It's interesting to note that Iris was the first female that Phoenix became really comfortable with. (Though that's assuming the only 'real' friends he had from elementary through high school are Larry, Edgeworth, and few select others).
I realized their personalities really work well with each other. They're both really nice (and sweet) characters, and I assume that when they went out they were probably both really sweet with each other.
Also they both have the trait of putting a lot of faith and love and for others. Both were willing to die for each other and I thought it was sweet and made the couple better.
Sadly, I'd think present day (after 3-5) it might be a tad hard for them to get back together.
However, I still think that at the very least, they can bcome great friends. Despite, Iris deceieving him, I have a feeling she could become one of the few people Phoenix has absolute trust in (besides Maya, but even then he doesn't tell her that much I guess).

It was thrown in at the end, it seemed rushed and cliched, it didn't fit Phoenix's character at all and Iris is too nice. She's so much so, in fact, that whenever I talked to her in 3-5 I would tell her to shut up and cheer when she started to cry. I hate her.
