Not the best way to get someone to get feelings for you

I'd do it for any of my good friends actually Especially considering the pretense from Larry that made it sound like Phoenix was on his deathbed

There's some merit to the possibility that Edgeworth is able to compartmentalize in ways that other people wouldn't. The idea of being attracted to someone whose a suspect in a murder investigation would be so anti-ethical to his professional ethics that it wouldn't even cross his mind. It would also fit the fact that many people take such barriers extraordinarily seriously.
And yes, I think its very realistic that Edgeworth would fly halfway around the world for a childhood friend that he owes so very much. The first reason being that Edgeworth has money to burn, apparently. My guess is that his father was blessed with some moolah in addition to his own personal high salary (As Chief Prosecutor in Los Angeles/Tokyo, that's got to be some serious cash)
But if nothing else, Edgeworth owes Feenie for clearing him of his believed guilt for killing his father.
Personally, I go with the idea that Edgeworth is just horribly horribly anal and devoted to his work.

Which is another way PW is different from RL court. In RL, if the facts make it look like the defendant hasn't done it, the police WILL usually try to help out at least a bit. It's just like that in the PW universe to make the game harder

IRL, at least in the United States, the burden of proof falls on the prosecution. In Gyakuten Saiban the burden seems to fall on the defense attorneys. The judge defaults to proving your client guilty if you can't prove them innocent. It's supposed to be the other way around.
Do remember Gyakuten Saiban originally took place in Japan. While I do not consider myself a leading authority on Japanese sociopolotics, I do know that the government is given more authority than in the United States, at least insofar as law courts are concerned. This is also why Phoenix not even having a driver's license at the age of 25 makes so much sense--in Japan, very few people get drivers' licenses, as they are ludicrously expensive and public transportation makes having a car somewhat useless for the majority of people. He was the norm rather than the exception, as he would be in Los Angeles.

For some reason I now imagine Castlevania Girl to be a von Karma, maybe she is Manfred's sister's kid? He did mention he had a niece. If that were true then maybe she follows Miles around in order to learn to be a prosecutor.

Even if I don't learn the language in time, I'll probably end up importing the game for the sake of having it. It's the principle of the matter, really: the mindset of a fan. Besides, the two main characters = my OTP. I'll probably end up lovingly caressing the packaging. :|
