Sorry if this topic was done before...

But does anyone else see a lot of similarities between Trauma Center and the Ace Attorney series? I mean, both games are soley on Nintendo systems and started on the handheld systems. They are also exaggerated simulations of real life jobs. The main character of both are brown haired, brown eyed rookies and you guide them through thier first real times on the job. Heck, Derek and Phoenix are only a couple years apart in age. And both game's timeline starts in the near future, Trauma Center is year 2018, PW is in 2016.

Both games had remakes of their first game put on a more advanced system and with added episodes. Both have full frontal body shots of the characters with their dialogue, and only a few samples of actual voice work. Both use anime style drawings to depict everything. And even with the new Trauma Center sequal confirmed, they both have new main characters used.

I know there was more in my head while I was thinking about this, but yeah does anyone else see similarities?

Yeah, it reminds me of the case Jak & Daxter vs. Ratchet & Clank that happened a few years ago.

I don't really think it's that special.
Japan pretty much create more extraordinary games than America, games that will never face the American and European market. Phoenix Wright and Trauma Center are the few that made it here, and are certanly not the only occupation based games that exist (Kabu Trader Shun, for example) Phoenix Wright was created way before Trauma Center, that makes Trauma Center pretty much the ape. I wouldn't be surprised if the Phoenix Wright series started the "occupation-based games" trend.
But you can't escape the similarities in the story, though.

btw, I think the new main character resembles Kaminogi a lot.

Also, the year: 2016. Exact same for both. TC is in Angeles Bay, PW is in Los Angeles. Coincidence? No, I haven't written TC/PW crossover fanfiction, why do you ask?

Happiness Punch (great name btw :phoenix: ) I am interested in some of these occupation Japan only games.

What are some of them? Cuz any game like Phoenix Wright or Trauma Center seems like games I want to play.

Well, Kabu Trader Shun (which is rumoured to be localized soon) you'll work as a stock trader. There is also another surgical simulation game, called Lifesigns:Hospital Affairs. It was created before Trauma Center but is being re-released to the DS in US and Europe. There are lots of other games I've stumbled across, but I don't remember if they were occupation based or just dating sims. And heck, Japanese game titles are hard to remember >____<

You should check the Go Nintendo at times, they bring news about almost every DS and Wii games that are being made in Japan :D

Haha, It wouldn't surprise me if they based that character on him XD.

*compares for the sake of it*

Dating sims and occupational dramas are time-honored video game genres in Japan that, by and large, have never seen the light of day in the US. We're lucky Trauma Center and Phoenix Wright made it out here, it probably wouldn't have happened if the DS hadn't surprised everyone by being a kick-ass system. "Oh crap, we have to get some more games in the line-up!" ...Is probably what they were thinking. Now that job games are coming out, I want a dating sim! :will:

Yeah, I did see the similarities, even without playing both games. However, PW will always be the first and the original idea, the other's will just be ideas spawned from PW >=) PW is the Mew and Trauma Centre is the Mewtwo! (Sorry for the dorky ref ;-;)

A dating sim called Sprung was a launch title for the DS. Don't bother trying to find it though, it sucked! It is pretty much still the lowest scoring DS title to date! (Except for maybe Ping Pals...)

I still have to play trauma center. Second opinion will be out in a month. Unless they push it back further.

Mmmmh. Why does it take 9 months to bring it to europe, I wonder....
