So, Mister Wind Fish, just how is she "annoying" per say that it surpasses Gumshoe's "annoyance"? In my opinion, both of them don't seem very annoying at all; they're there to lighten the mood in their special way and to help you out with cases the best they (legally) can! Gumshoe has his puns while Skye has her running gags (MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH MUNCH).
I also agree with Geodude; you couldn't really get any good trails without her investigation mini-games! She was just as big of a help that Gumshoe was, so I say...
Give me Gumshoe; give me Skye; but for the love of God, don't give me their love child!

I didn't find Gumshoe annoying at all, his "pal" thing was a good trademark in my opinion. What I didn't like about Emma was her whole"Oh crap I am a detective, I didn't want to be a detective. The world suck!!!11elven1!!" attitude, and munches. It got pretty annoying not getting any opinion from her until case 4. Sure she has some cool mini games, but they could make it even more cooler if she and Gumshoe would've worked together, because Gumshoe sucks at science (only one good minigame was the mini game in 2-4) and Emma sucks at investagting. ( In my opinion). In making her "Gumshoe" she lost every thing I liked about her character and turned rather annoying.

Hardly. You have to remember that she isn't grumpy because it's part of her personality or anything, but because of not getting her dream job that she had worked so hard for and being stuck in a job she dislikes working for a "glimmerous fop" that she claims she can't stand. That, and probably also finding out that the man she considered herself very indebted to (she probably considers him to have saved her life) was no longer a prominent defense attorney, now reduced to playing piano and poker for money. The main reason she returned after studying abroad was to repay him by using her forensic skills to help his investigations, and now he's not even a lawyer anymore.
Her youthful, sparkling enthusiasm for anything scientific is her trademark, not "grumpyness".
And I don't understand what was "lost" about her character. Her trademark love of science is still there, and that was the most notable part of her 16-year-old personality.
