(2) Just because it's name is atroquinine doesn't mean that it is whatever "atro" is mixed with quinine
(3) Even if it is atro mixed with quinine, atro could still be a special chemical that reacts with quinine to form a poisonous substance

They may have gotten "atro" from Atropine, which is poisonous, but also usefull (including as an antidote for nerve gas) :
