:yuusaku: That's actually a pretty good idea, considering that (assuming Apollo took his father's last name, which he probably did in my head-canon street!Apollo fantasies) his last name was Justice.

One of my earlier ideas was that Apollo's father (I need a name for him, srsly) was actually a fake fortune teller, who read the minds of the people that came to him and told them what they wanted (or needed, if what they wanted to hear would not be beneficial to any party involved) to hear, believing that this was a service to society and the individual. Maybe Thalassa went to him when Magnifi was looking for disciples, wondering if this was the best thing for the troupe. (Holy crap, this could be a prequel [or at least a prologue] in and of itself :beef: )

God, all of my theories are probably going to be thrown out of the window when GS5 comes out. Kinda depressing, really. :sadshoe:

My sick mind wants to name him Loki, or something even stranger than Apollo. Though, naming him Loki would be ironicx10.

But, uh, no. Name. UM. Rupert. XD (I've got The Prestige on the brain)

NO, REALLY. I'M THINKING FOR REAL NOW. *on a names site*...WTF? There's a different between "English names" and "American names"?

Gwydion = God of Magic
...PFFT. Search = truth. First name = Apollo. PFFT...
So apparently Justus is an American name. How 'bout Justus Justice? *brick'd*
Or Billie. We could use Billie.

...wait. I'm going for Demitrius (or just Dmitri). Thalassa is Greek for "the sea". Demitrius is "Lover of the Earth" (which is the closest parallel I could find).

AND so ends my strange escapade into the land of names.

Lovin' the names, but none of them seem to... pop as much as they should. I'm on a random name generator right now, so maybe I can get an idea soon. If you guys still have ideas, though, I'd love to hear them. :keiko:

For the names:

How about Zeus (myth!Polly's daddeh)?

A few others:
Taranis (Celtic god of thunder; Zeus was lightning right?)
Talos (some solar bronze dude)
Cuthbert (means "performer")
Aladdin (xD)
Nomiki (means "relating to the law" in Greek)
Lamont (means "law man")
Veasna (means "opportunity; good fortune")

Yeah, that's all I got for now. =|

Spoiler: By the way
Would you mind if I did a fanfic with a "psychic Polly"? (I wouldn't rip off your storyline or anything; 'just asking because it's your idea in the first place. xD)

If you are a female member of the Gramarye family, you are really annoying towards everyone you meet (though in Thassala's case it seems to have skipped a generation).

If you are male however, you tend to be a real jerk to everyone you encounter (Zak seems to have had the lions share of this power, with Valant taking the remainder - it somehow seems to have skipped Apollo, so far anyway).

That's it! :gant-clap2:
Trucy is annoying! And I hate Phoenix for adopting her 7 years ago :fire:

I'm not sorry for Apollo :karma: Phoenix is much cooler than him xD but he should take off this hobo clothes quickly oO

Aw, don't hate on poor Polly. T~T

My question: how did the Gramarye's get their power in the first place? It's a physical phenomenon, which is what I find weird about it. How did they develop it to the point that it could be passed on?

It's genetic, So DNA.
Mutated genes are a fact in real life, Offspring will in a lot of cases share a positive atribute from a parent, and this "skill" will grow over time with every generation .(but ofcourse, psychic bracelet powers?, not likely)

I'M BACK!!! :Keko-hands:

My internet decided to die a few days ago and it just started working again.

I'm about half-way through the first chapter. It starts as kind of a case-fic but of course it becomes a real story later on. The case Apollo is on in the beginning is so weird. It's about this girl named Raven Darkswallow who is supposedly murdered by her ex-boyfriend Shayde Absynthe. The witness is Raven's roommate Penelope D'Blaim. Part of me wants to write a fic just about this case. X3

Anywho, I'm glad more people have come to the thread, but it would be nice if we could keep the character bashing to a minimum, 'kay? :garyuu:

Also, genetics = BRILLIANT TOPIC OF DISCUSSION. Run with it! :butzthumbs:

Genetics, eh?

