.... Or Team Stepladder?
Do you support Maya's claims?
Or do you judge things based on narrow- minded cultural assumptions?

Stepladder, although it's a little more complicated. All stepladders are ladders, but not all ladders are stepladders.

I tried to think of a logical way to approach this and it was no use. So I'm just gonna say stepladder.

Just have to say, I can't believe a thread like this only came now. It's like, the fundamental question every AA-player gotta ask themselves.

I believe there was a thread like this once years ago. My memory is that it got locked, but I don't remember why. Anyway, I like to be specific, so I'm on Team Stepladder.

I see. Not during my time here, then.

If it would be clear to everyone involved that there was only one ladder in the room/house/area, I would call it a ladder, just like how if there were only one dog around, I would refer to it as "the dog".
If there were more than one, or if it weren't clear, I'd call it a stepladder (just like how, facing a group of different dogs, I would specify which one I'm talking about).

When referring to an item that is obviously a stepladder (especially the short ones... I don't know, short ones seem more stepladder-ish for some reason... i don't know) I will always say "stepladder", which sometimes gathers odd looks, which fade normally in the next seconds.

I seldom correct people when they incorrectly say ladder, only friends who have either played the game or I have explained the joke to, and family. Unless I am feeling particularly asshole-ish, which rarely happens. No need to become a Stepladder Nazi.

'Tis a ladder until it is spread. Then, it is a stepladder, regardless of whether it was broken to become one. (If it was broken, we refer to duct tape.) Nevertheless, I think we can all agree that calling it "steps" would be fair. That's what I usually say.

To be perfectly honest, though, I do distinguish between stairs and steps, as well as shovels and spades.

Ladder. A stepladder is a compound word. "step" + "ladder" = stepladder. Like a stepping ladder. Thus creating the name "Stepladder". What was the base word? "ladder". So far, the only noun in the compound word is 'ladder'.

Ladder.

It really doesn't matter. Because if you add a Ladder and another in the opposite direction, it will be a stepladder, since stepladders are just two ladders combined to each other. It would be illogical to just blurt out Stepladder without understanding the fact that it's just two ladders combined! :object:

@AcePointer: By that logic, you should also call a house a room, a pool a tub, a forest a tree, and a sentence a word. ;)

Post subject:  Re: Team Ladder...?

Technically, a house is a bunch of rooms, a pool is a big tub, a forest is a biome, not a bunch of trees, and a sentence is made up of a bunch of words.

Stepladders are two ladders that seem to step at each other. Not because stepladders are two combined ladders. That, is still a narrow-minded cultural assumption itself.

Team stepladder. Ambiguous words like "ladder" will just cause more confusion that the "Confusing things in AA" thread.

Whatever, it's just an ordinary stepladder, nothing special. :nick:

I'm definitely on Team Stepladder. Always have been, always will be. It just feels like the most logical choice, I think. :think-pw: But I guess I can also see how someone might want to be on Team Ladder. :-P
