I think we all agree that Apollo is WAY too adorable not to love. <333

Spoiler: GS4
I actually really like the idea of a private adoption. I had always thought that, even before rethinking what Brushel said. But, now that you think about it...>.<

"Falling through the system" could also mean a lot of other things, though. It could mean that he had some trouble in the Foster Care system. It could also mean he never reallly got adopted at all.

It irks me when people say that we haven't gotten much background info on Apollo. We kinda know more about Apollo, don't we? XD Besides, we didn't find out some stuff about Phoenix until the third game, for cryin' out loud! Grrr...

I get defensive when talking about Polly...

I think it's unfair the way people are so ready to take Phoenix over Apollo. I know Phoenix is better in court, and Apollo screws some stuff up, but think about it. In three of Phoenix's cases in the first game, he showed evidence to guilty party, proving them to the murderer, OUTSIDE OF COURT. Polly has done some dumb stuff. Nick has done some freaking suicidal stuff.

Spoiler: 4-4 SPOILERS, MASSIVE
I'm really keen to find out where Apollo ended up after Thalassa left him. I imagine him to have been a bit of law geek growing up, personally.

...Wanna remind me which cases those were? XD I just REPLAYED the first game, too--my memory is made of total suckage.

I think Apollo's situation is a little more realistic. Phoenix became an "ace" so very quickly, but that doesn't usually happen.

But let's not turn this into a Phoenix bash fest. >.< We all love Phoenix--we just love Apollo more.

Spoiler: GS4
Law geek? Yeah, I can see that. Maybe the fact that he didn't have a "family" growing up contributed to the reason he wanted to be a lawyer. If he got into the system deep enough, he could look up his past.

The cases where Phoenix has his idiot moments are the second, the third and the fourth. The killers in those cases respond by, in order:

Calling the police and having Phoenix arrested for murder
Calling the Mafia to try and rub him out
Tazering him.

And I agree about loving Phoenix as well as Apollo.

Spoiler: Apollo's past, continuing discussion
I've been toying with the idea for a while now that there may be more to Magnifi Gramarye than we know. I mean think about it, he covered up his own daughter's apparent death, and later worked Zak and Valant to the bone and gave them that screwy test of worthiness, while holding her "death" over their heads the whole time. Maybe the reason Thalassa left Apollo behind had something to do with him? I wonder if he hadn't even arranged the whole thing (how DID the real bullet get in that gun anyway?) as a way of gaining control or something.

As long as we're talking about stupid!Nick (who I love oh-so-very much nonetheless):
Spoiler: 3-1 and 3-5
Ingesting a glass bottle that once contained poisonous liquid and running across a flaming bridge both rank as pretty effing suicidal in my mind. :P

Brushel's "getting lost in the system" (...what was the exact wording again? I need to replay that part...) comment gave me the impression that he was left to struggle through the foster system and all mentions of him disappeared from his mother's family history. I've never heard anyone refer to a child in state custody as "lost" or "fallen through" and mean it in a good way. :(

It kind of makes me wonder if Brushel knows who his father is.
Spoiler: 4-4
He made very little mention of him (only saying he was a magician outside of the Troupe) and I wonder if that's because he's hiding something or if he simply can't find any information on him (much like how he seemed to have difficulty finding any information on Apollo).

Also,
Spoiler: 4-4 based speculation
Am I the only one who thinks that Magnifi might have had a hand in Apollo's separation from his mother? Based on what we've seen of her, I have a hard time imagining that she willingly gave him up without a very good reason or without some very strong pressure, and we've all seen how much of a bastard his grandfather is....

Spoiler: Continuing Discussion
Maybe Magnifi didn't like who Thalassa went off with? Or, that she got pregnent so young? I mean, she was about 18 when she got pregnent, right? But I think it would have to be something huge to make Thalassa leave her son behind. Then again, it seemed to me that the only reason he covered up the death of his daughter was because of his magic. Hm...*fzzt* My brain 'sploded.

GRARGH. I REALLY want GS5 now. T~T

Has this been posted already? I don't remember. Anywho, it's from Kinoko Kaihatsu, who has quite possibly the best Apollo pics EVER.