*whips up an explaination*

For the Gramaryes, the gene that controls their ability to read unconcious cues probably mutated somewhere along the line and increased that ability 10-fold. .-. I'm guessing that that causes some kind of unconcious empathy.

The bracelet was made with some kind of metal that's able to contract when someone's stressed. I'm guessing that's because when someone's stressed, parts like arms and legs cool down; that's why I think the Gramaryes have empathy and stuff: They can tell that stuff. .-.

...

Ya know, that didn't make any sense at all. :meekins: *goes to get some sleep since it's late*

HMMMM.

Game explanation (as far as I can remember): The unconscious detection of twitches by a member of the Gramarye family causes that member to also tense up. That "tenseness" causes the bracelet to feel tight on the wrist--the "shape" or even "size" of the wrist has changed, so the form-fitting bracelet is no longer form-fitting. This triggers/lets the member know when to activate the "eye response"--the zooming in on the particular twitch.

Real Life/Background explanation (ready for some bull on my part?): DNA mutation is definitely a part of it. As Zak said, magicians needed to know how to read their audience. For "competition" purposes, the Gramaryes developed superior (read: super fucking crazy) vision over time--if you wanna get REALLY crazy, it probably has something to do with their lenses (the thing behind the eye that focuses depending on distance). I imagine the family is pretty old to have something as "advanced" as this. The vision can be explained. But what about the sensitivity? They don't even need to see the twitch to know that it's there. I have to wonder how they figured this out in the first place, and where they could have gotten those bracelets. The only thing I really can think of is that there is a spiritual/psychical connection somewhere, mostly in the form of empathy. Hell, maybe the Gramaryes and Feys used to be buddies.

And that's my crazy two cents.

Hmm. I know some stuff about metaphysics/parapsychology/whatever you want to call it (I'm a supernatural Ema Skye :sassy: ), and natural empath ability does sound like a likely cause for the sensitivity to tension in others. Refined over generations and combined with kinetic vision and the power of science (the bracelets), it could easily be developed into a system not unlike the "Perceive" system. With these assets, even a barely-above-ordinary amount of empath ability could be used in this dramatic a fashion.

God, this is fun!! X3

Isn't it, though? XD

I really want to believe that the Gramaryes knew the Feys, now. I was kind of joking when I wrote that above, but now I think it would be so freaking COOL. XDDD

There are just so many unanswered questions in regards to the Gramarye power. They had better be answered. Because if it is just left alone....OOH, I would be uber pissed. >.<

P.S. I'm almost done (like will be posted within the next couple of days) with the first chapter. The only problem is...

I've been thinking about this title business, and I've recently taken a fancy to the word "Indigo". (as it is the color of the third-eye chakra, the center of psychic thought, and it makes a reference to the Indigo Children, a supposed New Age generation of highly psychic children)

So now I present a few names I've been thinking of:

Indigo Secrets (inspired by a suggestion from DJCruithne)
Locks of Indigo (^^^)
Indigo Gifts (^^^)
Maze of Indigo (inspired by a suggestion from NinjAngel)

And my personal favorite so far, Breaking Indigo (I came up with this one all by myself AREN'T YOU PROUD?)

Do you guys like any of these? :keiko:

The fic really focuses on the inner turmoil and conflict Apollo faces (wondering if he's insane, worrying about how he's going to live with the voices, etc.), so I guess that could be what made me think of Breaking Indigo. :yuusaku:

:keiko:

OOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHH my gosh. OHMYGOSH. You talked about the Indigo Children. YOU TALKED ABOUT THE INDIGO CHILDREN. I love you for that.

But Apollo's not an Indigo Child. Technically, he's a Crystal Child (he's born in the early millenium):

"The first thing most people notice about Crystal Children is their eyes: large, penetrating, and wise beyond their years. Their eyes lock on and hypnotize you, while you realize your soul is being laid bare for the child to see."

I think it fits rather well. :yuusaku: And Crystal is also more fragile. So Broken Crystal might work as a double-reference.
