I see!

IT MUST BE LOVE, THEN.

Y'know... because they exchange so much thrilling, emotionally charged dialogue during... wait... they don't ever meet.

But they're both southern, so it's A-okay!

But Jake isn't really from Texas. I'm pretty sure they don't give a reason as to why he acts like he does. And them both being southern doesn't affect their relationship in any way. They've never even met. Saying that two people from the south belong together simply because they're from the south is like saying two people from Washington belong together simply because they're from Washington. Sorry about the run-on sentence.

Who ever said Lotta was interested in cowboys? :/ If I had been born in the south I wouldn't magically become interested in cowboys. I'm on a quick vacation to Kentucky right now and I didn't magically acquire a love for the wild west :/
Personally, I think she'd get annoyed at his cryptic, laid-back nature...although they might actually be fun friends now that I think about it. Romance is much to intimate a thing to decide based on "LOL SOUTH", though :/

.....And can someone please explain to me why I'm bothering typing up several sentences debating a CRACK pairing? Not that crack pairings are bad but...they aren't mean to be debated >>;

@Mori: As much as I respect you...seriously...

You're talking about a time when it was everywhere. You couldn't go a page on the Livejournal page without bumping into one. Hell, the smut community was pretty much composed entirely of Yaoi. Do a search on DeviantArt, the first thing that will pop up is a Phoenix/Edgeworth pic (and it's not the only one). It's the only pairing to have a fanlisting linked here (if there are fanlistings for other pairings out there, I'd like to know...) and a good portion of the links are dedicated to the pairing here. And yet still, people post new works dedicated to the pairing (albeit not as much as before)

Personally, I see this trend in increasing het fans as balancing things out. That said, you've still got things pretty good, so just chill out...

In LJ, I've been seeing a bunch of Matt/Juan or Will/anyone stuff, lately.
And I cannot go around the fandom without bumping into someone who IS whining and moaning about the damned pairing. Which was just as common and occurring as the gay lawyers, itself.
but I see your point and I can't blame them for it, entirely... *shifty eyes* But that's not the point..

Yeah. Hence "WAS" everywhere. That was the point I was getting at. Sorry if I came off as negative. :sadshoe:

Granted, yes, it is good to see it balance it out now that there's some more het. *nods in agreement*

..maybe there'll be less to complain about.... Which was also the main point I was getting at.
I have a bad habit for wording things wrong, as you can see. So I apologize, pal. =P

Some of us are just very slow writers. (And we write very long chapters) :sal:

As for the trend, I still don't understand how having a lot of one thing is particularly oppressive. Especially since the PW fandom as a whole has always been open to different pairings--it's not as thought het wasn't cheered on and encouraged. Just because P/E fans were writing and everyone else wasn't doesn't make that the fault of the P/E fans.

I've seen lots of posts saying why phoenix & maya shouldn't be together. I'm saying why they SHOULD.

1) In the case 4 of JFA phoenix says maya is the person closest to him. Note that he didn't say edgeworth, larry, lana, ema, mia, or whoever else.He said MAYA.

2)They always quickly deny it/get embarrased when pearl says they're a couple. Yea, I know about pearl in GS3, but my point isn't the things pearl says, its that they get embarrased and flustered. And I know from personal experience that you only get embarassed when it's someone you like.

3) This is the only kissing smily, and guess who it's of? :kissy:

4) They've spent the most time together out of everyone during P.W 1 and 2. They're like best friends, and best friends always end up together. Always.

5) They're :guilty: of being super adorable together!!! :pearl:

I have a thousand more reasons but my fingers are sore :gymshoe: I'm a really bad debater but it's easy to think of reasons for these two. Go on, if you support another pairing, try to tear apart my reasons. I welcome it. :larry2:

I'm going to beat you both to the punch, as much as I support the pairing and think the two should be together...

1. Okay, Funk and Mu, you can debate the first point.

2. Yeah, it's possible. Then again, they could just be denying it because they truthfully don't see each other in that way. Wouldn't you quickly deny it if someone kept pestering you about being in love with someone you're not.

3. I fail to see how this makes them a couple. I mean we also have a smilie of Phoenix and Edgeworth clinking beer glasses. Don't see them off at bars knocking back cold ones in the game do we?

4. Okay, if you come from that school of thought, but that same logic can be used to justify Phoenix/Edgeworth or Phoenix/Larry.

5. ...you guys can have this one too....

As for why no one supports Phoenix/Maya: I do. What are you talking about?

