On the last episode of Wrestle Ball Z, many CR Forum Members discussed what would happen if the criminals in PW got One More Testimony...

... But then the opposite idea occured to me...

Could Phoenix, Edgeworth, Franziska, and the other Defense Attorneys and Prosecutors, have done anything to shorten the cases?

One of the most obvious situations that show this, are 1-4, when Phoenix Wright shows his "Decisive Evidence" to Manfred von Karma while in the evidence room... However, while this seems obvious, Manfred is never officially connected to the crime, or else he would have been taken away at the end of Yanni's trial... However, he wasn't, and because of that, the remainder of 1-4 occured... While this seems like it would have been faster, it's a fact that the case would have had Edgeworth confess to his "Crime", while the real criminal would already be behind bars for a different crime.

A much better example is in 1-5: during the trial that occurs before the final day, Miles Edgeworth states that the owner of the card ID "7777777" needs to have an official charge made on them before their name can be revealed... Now, Damon Gant is suspected by Edgeworth and Phoenix relatively early... and he threatens then numerous times, even in court! Because of this, if Phoenix OR Edgeworth were to try charging the Chief with "Verbal Assault", then it would be an "Official Charge".

Need I go on? Yes? Okay then! Once this is done, his Card ID would be revealed, and he would be forced to explain himself for why his card was used.

Any other cases that could have been "Sped Up" if things went differently?

I never noticed those spots while playing--good catch!

In 2-1, Phoenix makes a big deal about proving that the victim was left handed, so he couldn't have written "Maggie" on the ground. But the victim suffered from a broken neck, therefore leaving him paralyzed...THEREFORE, he wouldn't have been able to move at all, let alone write something. If that was brought up, the defendant would have been cleared of suspicion and that whole episode wouldn't have happened...SCIENCE! :scientific:

2-2--DNA analysis would have uncovered Mimi's secret--saving Phoenix an entire case... :pizza: More Science!
Some secret wait to be discovered...some never are...
Some secrets lay in the shadows...and Justice is the Light...

To nullify your first points Wrestlemania if he pressed charges at that point (though the verbal assault is dubious) they would be charged with a much lighter crime and the truth in the original case would be lost. Luke Atmey actively tried to invoke this, get charged for theft to dodge the murder wrap. I'm sure Phoenix would regret it when he realised he couldn't get the actual criminals because he pressed charges at the wrong point.

You thought you could be safe in your courts, with your laws and attorneys to protect you. In this world only I am law, my word is fact, my power is absolute.

I dunno if this counts, since this is more of a thing to stop the entire case from happening with this defendant, rather than instantly convinct the bad guy...

2-1
Instant Mistrial because... the victim broke his neck. He would've been incapable of writing anything - he might've been able to write a little bit, but not in any legible fashion.

2-2
Perhaps Phoenix could've gotten Ini instantly suspected as soon as she was called up as a Witness because her initial statement was "I slept through the entire thing, I don't know anything" and now she comes and says she has important stuff to tell us ... but that might be me. I suspected her during her initial statement, anyway.

Can't think of anything else right now.

I actually brought this issue in the Cough-Ups Thread regarding case 1-4:

Quote:
Title: Selective Memory Problems
Case: 1-4, Turnabout Goodbyes
Problem: The caretaker's "state of mind"

Spoiler:
At the very beginning of the caretaker's story, he says he can't remember his name. The judge calls on that and von Karma explains he cannot remember anything that happened during the past years, but he could testify because the incident with Hammond had only happened three days ago.

Okay, fast-forward to the third day, when Phoenix is sure that the caretaker is Yanni Yogi and tries to strike down the old man's allegations about his memory by taking his fingerprints. Then, von Karma tells Phoenix that the "witness has no fingerprints".

Immediately, Yogi says that before working at the boat rental shop, he used to work at a chemical plant and burned his fingers there.

AT THAT MOMENT, PHOENIX COULD'VE WON THE CASE AND SPARED HIMSELF FROM THE SHAME OF CROSS-EXAMINING A PARROT. Why?

It is implied that Yogi had owned the boat shop for a long time. So, if what von Karma said at the second day about him not remembering ANY past events, then Yogi would not be able to remember how he burned his fingers.

Well Phoenix, at least you managed to win in the end.

You seem to be assuming that they have DNA samples from the deceased who died in a car crash. I'm also not sure why they would think to do a DNA test to prove whether she's her dead sister until someone suspected her. I didn't really suspect her of being Mimi until the day in court when it came out.

True, it is unlikely to have DNA samples like this...funny story...I hadn't taken a hard-core biology class when I wrote that, but now that I have, and I realize my mistake... :lana:

Wocky: "I'm not your boy, old man!"

Big Wins: "I'm sure you'll enjoy many happy years of marriage with him, Miss Tiala. I would be... unhappy if you jilted my son. Even if he's found Guilty... I think we can work out a deal, capice?"

Alita: (nervous laughter) "Of course... We have the rest of our lives to... look forward to..."

Wocky: "That's right, babes, I'ma show you a g's life, for reals!"

Alita: "OH GOD I CONFESS PLEASE JAIL ANYTHING BUT THAT"

AJ-3:

Ema: "I found an igniter under the couch!"

Apollo: "...did you find what it was used to ignite?"

Ema: "OH I FORGOT TO MENTION THE FIRECRACKERS??? SORRY!!!"

---

AJ-1 AND AJ-4:

Phoenix: "Apollo, before you walk into the courtroom, let me give you this note telling you exactly what happened and what you're supposed to say."

Apollo: "But how can I call myself a lawyer if I just follow a script?!"

Phoenix: "Trust me, you're mostly just gonna be my hand puppet one way or another. Why not cut to the chase?"

It's unclear what the river level was at the time of the case when Fawles was initially convicted, but if it was low, you'd think his lawyer the first time around would have pointed out that
Spoiler:
he couldn't have pushed Dahlia the way Valerie said because she would have been found crushed on the rocks.
