Time for a time-honored C-R tradition. The trouble with trying to find out something about a game like Ace Attorney is that you can't just wander into a thread and start looking, lest you hit a wall of spoilers. So what do you do?

Well, you come here. This thread can be used to ask any question about DGS, and someone who has it will do their best to answer you. Answers will be properly spoiler tagged, of course.

As for questions, use your own judgment when it comes to spoiler tags - asking "how's the Judge's voice" doesn't need a spoiler tag. Asking "I saw a video of character Y killing victim X, why did Y do that" does.

Ask away!

Are joint reasoning and convincing the jury fun gameplay elements?

Cesar, tag your post :/

How many cases are there? Is it 4? If it's 5, are they five full cases or is it more like DD with one case being split into two? Or is it like T&T where Case 4 isn't a full case?

Any Case DLC announced?

Post subject:  Re: "I just want to know one thing" - DGS edition

Sorry, forgot that was only announced in a review an not an official thing.

Does anyone other than the Payne Ancestor and the main prosecutor prosecute a case in this game?

Are the investigations less linear than they were in DD? Like you can investigate stuff you don't need to?

How connected are the cases in this game story-wise?

I think the DLC is like the PLvsAA ones, with art, music and short story downloads, only they're paid and not free.

The first one is free. It's released today.

Apparently, I answered my own question: the backlog now includes shout bubbles. <- very important :3

Spoiler: Episode count
According to JP walkthrough sites, there are 5 cases, but cases 4 and 5 are a pretty decent length and deal with separate incidents.

In the little I've played, the investigations feel more free. You still get shuttled around a bit, but for case two all of the areas were examinable. Susato will give hints in the "move" menu if there's still something to do at a location, or if you need to go there to trigger an event.

My question is, how is the gameplay in trials, because Dual Destinies had the "too much dialogue, not enough testimonies" problem.

Post subject:  Re: "I just want to know one thing" - DGS edition

As of the first case, I'd say there is plenty of testimony to deal with. (That is, the case is so freakin' long that I kinda hoped things wouldn't keep dragging on.) The pace is pretty consistent, so it's no hassle.

Yes.

One witness yells "SHUT UP!" (in English!)

Could be others down the line.

Well, I guess my questions need some time, because they can only be answered by people who have played through the game (unless the info is available in some walkthroughs).

Anyway the questions I always ask for each new AA game:
1.) How many Cross Examinations are in the game? If possible provide the answer for each case.
2.) How many different pieces of evidence are in each case?
3.) How many different profiles do you get in each case?

I've only played the demo. But I presume the final game is graphically identical. Both the 3D and the graphical style are similar to GS vs Layton. If you liked that, you'll like this.

I'm personally not a fan of the 3D effect on 3DS games, so I'm gonna wait and hope that an iOS version comes out. (I would much rather play on a HD display so that I can actually see the kanji without squinting.)

Question: Do Ryunosuke and Susato have good chemistry? I always liked the banter between Mayoi and Naruhodo in AA1~3. While I enjoyed the cases in AA4+5, the protagonists themselves had virtually no chemistry.

I really hope there's another ladder I can examine later. I've only began this case so far...

I believe their interactions quite remind me of Mayoi and Naruhodo, considering. Susato may not be as childish or whimsical as Mayoi, but she shares Mayoi's love of beating up a "Naruhodo-kun". She's also a lot more stern like Mia, especially when Ryu messes up in court or during a joint reasoning segment. (She's most stern with him during case 2, for certain plot-related reasons...)

That said, once anyone brings up Sherlock Holmes' brilliance or the Strand Magazine, she goes full fangirl and becomes just a little desperate, to Ryu's constant annoyance. At one point, she dared to get locked up just so she can ride a carriage of the Yard. Thankfully, Ryu was there to stop her.

The case 1 victim was John Watson, remember? That was the quote on quote "real Watson", and then Iris Watson comes along later. They didn't "replace him". As for why they killed off John, I have no actual evidence to support why.

First of all, Calm the heck down. You're screaming like as if it's something that people never should've done. Besides, it's a Japanese game we're talking about, mac. Besides, I think if they would've put Dr. Watson in it, It would've been a Copyright Infringement? I dunno.

Mr. Blidzi-Dude? I was talking about CapCom and Shuu Takumi going after the idea and may break copyright..? :damon:

But other than that, he seems to be exaggrating to it. He should've understood the fact already that it's a JAPANESE GAME. And in Japanese Games, Female Characters will appear. Even if they're loli/whatever or not supposed to be appearing~~

??? I actually quite liked Iris's role in the game, but all that aside, Blizdi is right. The Sherlock stories are public domain almost all over the world (a few stories aren't public domain in the US, I think). That means that they could have used any character from the stories they wanted to and not have to pay a dime. Takumi simply didn't put in Watson because he had other ideas.

A Question on Watson:
Spoiler: BIG Ending Spoilers!
Because John Watson's one of those 4 names that is a password. What is up with that? Was that hinted at at all during the game, or just some "WOAH!" moment after the last case? (I only saw the final part of the Case 5 livestream. I know the beginning of DGS, the end and nothing in-between :meekins: )

Correction about that ending detail:

Spoiler: Ending spoilers
The names aren't passwords, they were just encrypted. I was tired and got the kanji for the two mixed up.

How long did you stay up, Bolt? Since I didn't get a chance to return to my game until past midnight, I just took the chance to stay up... finished it in about 5 hours; was halfway into the court segment of the last case, though. I felt this trial was even longer than the last one from PLvsAA... except, it wasn't interrupted by some drama.

And I just need to confirm this... Did anyone else who played the game find where to look for an examinable ladder? This point will bother me to no end until I find out.

I think no one has asked this but, we all feared Sherlock would actually be somewhat of a myth when speaking of the Sherlock we all know, and that in fact we would get someone who is actually very careless, jumps way too son on conclusions and actually makes a lot of mistakes in their reasoning. From a gameplay standpoint, that'd be the adequate thing to have, but is that actually true?

My question is, does Sherlock actually appear to be competent in a higher sense than the rest of the series' logic rivals? Does he reach interesting conclusions by himself? How does Ryuunosuke know what parts of Sherlocks' reasoning are shakey? Is it because the reasoning is ridiculous, because Ryuunosuke wants to find another conclusion/can't believe it and that point clashes with his thoughts, or is he just actually smarter than Holmes' himself even though the reasoning is completely valid?

I think that's the point. It wouldn't be much of an AA game if Sherlock Holmes just takes over the entire investigation. Besides, I wouldn't say Holmes is truly an idiot; more like he's just fond of being stupid... in the lovable way.
