Just a little thing I noticed. It would seem Capcom decided that Odoroki would become the new protagonist following the release of Ace Attorney; take a look at the logos (these are not actually spoilers! Don't worry. Phoenix ).

Spoiler: GS1 Logo

Spoiler: GS2 Logo

Look at the big blue text in each. Gyakuten Saiban 1 uses 'Phoenix Wright' as it's main focus, whereas Gyakuten Saiban 2 uses 'Ace Attorney' as its own. It would seem that following the release of Gyakuten Saiban 1 in England, Capcom made a concious decision to turn 'Ace Attorney' into the series name and make Phoenix the protagonist of only a few games.

It's also hinted on the box art that this decision was to be made; the first game used a character, setting specific picture. The other two; Justice For All and Trials and Tribulations both appear to use the same basic layout - four characters with equal attention on each - and this carried on to Gyakuten Saiban 4.

And I know the T&T music was composed back on the GBA, way before Odoroki's day, but the music in that still appears to hint a 'this is it. This is Phoenix's finest hour... and his last'. It captured desperation, emotion...

Just a few things I've noticed.

But those are the English logos. By the time JFA came out in America, GS4 was already being developed. The Japanese logos aren't any different. If you read the blog about Shu Takumi deciding to switch the main character, there isn't a hint of premonition in it, just a decision made after GS3 came out and there was demand for more.

The logo for JFA was made after Odoroki was announced. When they decided to continue the release of the series after the first game, they knew having Phoenix be the focus would cause problems down the road and changed the logo and series name to fit.

Though they want to have this series known as the "Ace Attorney" series and not Phoenix Wright series, there's also another method of reasoning I just thought of.

In the first game, he wasn't that much of an ace attorney until the end. He was just Phoenix Wright.
And then, in the second game, he was more of an ace attorney, and not just Phoenix Wright, so they changed it to reflect that.

Yeah, I think they changed it to the "Ace Attorney" series just for Odoroki.

Hmm, I think it's quite odd that Capcom seems obsessed with making it call the series 'Ace Attorney', instead of Phoenix Wright, but then again, I might be looking too much into this. Let's just hope T&T sells well enough so that they will decide to translate GS4!

NEW AND EXCITING! :ack:

Seriously though, its as others have said, they decided to change the series from the PW series to the AA series in the US to help with the fact PW4 in the US would not have the player playing as Phoenix :udgy:

But it's not PW4. PW ended with 3. It's now OH1.
Or AA4.

But yes, that is why they changed it. :|

I think I'll just call them GS from now on. It'll become way too confusing in the future... -_-;

You know calling them Ace Attorney or AA is just as simple as a solution.

AA doesn't have the same ring to it for me... Personal preference, I suppose.

Moving the brand away from Phoenix Wright and instead to Ace Attorney allows for more flexibility, allowing the franchise to focus on other characters in the franchise without losing the all important brand. I'm sure at some point, people would get sick of PW, right? =D

I had been wondering the exact same thing about the change in titles from AA1 to AA2. It think it was done just so there would be a smoother transition in the change of main characters. And omg, HOBOROKI!? not again....

Here's me view on it:
When they released the first game over here they weren't expecting to do any more in English. However, when they released JFA they had decided to translate the whole series. This would mean switching to Apollo Justice (just trying to get used to the name) at some point so they couldn't keep the series name as Phoenix Wright. They changed it to Ace Attorney.
