Building up on that, Iris or Ayame (the flower) not just representing lost love, or grief but it also symbolise faith, hope and wisdom. Some particular iris colours also represent many other emotions as well such as purple iris symbolise royalty whilst yellow iris symbolise passion and drive. Also, white or cool coloured iris = the last symbolism for winter. It is also the alternative birth flower for February so I'm assuming she could be born in February given her name is the flower for that month...
EDIT: Looking up on what the colour purple does on Iris, it actually means compliment as well. So she compliments Phoenix. How's taht food for though :P

You know ever since the nurse idea came up in the thread, I can't decide whether she would be better off being a teacher or a nurse. Both jobs are rewarding in their own ways and I think she could be happy with either, but I'm not sure which is better for her in the long run. I'm still leaning towards teacher because I think that Iris would value her role as Trucy's adoptive mother very highly (since this thread is for the pairing, I'm running under the assumption that they're a couple or are at least very, very close. This can be taken out of that context as well and I think the relationship would only be altered a bit. She still clearly cares for Phoenix in 3-5 and would probably care for his daughter a great deal as well. Even as just a friend, I think she would still want to help Phoenix with raising Trucy particularly since he's doing so alone, so I think their well-being would enter into her decision making) and being a nurse would likely keep her away longer. A school teacher would work during those hours that Trucy was in school and Phoenix at work, so she could be an active part of their lives easily (except for times when she had to stay after to help a student, but that wouldn't really be that big a problem in my opinion because it likely wouldn't be a constant particularly if she worked in the lower grades and I do see Iris being very good with young children).
Depending on the situation, nurses are sometimes on call and their hours often aren't as set as a teachers which would also interfere with her ability to see Maya and Pearl as she might not be able to get to Kurain very often (the distance from the city could be a problem for Iris in that situation although if they came to visit often enough that might become a non-issue although being the Kurain Master is a demanding job according to the game so I would think Maya at least would be very busy). Still she could apply those talents outside of her job as well by taking care of her loved ones when they were ill and I do think she would get a large amount of joy from helping people get better, but I think she would also enjoy helping children learn. The reason I'm including the issue of how Iris's occupation would effect those she cares about in my thinking is because I think she would take those kind of things into consideration before making a decision. She is an immensely caring person and would never make a decision carelessly that could hurt her loved ones. More then that, I think that her own happiness would suffer if they were in pain or if she had to be away from them. Am I alone in thinking that Iris would likely be very family oriented? O_o That's just my reading of her character.

And now, I say: Mia_Fey made a valid point on Iris' decision on careers to take. As much as it fits her as a nurse, it's too demanding for her to be able to spend more time with family(I know because I took it up once), and I'm sure she's very much family-oriented. I mean, look at the way she compared Sister Bikini to being a mother, and how she wouldn't hate Dahlia for all the terrible things she's done! I think she really wouldn't want to have to separate work from family, because.......I think it could ruin the happiness.....

And I suppose, I could see Miles for a boy. Although, while there is no doubt that Edgeworth is a very important person in Phoenix's life, I'm not sure I can see Phoenix naming his child for Edgeworth. I'm just not sure that he's had enough influence on Phoenix's life to warrant having a child named to honor him
