I don't know. I mean, I love Fran, but I'm gonna try and look at this with a completely open mind.
We don't know what happened to Manfred during his childhood. He could have - almost certainly was, any psychological test would say so - abused by his parents, probably his father. The cruelty, obsession with perfection and coldheartedness isn't normal, so there's no way that he doesn't have some deep emotional scarring that isn't his fault.
...I don't know. I think it's very interesting, though.

Great point Dannichu, this kind of behavior isn't spontaneous, the "perfect obsession" normally comes when a child is heavily scolded for making a mistake, by the family or public shame. Since Manfred is a person that did hide a bullet on his own arm to avoid mistakes, maybe we'll never hear about what happened, Franziska neither because his arrogance is what's important.
Poor Franziska just learned it from her father, and became a reflection of his frustrations.