1) Closest to him could also mean in a platonic way. Are you going to automatically jump on it and assume it's in a "love/ramantic" kind of way? It all depends on the person's perspective. My brother and sister are closer to me than my friends, and probably the closest to me than anyone. Does this mean I love them in a romantic way?

2) I don't know.. Phoenix seemed pretty calm when he denied it... Blushing, probably so. Because it came out of nowhere. I'd be blinking and going "WTH" too if someone thought me and my friend were a couple, when.... It might not be true.

3) Like CI said, I don't understand how smilies make them a couple. It's merely for the P/M fans that was MADE by a P/M fan. That must mean Phoenix/Edgeworth could be a couple too, since they have a smilie together as well! *gasp* Only not really. -_-

4) ....Always? Then does that mean me and any of my friends are going to get together? Does this mean me and CI should be an OTP? =P

5) That's a matter of opinion, as well. I personally don't see Phoenix/Maya ever being taken seriously like my favorite pairings, but that's just me. And I think Franziska is WAY cuter than Maya. So....

There ARE Phoenix/Maya fans. You're just new and haven't been in the forums long enough. So no need to generalize so soon.

I AM new to this website, but not forums or ff.net. I've been on them since P.W came out, and most of the fanfics and supporters are for edgeworth/phoenix and maya/phoenix supporters are scarce. I've looked through ALL the fanfics of phoenix wright (which is about 400 altogether) in all the fansites i know of and in total, I found about.....30 maya/phoenix fics, and half of them are unreadable coz of bad spelling and grammar. and im not exaggerating.

When I said best friends always go together, I meant on shows and movies, and since phoenix wright is based on story...

I just posted some of the reasons up there coz there were so many posts saying why phoenix and maya shouldn't be together...maybe not so much on this website, but on others, there are LOADS. you can check if you don't believe me. i put in the smiley thing coz it was cute :zap: like this one! no, wait, that ones freaky...

anyway i just want to know why so many of you like edgeworthxphoenix coz i dont see why...

Some people somewhere else (so SPECIFIC) were talking about how P/E was basiclly canon? Huh? (Donno if they were being completely, utterly serious, shrug) I have nothing aginst the pairing but I wonder how it's "nearly canon". Shrug.

A romance between Phoenix and Edgeworth is not canon, and never will be (just as a romance between Phoenix and Maya is not canon, and never will be).

What IS canon, however, is that Phoenix Wright and Miles Edgeworth have an incredibly dynamic and fierce relationship with one another as friends, counterparts, half-partners-half-rivals. Edgeworth has had an enormous influence on Phoenix's life, as Phoenix has had an enormous influence on Edgeworth's. It's very passionate in its own way, with both of them pushing the other to excel, and trusting in the other completely while in the court to ensure the truth will come out.

that IS canon.

And from there, fans make the not-all-that-large leap from "dynamic, fierce relationship" to "romance."

He said Maya was the person closest to him, because Maya IS the person closest to him. This doesn't necessarily equate to romance. The people closest to me include my mother and my best friend. I'm not in a hurry to shack up with either of them.

In addition, when he says this, note that this doesn't hit Phoenix as a surprise, or a revelation. It comes naturally. He's completely comfortable with that label. He KNOWS what Maya is to him, and based on his lack of action or romantic thought or anything, it's not "romantic partner". Nothing romantic develops between Phoenix and Maya post-2-4. Their relationship doesn't change, Phoenix's feelings for Maya don't change, and there was no tension to begin with.

One more thing. Remember Phoenix's internal montage at the end of 1-5? All of the people important to him? One person got special prominence amongst everyone else there. Hint: it wasn't Maya. If "person closest to me" is automatically assumed to carry romantic connotations, why doesn't that?

They're shocked and astonished at first, but in the last case of JfA, Phoenix very calmly tries to tell Pearl that there's nothing between he and Maya. Additionally, GS3, which has been covered. Additionally, GS1, in which Larry makes the same assumption and Maya is completely calm in laughing it off.

This isn't true, either. For a well-known example, take Harry Potter. Harry didn't end up with either of his best friends. James and Sirius were best friends; they didn't end up together. Lily and her best friend didn't end up together. You could list dozens of other examples, even from other video games. In Final Fantasy, Cloud didn't wind up paired with his best friend, Zack. Chrono Trigger; Crono didn't end up with his best friend, Lucca.

And so on and so forth. Who's paying for the wedding?
