, I just thought it would be fun to try and find a way to have them all be included in a way that made sense and didn't "contradict" anything (Although I can't see how the Feenie costume could be used like that).

It's kind of like a couple years ago I spent a great deal of time and effort trying to figure out how the manga could work with canon, which meant doing weird things like splitting volumes up, placing them in weird space, etc. It all amounted to nothing real important, it was just fun.

It's mostly because I'm working on an essay and am procrastinating.

considering I just finished my essay 5 minutes ago I think I'm in the top tier of procrastinators.

I'll probably try out using Phoenix's OT costume during 5-2 and Apollo's during the DLC case since he doesn't have much to do there.

seeing Phoenix's classic costume kind of makes me wish he didn't have that weird hair thing

Is Apollo still in the bandages and coat in 5-1/5-4/5-5? Like, does the alt costume lie under the bandages or replace it completely? Cause in that case, those who are playing through the game the first time can't use the alt costumes at all

I tried doing this during the first case. Apollo still wears his bandages/ coat getup though (with his regular suit on underneath). I'd try the later cases, but I have to replay the game due to losing my save files.

I think Apollo's street clothes work pretty well during investigations. Don't see any reason why they need to dress so formally there. It looks casual enough that it works.

So that that way witnesses think they're defense attorneys?
I mean, he doesn't want to get annoyed by someone like Athena was...

Eh perhaps. Klavier dresses casually enough so I assumed there wasn't a dress code on the whole thing.

First time I played the game I had Phoenix and Apollo wear their alts during the DLC case and Athena wear hers during case 3.

On the subsequent playthrough, I changed Athena's so she'd only wear hers on the second part of case 3 (I made up the storyline reason that she was given a uniform as a gift for visiting the school and decided to wear it for the rest of the case; I went into the case originally thinking she was a graduate of Themis before moving to Europe so I had believed she had the uniform from before, hence why I had her wear it all the way through on the first run). I think I also had Apollo wear his casual outfit during the out-of-court segments of case 3 as well.

Storyline justification or not, having Athena wear the Themis uniform during her posing segment in case 3 is adorable, though.

I've never used the "Fenie" sweater at all. Too weird.

Was that a pre-order bonus or something? Just curious because I only have the alternative costumes DLC for the iOS version of Dual Destinies and the sweater isn't one of them. :think-pw:

For Apollo's outfit: When he's all bandaged up, he wears his regular red suit, but in the beginning of 5-4 when he wears just the eyepatch, you can change his outfit.