EDIT: AH! SPEAKING OF KINOKO KAIHATSU! (under the second spoiler tag)
They (she? he? idk?) reported some about the Gyaku Meets Orchestra concert, and it had pictures of three of the cards from a card deck they were selling (I think. I used BabelFish translator b/c that's the best I can do Either that, or it's cards that KK made. Anyone who can read Japanese go check out the site, under Diary. Click on the link in the post.). I saw those cards a few hours ago. I thought [s]he made those cards (*can't read Japanese either*) since the bandage on his face seems to be a trademark of many of his/her young!Apollo drawings. I might be wrong though. I kind of wish I am wrong; canon!delinquent!Apollo would be wicked....

Spoiler: Yet some more from 4-4
Nick mentioned at some point during the Mason System (I think after you complete talking with Valant in the detention center) about how he knew it was his job to protect Trucy from her grandfather's legacy, or the Troupe's "darkness", or something along those lines. But if her grandfather's gone, who does Nick think she needs protection from? Valant? Her father? The Gramarye line in general?

I think there's a deeper line of logic behind Thalassa's disappearance than what we were given in this game (exactly how was making her "vanish" supposed to benefit the Troupe? Even if they were trying to cover up her accidental, magic-induced death to save face, wouldn't the fans still question why she had suddenly disappeared off the face of the earth?). I think there's more to the Troupe's shadowy past than we've been given. Much more.

Re: Pregnancy; we assume she was 18 because Polly's 22 and she's 40 "now", but depending on where their birthdays fall, she could have been as young as 17 when she became pregnant. That might have been reason enough to leave the Troupe and run off with Apollo's father, depending on how Magnifi would have reacted to her getting (dun dun DUN) teenage pregnant. And I think someone else mentioned it before me, but that might also be a reason why she gave him up after returning to the Troupe: she wasn't at the point in her life when she could reasonably raise a child alone.

...Believing that she was protecting him from some dark family secret is more fun, though. :P

Dark secrets are always fun. Even Apollo thinks 17-18 is too young to have a kid. When he heard that Phoenix was only 33, and Trucy 15, he thought "I'm sure there's a good explanation for this".

I actually think that there might be a decent chance that Magnifi had something to do with Thalassa giving up Apollo. I mean, he certainly had a great deal of influence over the whole group and a definite manipulative streak (he blackmails his two disciples over Thalassa's "death" which is manipulative on its own, but I also think it's pretty likely that he had to know that she was alive. Valant and Zak both thought that she was dead and she apparently just disappears during a magic act only to end up in another country. Since neither Zak nor Valant ever saw the body, someone else involved in this drama had to orchestrate the disappearing act and the most logical choice is Magnifi particularly considering that he was the only one who gained anything out of this. I wonder how Magnifi reacted to Thalassa leaving the troupe... He doesn't strike me as the type to take that kind of thing well. I'm pretty sure that Phoenix's comment was not in reference to Magnifi alone though. It was a reference to the family in general, which considering what he knew about them, is a pretty sensible reaction.

I will admit that I hope they aren't simply going to appeal to Thalassa's age for her reasoning about leaving her son behind. From what we know, she returned to the troupe soon after her husband's death where her father and his two disciples were available to help. Assuming Magnifi wasn't the reason she abandoned Apollo, he had apparently raised Thalassa and could probably have helped with her son if need be. Besides, both Zak and Valant were around and, even if they weren't responsible enough to be parents themselves yet, they probably could have watched Apollo for short periods when Thalassa was busy. Certainly they all managed to fit Trucy into their lives, so I see little reason that they couldn't have worked Apollo in as well. Also, a famous group of magicians at the peak of their fame can probably afford a nanny. :P

Spoiler: one simple question
I think the key to this issue about why Thalassa left Apollo behind can be summed up in one simple question:

Who is Apollo's father?

Spoiler:
That's very true about his dad. I mean, all we know about him was that he died in an accident on stage or something, right? But, what was that accident?
OR
Was it really an accident? *conspiracy theory~~~* I'm really not sure if I would prefer it either way, actually.

What really surprises me is that, in most situations where the family is unknown, and it's a MALE, the father is usually the one revealed first, not the mom. I just...find that rather amusing.

