do you guys always notice how there's always a moment of silence everytime the game switches music? whenever a new piece of music is about to play, there's always a moment of silence before the new song starts. like, for example, the suspense music would play and then a moment of silence would end the suspense music and the cornered music would play after that moment of silence. why cant the game switch the theme music right after the last music ends?

It could be the cart limitations. It could also be that they intentionally programmed it like that. Or possibly, each song starts with a moment of silence, so technically that moment of silence would be part of the song.

yes, but the songs begins right away after you press the a button at a certain time. there's dialogue that comes with music, and dialogue that come with no music. you've always gotta rush through several dialogue with no music to get to the next song. by rush, i mean tap the fast forward button really fast

so here's the analogy

suspense dialogue>press a button>cornered dialogue
you wont get this

suspense dialogue> press a button > silent dialogue > press a button > cornered dialogue
this is what you have to do

ergo, you'll be pressing the a button multiple times simply to get to the next theme song

The silence is only the short half a second intro to each song. It's not that much of a problem, it's not like that you have to wait half an hour until the music comes on.

argh, my brain hurts from trying to explain. after a song ends, you must scroll through 2 or 3 pages of silent dialouge before you get to the next song. i have a feeling that i'm going to get brain cancer if i try to explain anything more

its not always like that, or at least I dont notice it. If I dont notice it, then I assumed that it was part of the game itself.

*cough* Then don't, 'cause you're making me feel like an idiotic drooling baby. Okay, so you click the A button two or three more times. So?

Umm, yeah. It isn't cart limitations. It's this little thing called suspense.

They programmed it so there wasn't any dialogue on that music.

Sometimes, the best background music is having no background music at all.

It's deliberate. Kinda hard not to see how you could miss that...music is used as a climactic flourish - the added silence is the calm before the storm and is used JUST as effectively as the music itself.

Study some drama and general movie feedback techniques...it's standard fare, really. =D

If you use a casemaker and switch songs suddenly... unless the song has the right intro, like the super cornered music (don't know what its called) in T&T, it doesn't sound to hot. IMHO

It's Cornered ~ Variation. Each GS has a cornered and a cornered ~ variation.

(but Cornered ~ Variation 2001 is totally the best :P Especially the Cadenza remix)

I think the music thing is set like this, A song plays at a certain text block, but when it changes, it waits for a certain word to pop up expecting you to read to that line when the music kicks in, and for the rush reading, since your skipping through text so fast the game has to play catch up and match where you are with the song that should be playing, I could be very wrong but thats what i think there doing with that.

The DS doesn't have any limitation that prevents gapless playback.

Run the soundbox in Castlevania or in the Gyakuten Jiten. When you change tracks in the Jiten, they're gapless. When you run soundclips in Castlevania, they're gapless. When you change tracks in Castlevania, there's a major gap. It's not a hardware issue. It's called programming.

The only hardware issues I have about the DS is the design. The rest of the issues are all software.

I really have no idea, but if I had to guess I would say it's the Gyakuten Saiban Encyclopedia (that was released in Japan with GS4 or something....)

Porter won't go down!

Maybe you should notice the effect it provides, as it is what it's used for. A notable time is in 3-5, Larry presents the picture, and there's silence as the others are scared of what to say, then Core plays. Purely for effect.

Actually, GS4 has no cornered variation.
It's not even called Cornered in the soundtrack, but Overtaken (which is the same sort of thing anyway... why do they have to change it?)

Actually it did, but it almost never played. It only appeared in 4-2 and 4-3 I believe.>_>

The music falling silent is also your cue that you've presented the right piece of evidence. (i, uh, use this whenever I'm totally stuck) It sets up the dramatic reveal of what the evidence means. Then, when the witness realizes their lie has been exposed, the music kicks into full gear.

I also use this. If I present and the music stops, I know I did the right thing. If it keeps going, I power down and try again.

Guess the silence is used to show progression.

It's silent when you show the right piece of evidence because they want to play the objection theme when the witness is freaking out, not during the witty banter.
