I'm looking for any information on Kyouya, or any media with an english translation. I'm INCREDIBLY interested in Kyouya after hearing that his personality is seemingly the complete antithesis of Edgeworth's.

Well, since you asked (and since I was looking for something to translate), here's a translation of just one section of the Nintendo Dream interview, the part on pp. 11-12 where they talk about Kyouya.

Scans of the original Japanese text are in the Court Records "News" section:
http://www.court-records.net/scans/3dream11.jpg
http://www.court-records.net/scans/3dream12.jpg

The three people interviewed are:

Shu Takumi: Director/Writer/Creator of the series
Minae Matsukawa: Producer of GS4, with the series since PW:AA for DS
Kazuya Nuri: Head Character Designer since PW:AA for DS

Anyway, here it is... enjoy! (Again, this is kind of a rush job, so I apologize if it's a bit rough.)

~

Obviously, a big part of any Ace Attorney game is the prosecutor. This time around, we have Kyouya Garyuu, a prosecutor who also happens to be a rock star. So... what's this guy all about?

Nuri: To be honest, even though I'm drawing him... I can't say that I know everything about him. The people who've playtested the game, though... I heard them saying, "He's a nice guy." <laughs>
Takumi: Well, he is a nice guy.
Matsukawa: Yeah, I was... kinda moved by him.
Takumi: Moved?! By what?
(The three laugh)
Matsukawa: When we first came up with the concept for his character a year ago, I had no idea that he'd turn out like this.
Takumi: That's true. Kyouya had it pretty rough. I'm not even sure I understand everything about him. He's got a lot of depth, you could say. Unfortunately, I can't say more without going into spoilers, but like... with his band, and all.
Matsukawa/Nuri: Ah, "Garyuu Wave"...
Takumi: I come up with these concepts off the top of my head, so... I was kind of worried that Nuri might get upset with me.
Nuri: The first thing he did was apologize to me.
Matsukawa: Like with the names of his songs, too. I can't go into detail, but he was all worried: "Is Nuri going to get mad at me when he hears these song titles?" Or when we decided what kind of songs he sings... "Is the sound team going to be upset when they find out that these cool songs are stuck with these lyrics?" <laughs>

Where did the idea to make him a rock star come from?

Takumi: Nowhere in particular. <grin> To come up with a new character, you some kind of starting point, right? Like with Minuki, she's a magician. I considered a bunch of different themes, and eventually came up with rock and roll.
Matsukawa: In the beginning, we weren't thinking of much other than having him wear rock-and-rollish clothes.
Nuri: Yeah, we had no plan of making him a musician at first. The face and basic look for him came together first, before we had a script. So I asked Mr. Takumi, what could be a good back story for this guy? And he said, "A rock star."
Takumi: That was just out of desperation. <grin>
(Everyone laughs)
Nuri: So then I thought, well, I'll give it a shot... and went out and bought three expensive books for reference... thinking all along that they'd just end up being a waste of money.
Matsukawa: I saw a huge pile of books about silver jewelry on Nuri's desk, and I was like, what are these for? And he said that he bought them becuase Mr. Takumi had told him "Try giving Kyouya some bling-bling."
Nuri: Looking back on it now, I didn't really need so many references. I mean, like that big "G" pendant isn't like anything that you see in real life.
Takumi: So are the Garyuu brothers your favorite characters from this game? It sure seems like you put an awful lot into getting them just right.
Nuri: No, I wouldn't say that I have a particular favorite... I feel a fondness for all the characters, really. With the Garyuus, I'd say that it was more that I struggled to get them right.
Takumi: With their traditional "pretty boy" looks, it seems that the Garyuus are pretty popular already. So what do you think? When people actually play the game, will we see more Garyuu fans? Less?
Nuri: I really have no idea. <grin>
Matsukawa: Well, with Kyouya... I mean, in Ace Attorney, obviously we've already this prosecutor called Edgeworth. To have any chance of topping him, we've got to come at it from a completely different direction. At least, that's what I said... but looking at the final character design now, I guess my opinion didn't count for much!
Nuri: Hey! I thought I followed instructions pretty well!
(Both laugh)
Matsukawa: But yeah, it may be a little different from what we originally ordered, but I think his design turned out well.
Takumi: With his "cool" looks, it makes me feel like I shouldn't have him do or say anything, you know, too strange...
Nuri: Well, yeah... I guess you could say that he's a bit different from the typical Ace Attorney characters we've seen to this point.
Matsukawa: True. It's kinda like, hmm, yeah, this is a type of character we haven't seen before.
Takumi: Or rather, I feel like we've gradually wandered further and further off. But yeah, I'd say that Kyouya is a hard character to categorize. He's someone who you can't really just say, "well, this is the kind of guy he is."
Matsukawa: Maybe he's just an enigma.
Takumi: In a way, you could say that the world that he's a part of too... the world itself has its parts that don't quite make sense. But I think that GS4 has its own unique "flavor." Maybe Nuri here has a good touch with more "serious" things. To compare... with Godot and Mitsurugi, we had the scenario in place first. But with Franziska, her personality changed quite a bit based upon her artwork. Same with Kyouya -- with his artwork and the idea of making him a rock star, his personality also changed quite a bit. Not to say too much about the script, but, yeah... you could say that the eventual output turned out pretty different from what we originally expected. It's a mysterious thing.
Nuri: It's like firing an arrow and hitting a different target from the one you were aiming at.
Matsukawa: But obviously he's got more unique traits than we're able to reveal here. You'll just have to "meet" him and see for yourselves that he's even more difficult to understand than we described. <smile>

Wowowowow Onamida, that post was made of major win. Thanks for translating that. :D

So, Kyo's a nice guy, but an engima? I'm actually really glad that he's not too similar to Edgeworth. Takumi-sensei had the right idea when he said it'd be hard to top him.

I'm very interested on how he'll interact with Odoroki though. It seems like the two are on good terms with each other, so there won't be that kinda tension that Nick and Edgey had with each other.

Does, anyone care speculate on what's up with Kyouya?

I'd be very interested to see how Kyouya interacts with Housuke in and out of court. Is there any word on that kind of stuff?

*fires random plot generator*

Many of Kyouya's songs focus upon his younger sister, whom was kidnapped in a mysterious incident twelve years before the events of GS4 and presumed dead. In a cliché turn of events, the end of Case 4 will reveal this long-lost sister to be Minuki-chan herself.

*bangs on the random plot generator a few times*

Crap... it broke. Oh well, live and learn.

That's actually not a bad idea... Though it IS very archetypal, isn't it?

Ahah, I know what that means~
SG, it's just a line Kyo tells Odoroki in one of the screenshots, and people like to take it out of context. XD

Anyways, So far, Kyo's supposed to be honest, straight faced and nice. Odoroki also seems very nice. Maybe they'll try to out nice each other? XD

Man O' man, I can't wait for this game to come out. I must know more about the Ganryuus. DX
