Yeah, Phoenix is the most dignified Hobo there is. He didn't even stoop to recycling because he knew there were better ways to earn money such as gambling every once in a while... :hobohodo:

I <3 :hobohodo:

I really liked him in the first games but I really liked him in AJ too. ^^
The only time I didn't was in the flashback in 4-4.

...That was disappointing, very disappointing. And it was most certainly NOT my Nick.
I don't care who he was, as long as I don't have to see him again.

And here's hoping for more Phoenix in the next game! :D

i was going to start my own hobo thread but it's a good thing i found this. :hobohodo:
i love the pictures here! i'll start drawing my own soon.
nick is definitely the most awesome wicked hobo out there. whenever apollo talks to him i end up just staring at nick. i feel so bad for him since he lost his badge. i like him better as a hobo than as an attorney but i don't know why. him and trucy are the cutest family. i love his hat. i'm actually knitting a blue one! but i started it before i even heard of ace attorney and was just procrastinating. :hobohodo:

this is really off-topic but a few pages back the topic was john travolta hobo or HOBO and apollo justice: hobo or HOBO. we are talking about phoenix wright: ace hobo! (although apollo would be funny as a hobo)

I really was a bit angry at the beginning of AJ seeing what Phoenix has become. I mean, does he even remember the reason why he became a defense attorney?? Because there are innocent people who don't have anyone to help them. Someone who has such dignified (not sure that's the right word) intentions can't just give up like that if you ask me.

So even when I found out about the circumstances of him loosing his badge I still was a bit disappointed. I mean, the character itself is fine with me but I don't like HIM having that character, it's just not Phoenix Wright anymore it's someone else. They should at least kept SOME of his former attidues...

I really hope he comes back as a lawyer in Ace Attorney 5 and if it's only for one case :(

Those pics in the last spoiler remind me of the discussion in the "if there is an anime thread" where someone brought up the idea of making it appeal to kids more by making it more actiony...

Phoenix is so poor now he has to eat his poker cards!! :D

I want Phoenix to come back as a defense attorney :sadshoe: I mean, he doesn't have to overshadow Apollo completely again, but it would still be fun to see him be a defense attorney with his hobo attitude xD And even if he was completely OOC in 4-4, I didn't even notice it 'cause I was still being happy at getting to play as him again ^_^ (and I agree with those people in the thread about him being a douche in 4-4 in that having won all those cases and going against super-arrogant Klavier, his behavior was pretty justified)

Yeah, maybe it'll put an end to all those wangst fics I've been seeing him in over at ff.net. These days it's incredably hard to find a Phoenix fic that dosen't involve him as some kind of "emo"-ish outcast who's life is pretty much over and hasen't seen or heard from his old friends in years. They do nothing but depress me... :sadshoe:

Hobo attorney = fun. Y'know how in all the games you gotta present 134059873 pieces of evidence, then the prosecutor is like, "So what? You still haven't [insert super-minor detail here]." It would be so much fun to "So what?" the prosecutor xD

old!Phoenix (who is ironically the younger one :eh?: ) would go "ZOMG! no wai!" until Mia shows up.
hobo!Phoenix would be like, "So what?" back and just present the final evidence already xD

I prefer Hobo Phoenix more than Lawyer Phoenix, actually. Hobo just seems to have more interesting traits and the like with him than Lawyer Phoenix.

I say, in the next Apollo Justice game, most of the old characters need to return, like Maya and Pearl.

...Godot couldn't hurt either, suppose. :godot:

You must love the Magic Hobo. It is required. :zenitora:

I prefer later Phoenix to the old one, not because I dislike the original version, but because I like manipulative figures. Phoenix messes with most everyone and has 'wheels within wheels'-style plans. He seems more intelligent and cereberal than his original incarnation, although he was by no means stupid (he was more emotional and slightly reckless then anything).

Also, I swear to all the gods and producers that he looks like a male gigolo when in his hobo garb. :hoboleft:

I'll state my opinion:
1. I think I like Phoenix better than Apollo...simply because his voice isn't too loud, and because the voice-overs are better.

2. I identify with the 33-year old Phoenix more. I hide in the shadows and watch over others from where you can't see me. However, I liked the previous Phoenix almost just as much - I just found him a little lacking in experience and...in maturity, I guess. Not that he was immature.

I was VERY disappointed, and I agree with everything you said.

Though..I became kinda hopeful at the end..When he said maybe he'd learn to play the piano, OR take the exams again. I hope he comes back as an attorney in AA5 too. I miss this - :phoenix:

I wished that somehow, while I was playing GS4, somehow he'd take off that silly hat of his. Admit it. You miss his pointy hair. :edgy:

I was very sad when I finished it and didn't get my wish. :larry:

A lot of people seem to agree. I think they gave him the hat, not just for *spoiler* reason but partly because it was an easy way to make him look different and partly because it was symbolic since his hair was like his signature trait and he was very attached to it. (i.e. we would think 'Phoenix has stopped grooming his insane hair and has covered it? Oh no! Something's wrong!')

And because of this, it would have been nice if he'd got to take it off for the credits, like things were getting back to more normal for him after the 7 years, but of course that would have meant more sprites which they were too lazy to draw.

I always thought it'd be neat if Phoenix became a prosecutor in GS5. Of course I don't think that would happen, because Phoenix would have to go against pretty much everything he believes in xD

Hopefully he'll show a tiny bit of emotion in GS5, just to help me get my head around the idea that he is in fact Phoenix and not some other guy that happens to have the same name xD

I was pretty shocked when I first saw Hobohodo. But it is worth noting that people in life change, whether you want them to or not. The change from lawyer to hobo further reinforces the depth of the characters that the series is often praised for, and the fragility of our own lives as well.