So, while we would like to know more, we do know quite a bit about his family. But we don't know about his PAST. The things that SHAPED him. That's bugging me the most...>.>

You know...I quite like this particular thread. What makes it much cooler than the Klavier or Kristoph threads is that we're having a "real" discussion about disecting our bumbling, adorable Apollo. That's always enjoyable. :odoroki:

Spoiler: Whole game spoilers
Maybe the 'Gramarye Darkness' is something similar so what makes the Fey family so convulsive - the constant infighting and whatnot. The problem I see with this is that being the Master of Kurain gives you genuine power. Being a prominent Gramarye doesn't. I know Valant did something hideous over magic tricks, but there was a lead-up to that - the woman he apparently loved was 'dead', he and Zak were being blackmailed, troupe relations were strained like never before. In the series, we have definitely seen more than a few people who, if Gramaryes, would do awful things to increase their fame as magicians ( Mr. Gavin, I'm looking at you). But it seems to fall flat as a reason for the corruption of an entire group.

On a side note, who do you think are more dysfunctional, the Gramaryes or the Feys? I think I'm voting for the Feys at the moment, but there is something irresistibly ironic about the idea of the Gramaryes' magical glitz and glamour hiding a world of pain on the inside.

I imagine that Justice was the name of his adoptive family or I suppose that it could simply be a made up name Thalassa came up with when she gave him away. Certainly she couldn't let him use Gramarye in the circumstances. It would be too easy to connect Apollo to her and the rest of her family particularly with how famous the troupe was at the time. I suppose it could be his father's name as well. We don't know what his name was and usually children take on the father's family name, not the mother's.

Sadly, I can see Apollo being picked on mercilessly. Poor Polly...

On another note, pictures!

I love the pics of assassin Apollo. They amuse me. I can't translate the comic, but I'm pretty sure its intended to simply be a representation of the events in the game. Apollo starts off working for Kristoph against Phoenix, not knowing Kristoph's true self. Phoenix confronts him and tells him the truth. Apollo switches sides and ends up protecting Phoenix and Trucy from Kristoph. Anyway, Apollo looks very cool in the comic which is why I'm posting it. :)

I've had that mini-doujin on my hard drive for weeks now and I still can't stop staring at it. I think it's my favorite piece from that site. It took me a few "readings" to understand. what the heck was going on (I still don't fully understand it). Gawd I wish I knew how to read Japanese! >_<

DUDE THAT COMIC ROCKS EVERYTHING IN THIS WORLD! ^_________________________^

I swear, if someone could translate it, I could die happy. My jaw DROPPED when I saw it. I am FASCINATED by that characterization of Apollo. Completely FASCINATED.

Spoiler:
I either want "Justice" to be the name he chose or the name of his father. 'Cause, for all we know, the public may not know his father's real name because he used a stage name all the time.

I would more want it to be his father. But then that wouldn't really be any fun. ^^

I agree with you that nerdy Apollo is far more likely then delinquent Apollo. Although, I could see him going through a short stage where he decides to try (and fails) to be a delinquent so as to be cool. That stage ends and he becomes the law nerd we all know and love. I love that pic by the way. I have it saved to my computer... To be fair though, I'm pretty positive that I have most of the pics on that site saved especially anything concerning older Phoenix, Trucy, and Apollo. :P

Heh. Now I have this mental image of young Apollo throwing a chair or something on the floor in a fit of rebelliousness, storming out, then five seconds later coming back in to contritely put the chair back to normal again.

apollo is so amazing. i personally support delinquent apollo 100%, but i think nerdy apollo is more likely.

I'll admit it. Up until quite recently, I didn't like Apollo. I thought that most everything about him was stupid. His hair. His name. His bracelet. All of it.

I don't know why, but a couple days ago, I had a major change of heart. I decided to give Polly another chance. I replayed GS4, and realized how much of an idiot I'd been. In fact, I'd say Apollo's one of my favorite characters in the series now. He's absolutely adorkable!

Spoiler: Something completely random
This is completely random, but last night, I had this dream. For some reason, Apollo was in my dream. He was crying, so I went over and asked him what was wrong. He immediately started crying more. It was cute, in a totally depressing way. This, of course, made me sad, so I hugged him, which only made me sadder. I woke up to find I was hugging my fuzzy, red pillow and crying.

(If nothing in this post makes sense, I blame insomnia.)
