though it says more literate than Nick would've put it x] but still great nevertheless :P and lol, Ash and Misty...that scene when they went their separate ways was so cute (I remember something about a fork 
though I don't remember what actually happened...and I'm a big Pokemon fan x]...shame on me D: and it's the only scene in the Pokemon series where there's actually signs of romantic relationships *besides Brock and his many many crushes*) I agree with you though (don't we all? xD), Nick and Maya do show care towards each other, even if it's only like a "sister-brother thing"; it can turn into a romantic relationship anytime xD. And I think they didn't mention Maya in GS4 (aka AJ xD) because they didn't want the new players to be confused or whatnot. If Nick mentioned Maya instead of "a kid" then there'll be a long explanation to who Maya was to Apollo (which the people who played the first three games won't mind but to new people who only started to play AJ and not PW, then it would just be a waste of time explaining someone who is not connected to the case)

Innocent: I know it's a bit more elaborate than what Nick would have normally done. But it was done on purpose -- you wouldn't write a love letter in the same words you use for your everyday conversations with your pals, no matter the circumstances. And besides, hey, the guy is a freaking ex-lawyer, he's SUPPOSED to know all these elegant-sounding words and stuff. =p
Plus, not only is it a VERY important letter to him, it's a letter to the woman he loves. How can you NOT be picky with your words, in order to impress them and melt their hearts with poetic allusions? =p

The Ash/Misty goodbye scene and her song in the "Gotta Catch Ya Later" episode was so sweet *sniff* :( I'm sure they would have kissed if Brock hadnt interrupted them :D
Misty gave Ash a handkerchief and Brock gave him a knife and fork IIRC.

True. I don't think Maya ever says anything to indicate that she doesn't have some form of secret/unadmitted attraction or crush on Nick. She gets embarrassed by Pearl but doesn't actually deny it. Pearl's slightly warped idea must be based on some grain of truth otherwise why would the writers introduce such an element, and make it continue repeatedly. Alone I'd let it slide, but along with all the other allusions we get, it stacks up.
Also, the scene in 3-2 doesn't even say 'Pearl has the wrong idea about our romantic relationship', it just says 'Pearl has the wrong idea about us' and Pearl's idea of what fairytale should happen between them is insane, as she gets upset over taking a case that Maya doesn't mind about. Also, without this scene, the writers obviously feared Phoenix would have looked really bad in the beginning of 3-5.

In 2-4 he says "the person closest to me", you can be close to a person without fancying them. He doesnt say "the girl I love.. huh?"
But I find it easy to think of such a close friendship becoming romantic later on.

Well, in all honesty, I was thinking of that letter this way: Nick would get to visit Maya's household, and slightly "hide" the letter in a place he'd know (or suppose) she doesn't search much, but has to look for something there eventually. So it's a matter of luck, fate and a little faith for her to find it....Hmm, a thought just occurred to me. Icer, you're a fantastic writer, and female, which is perfect for my evil purposes. How about you write a continuation to that letter, playing on the fact that Maya did find it, and is responding to it? I'd do it, but as potentially good a writer as I may be (or so you guys say =p ), only women can know, express and describe what the female heart is capable of feeling and doing for their loved ones. =)

Write more! I never wrote fanfic before this game. Let's hope somebody else doesn't find the letter.
Hmm, were you thinking of Maya responding in a letter, or in person in a fic? Problem is, it's harder to write Maya, since we never get in her head, and we don't know that much about her older self... but I guess I can see if anything springs to mind.

In seriousness, I have a feeling they've been at least in regular contact. He has to send her his Steel Samurai reports, after all. It seems to me that they'd visit each other often. Maya and Pearl would have wanted to meet Trucy, and they probably helped Nick take care of her.

I like to believe that shortly after the disbarring incident, Phoenix asked Maya if he and Trucy could stay at her place until he got himself sorted out, and they end up living there for a number of years. Trucy goes to school with Pearl, Phoenix gets himself a job at a farm (I think most of the males in or around Kurain work in agriculture for some reason) and he helps Maya out with her duties as Master, the two getting closer to each other. Then Phoenix has to return to the city to start his investigation of Kristoph, but he promises to stay in close contact with Maya. And Maya gives him her magatama to make sure he keeps it.