I was not PINK, it was...uh...maroon! Or whatever the heck you use for Edgey's suit! (Because everyone else calls it pink... :edgeworth: )

Anyways, I really like both Phoenixes...meh, can't decide. Younger Phoenix was more honest, naive, etc. and that made him a sympathetic character. On the other hand, hobohodo is freakin' awesome. ^^
I have to agree with someone else on this thread (forgot who/can't be bothered to look)--I did NOT like flashback Phoenix. -_- Arrogant little jerk. (I was annoyed during part of the case while I was playing and lamenting the change Phoenix went through, before I realized WHY I was so annoyed. He was pulling the 'experience' factor out, and there wasn't one single sprite of shock, surprise, or whatnot. Plus, he had his 'paper-tap-arrogant-face' on way too much...-_-
Only time I ever truly wanted someone to slap Phoenix. ^^)

Okay, I've been thinking about a certain topic lately and I thought this might be a good place to bring it up without getting flamed.

What exactly do you guys think of the fan's perception of Phoenix in this game?

To me it seems the fans are treating Phoenix in a similar manner to how he was likely treated in the context of the game. Some people seem to hate him and see him as a dispicable corrupt man, mostly by what he did in 4-1, while others who know what kind of person he is know his reasons for what he does. When I learned the bloody ace was a fake I thought to myself "Woah, so the real one was taken from the scene, so he used this fake one to incriminate... way to go Phoenix!" then seconds later, "Hey! Don't punch him you little wiener!"

Sadly it seems a great deal of the fans judge Phoenix heavily by his actions in that case, accusing him of his morals being corrupted and that he deserves to be a lowly scum of society. Never mind the fact he didn't just make up evidence out of nowhere, he just made a copy of evidence that had been taken from the scene of the crime. Also I think morals and ethics are a trivial thing to worry about when his life, as well as the life of an innocent woman were at stake. Had he not used that card, Kristoph would had gone free and either he or Olga could had been sentenced. The problem is too many people look at this situation as black and white, and all they care about is "ZOMG HE'S A FORGER!!1!"

Those fans also tend to exaggerate his pesonality as well. I'm sure we've all seen our far share of fan fics where Phoenix is casted in a rather bad light. I can't find the fic anymore, but one example I have is a story where Pearl comes to him at the bar and wants him to defend Larry of a murder. (apperently in this story he never told Maya or Pearl about what happened) Phoenix seems to just ignore her and later even insults her. Do other people really think he's changed so much?

Anyway, I'm curious to hear your guy's thoughts on this matter.

And yes, blue shirt and pink tie forever. :gant:

:gant:

You, sir, have read my mind.

Remember that in Apollo Justice, we don't see Maya, Pearl, Edgeworth, Larry, or any of his old friends at all - so there's no way that his reactions to them can be gauged simply by the fact that he's a hobo. People change over the course of seven years - heck, they change every day. However, memories can't be erased so easily (unless you're Thalassa.) I'm sure that if Maya were to walk into a bar (btw, this is not the beginning of a joke) and see Phoenix she'd be shocked, but I'm also sure that Phoenix would treat her with some form of dignity. Someone like Maya is not easy to forget when you have Phoenix's head. And I don't think that Phoenix would treat Pearl in such a way like in the fanfic you mentioned.

TL;DR: Phoenix hasn't changed for the worse but has become much more brooding and mysterious, not to mention much poorer. Hobohodo maintains all the personality of Naruhodo, it just manifests itself in a different form, is all.

Oh Lord, Phoenix is the most delicious hobo I have ever seen. 8D
His interactions with Trucy are amazing. <3 I find it amazing that he's such a good father and yet such a horrible father as well. Honestly, who lets their 15 year old daughter run about doing what-have-you without any supervision? Dx And at a place called the Wonder Bar? Sounds suspicious to me. << >> ... just kidding. Kind of.

One reason why people prefer Hobo over Nick might be because of the point-of-view switch. You never get to see Nick out of court (not even in 3-5--I think--, which I was totally expecting). I think people tend to like a character more when they can actually see their reactions and whatnot. Or maybe that's just me. 8D;

Anyways, here's some of my hobo fanart! ^^ *shameless promoting 8D;;;*
The only thing better than HoboHodo is...

HOBOMITSU! 8D ... or maybe not. XD; Phoenix definitely makes a more... hobo-ish hobo. But HoboMitsu is a fun idea. <3

I completely agree with you guys, DarkWobbuffet and AsakiPhreek.

The forgery was necessary to convict the guilty man. You can argue all you want about how he was putting Apollo in danger, but he WASN'T. If things had been found out, PHOENIX would've been the one with the harsher sentence than Apollo, who is only guilty of being oblivious. Phoenix would've explained things so Apollo wouldn't get the blame. Do people really have such a low view of Phoenix that they think he would just let Apollo take the fall like that? Also, the one who handed Apollo the card was his own daughter. Of course he wouldn't just go about forging evidence like that unless he had a very good reason, or he was prepared to take the risk and handle it. I guess I understood why Apollo would've felt the need to punch him, but at the same time I felt really bad for Phoenix. ):

And I don't think he is as poor as they make him out to be. The clients he took on before didn't exactly shower him with wealth, and whatever amount of money he had was mostly spent on Maya xD He still has enough money to uphold the office and afford to buy all of those expensive magical equipment for Trucy. It is only his clothing choice and his stubble that makes people think he seems like a sterotypical hobo xP

Also, he hasn't really changed THAT much personality-wise. He's a little more cynical, but mostly more mature and understanding of things. These things all come with age anyway, and he is still a little goofy. The core of his personality is the same, and he is still essentially the Phoenix we all know and love. (:
