It's not hard to interpret Klavier as being just about anywhere on the sexuality spectrum, but that doesn't make it canon.

Twisted Sister is still arround, complete with the makeup.
And 46 years later, who's to say glam metal didn't make a comeback?

And judging by The Gavinners, it seems quite likely that it did.

True. He could just be a straight guy who likes flirting with male lead characters.

On a related note, this video sums up the thread perfectly.

Wait a minute, what are you talking about? I recall nothing of the sort.

Klav's bi, at best. It's pretty obvious he likes girls.

His very first line is "I'm used to being stared at by the frauleins, but this is the first time i've felt this way with a man.". If that isn't flirting then I don't know what is.

I hate to say it, but the localizer took some liberties with that line from the original. In Japanese it was much closer to simply "I'm used to be stared at by women, but not men." (IIRC)

Deliberate fan-pandering!? Could be. Either way I'm sure Capcom is at least aware of their female fan base (AJ interviews and art did appear in a yaoi magazine over there) but in the same way Matsukawa shot down the Edgey/Phoenix possibility, I doubt they'll ever lay down canon law on Klavier's sexuality. Which is better for the fans anyway.

Possibly... but I still refuse to ship it, simply because Klema sounds like an STI.

Occam's razor certainly is powerfully persuasive, but are we sure it applies here?

-thumb ring: You said it yourself, until recently it was almost entirely limited to gay men. Klavier seems to like to come off as a hipster, so what if he wears it just to show that he can (kind of like a guy who would flaunt pink while simultaneously maintaining he's straight)?

-clothes and magenta motorcycle: Uh, he likes the color purple? Why should that say anything about his sexual orientation?

-lipstick in the dressing room: As Johnny Rotan already explained, the use of lipstick is highly plausible within the context of a rock band's "glam effect" (i.e. using gratuitous makeup).

-"My Boyfriend Is The Prosecution's Witness": This has already been covered too, but that song could easily be from the perspective of a female. In fact, that's actually likely, considering it's implied within the game that the majority of Gavinners fans are female. Apart from that, could it really be said that most artists/bands in the real world who do something similar (writing from the perspective of the opposite sex) are homosexual? I highly doubt it.

-the flirtation with Apollo: Croik already debunked this pretty thoroughly, but even the English translation doesn't hold up as well under close scrutiny. Starting from when Apollo first sees Klavier, the script reads as follows:

Apollo: ...!
(Who's this guy...?)

???[Klavier]: I must say I'm used to being inspected by the ladies...
But this is the first time I've felt this way with a man.

Based on the text (Apollo's exclamation point, his silent question of "Who's this guy...?" and Klavier's use of the word "inspected," it's extremely likely that Apollo was staring intently at Klavier when he saw him. (And why wouldn't he, Klavier does dress rather flamboyantly, and on top of that, he looks pretty much EXACTLY like Apollo's old mentor, Kristoph Gavin.) Therefore, Klavier's remark is probably just meant to indicate that he finds it a bit odd that Apollo is staring at him the way he is.

-the heart-shaped keyring: I must admit, a girl would be MUCH more likely to have a heart-shaped anything than a guy would, but all I can say to this is, if his songs are any indication ("Guilty Love," "13 Years Hard Time For Love," "Love With No Chance Of Parole," "Atroquinine, My Love,") he is quite the romantic. And again, he does what he wants when it comes to personal style.

Citing Occam's razor means to choose the theory that is simpler, but in this case, I don't see my interpretation as being any less "simple" than yours. In fact, a couple of your points (his clothes and motorcycle color) don't even seem particularly compelling (at least in my opinion).

Maybe it's also another way to flirt with the girls. You know, he could say things like "You now have the keys to my heart" or something when he lends a girl his keys.

I know someone mentioned Franz Ferdinand, but no one's suggested this: stage gay.

Once the Franz Ferdinand guys found out that people wrote bandslash RPS about them, they apparently amped it up a lot for the slash fangirls-- they even gave a shoutout to the slacken_ties LJ fanfic community apparently.

What's to say the Gavinners aren't doing the same thing? Klavier seems to LOVE attention, and the more 'out there' he comes across, the more attention he gets.

Does anyone else remember the "is he, isn't he?" speculation about various rock and pop stars (ie. Michael Stipe, George Michael, that dude from Savage Garden)? It's... celebrity interest for people. (Remember the success of people like T.A.T.U-- who apparently didn't even get along, let alone have crushes on one another-- and more recently, Katy Perry's "Look at me, I kissed a girl, I'm so out-there and alternative and hot?" thing?)

Personally my money's on Klavier being bisexual but amping up the image aspect hardcore for the fangirls/for publicity.

I agree, they would never, NEVER say the sexuality of the characters because:

-eg. If they said that Phoenix and/or Edgeworth were 110% percent straight they would have the Phoenix X Miles fangirls/boys after them.

-Fans could think up the most crack pairings ever with out the boundries of the characters sexuality (eg. Miles X Klavier Yay my fave crack pairing)

Yay! Canonically non-straight good guy who rocks out!

All in all, this is refreshing. Until now, the series has either portrayed gay/bi characters as freakish (Jean Armstrong), or attached campy mannerisms to straight characters (Max Galactica), or left it ambiguous (Miles Edgeworth). It's neat to see a character who's cool, self-assured, one of the good guys, and apparently out of the closet - and whose homosexuality isn't made into the central defining feature of his character.

Hey, Hey who said that he was gay?

I partially agree to the point to where he is Bi Sexual, I mean seriously who has a best friend who's hair looks like a penis and not have something :pencileraser: . But their is the Klema, Yeah yeah it has no base to it, its stupid yah yah yah I know but think about it their were the really small hints (I don't remember them, but they were there.

I swear Klavier wrote it. But all actors wear make-up and so do some musicians, so why can't he wear lipstick. People do look at his lips alot so why not make them more noticable with....red lipstick?

With the 'My Boyfriend is the Prosecution's Witness' I always thought that Daryan was the witness and Klavier was the Prosecutor...

Maybe it's just a song cover originally made by some teenybopper J-pop idol. Hopefully.

And now I just have this horrible feeling that it's referencing something.

It could be referencing the song from Macross "Watashi no Kare wa Pairotto" (My Boyfriend is a Pilot)?

But wait, Genkoku = prosecutor, not prosecutor's witness (according to jisho.org) ... O__o I guess the localization team took some liberties?

I think he probably wrote it so that the fangirls can sing it and pretend that their boyfriend is the prosecutor (ie Gavin)?