It's been mentioned also that Trucy has recently changed school and just made friends.
Also, they mention that no money for Phoenix = they gotta move again and new school for Trucy.
Apparently, Phoenix had to pay the bills while he lives in the city, but probably not if he stays with Maya, so it explains it.
Thank you for this idea, I didn't think of this before :)
The only question is, why doesn't Trucy ever mention Maya or Pearl to Apollo? Maybe Phoenix told her not to do?

No, I don't think Nick and Maya would go THAT far..She's just so..innocent.
But I DO think they have kissed. At least once. Love is not that 'UUHH, FIRST SIGHT..' stuff. Might happen, maybe she thought he was cute from the very beginning. But in the 7/8 years gap, if you continue with Toby Danger's opinion, when he lived in Kurain, they might have fallen in love. Maybe she thought he was the closest friend (and more) she ever had, and this helped her to fall in love?

Because if Phoenix lived in Kurain, then it would mean 2 hours traveling there, 2 hours traveling back.
Not as if that was impossible, by 2019 who knows what other kinds of things we can do while waiting on trains.
Maybe he watched Steel Samurai on a laptop or whatever.
Or wait... what about Trucy being with Phoenix at the poker matches?

I like this idea... the main problem I see with it is that they emphasise about Phoenix playing those poker games for the last 7 years and Never. Lost. Once. Though I suppose it's not like he had to play every night or whatever. Maybe he started out doing it once a month or something, before he built his 'reputation'. But the fact he'd have been paying the rent for his office while he's in Kurain is another problem with this idea.
Maya would have invited him to live at Kurain after he was disbarred though. I see this in any scenario, ship them or not.
Unfortunately, I think the thing about Trucy's new school is just indicating Phoenix's declining finances. Though we can conveniently take it to mean otherwise.
I can imagine Phoenix telling Trucy not to mention Maya to Apollo. In case 4-2 especially, it's like she's kind of given the task of watching him in Phoenix's absence. And Phoenix quite justifiably doesn't trust Apollo much until he has to in 4-4.

In my "headcanon" they are in relationship, but much like between 1-4 and 2-2 they had to... be away from each other for investigating Kristoph and Phoenix doing his "secret mission".
The "secret mission" itself can be taken as indication that he keeps contact with Maya and Edgey.
Or even if they don't live together, they can meet every few days or weeks. Maya is busy with her master duties in Kurain, and Phoenix is busy with his investigation (and Trucy) in the city. But it doesn't mean that they don't meet regularly, and given Phoenix and Maya's personality, it's easy to assume that even if they don't live together, they are in love. Both are the loyal type.
About Apollo and Trucy... Trucy probably knows Maya and Pearl, she just doesn't tell about them to Apollo. Maybe for not trusting him, and Maya and pearl being irrelevant to all their cases. I mean she didn't tell Apollo even about her real family either until they met Valant.
Phoenix obviously didn't trust Apollo until the end of the case. I mean, in 4-2 they just met. Apollo saw the pile of DVDs, and Phoenix became embarrassed. What could he have said to an almost-stranger? That those "kid shows" were sent by his lover who is also a master of the Kurain Channeling Technique? Imagine Apollo's response to that.
I could use my perceiving skills and examine Phoenix's sprites at everything he said, but it's needless.
Regarding the flashback case, it's easy to assume that Maya was doing intensive training that time, given she just became the new master, so she was probably away for a few months. Phoenix did the special course with Maya once, but I doubt he wanted to repeat that :)
So until they clearly state something like "Phoenix and Maya haven't met in 7 years", "Maya is dead" or "Maya began to hate Nick after being a hobo" (and if it was the case, I'd slaughter the writers
:), I will believe in them being in a close relationship, and I'll ship them, as my favorite pairing.(Why do I always end up posting something this long when it comes to Phoenix and Maya?)
