I know guns. And a .45 is not a high caliber gun. well, yes it is, but what they described in Case 4-3 (Turnabout Serenade) is an exaggeration of a .45 caliber gun's power. A .45 cannot blow through someone's shoulder, it cannot create cracks around the bullet hole in the wall, and the recoil is not as powerful as they described it to be. What they described sounded more like a .460 or .500.

What do you people think?

*doesn't know guns*

Aren't guns illegal for citizens to own in Japan? Maybe the writers didn't know much about guns. As for the recoil, how bad would a gun like that be if someone never used a gun before?

Had they specifically mentioned a Colt Python, for instance (which is a gun I KNOW has a fukken crazy recoil, having fired one myself once) I'd understand (and even then it's setting the bar a little low), but yeah, I agree.

Also considering that the second shot went right through TeLouse LeTouse (I can't remember that well, but wasn't it something like that?) it was a bit strange that both bullet holes were right next to each other.
I'm not an expert with guns but shouldn't the weight of the impact deflect the bullet in an other direction?

A theory for them naming the gun .45 calibre could be this: You know all these cop films especially the Dirty Harry movies? Always when someone has this HUGE gun like a Colt Python someone says he's got a "45" or something like that (at least that's what they say in the german translations, now I don't know if it's still the same in the original let alone the japanese version). So maybe it's some sort of common belief that a .45 calibre gun has to be a huge kick-ass gun...

A bit strange that theory of mine, I know, but it could be a reason...maybe.. ^^

Isn't the .44 magnum the highest caliber weapon in existance which 'can blow your head clean off'?

Biggest caliber ever:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrett_M82
http://freedomstatesalliance.com/images/compare.jpg

There's also a popular pistol with the same diameter, but shorter length called the Desert Eagle. (ever play Counter-Strike?)

Yeah, it did strike me as a little odd that they would call it "excessive" when that's normally associated with the Deagle. Heck, I'm pretty sure plenty of law enforcement uses the M1911 (also 45-caliber).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1911_pistol
But I thought, maybe he was using magnum rounds? Those would give a big recoil and a blow-your-top-off shot. (magnum basically means more gunpowder, bigger bang)
I'm gone for so long, and the colors got all psychedelic! Woohoo!

:objection:
The 50 cals are powerful bullets, but those two guns are hardly the only guns which use them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.50_BMG
However, that is not the only problem with you're statement!
:object: You claim that the biggest caliber is the .50 which has a bullet with an aproximate bullet size of .51 inches. However, this clearly disproves your statement!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spencer_repeating_rifle
:object: But that's not all! I also have here, next to my computer, a replica union minnie ball with a caliber of .58. And I found this on wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Minie_ball_design_harpers_ferry_burton.jpg in order to prove such minnie balls exist!

Also, just for the hell of it, only the modified Mark VII model of the desert eagle and later models could shoot the .50 Action Express cartridge. The recoil of a .50 desert eagle is more than a .44 magnum http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Desert_Eagle http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.50_Action_Express

And I have an enormous tube that fires 30-foot-wide balls with a maximum effective range of 3 feet. It exists, but no one uses it, just like the spencer...Your point?

Modified? What? It's one of the available calibers. And the desert eagle is kinda mainly known for being 50 caliber anyway...

My point is this:
Katana wrote:

Since both of the weapons were used during a period in history, they are relevant to a discussion about the caliber's of guns, especially once the largest caliber ones are mentioned. I just thought I'd point out that there had been larger caliber's in past. And autocannon use the caliber system, too, but that's really besides the point. (... 30 ft wide!? :eh?: )
Katana wrote:

Yeah... I know that's what its known for, but... still, the original mark VII and prior didn't shoot 50 cal.

I just saw that case on Youtube, and when they called a .45 the largest i was like "no way". They were more describing the 44 magnum ( :texasman: the first thing you have to ask yourself is, do i feel lucky? Well do you punk.).
And don't forget both can cause even more damage if the rounds are hollow points :karate:

Was about to correct you on this when I looked at Wikipedia and realized I'd been wrong for a long time...I actually thought JHP was meant to be weaker. That's probably why I sucked at SWAT 4...you're kinda not supposed to bring excessively lethal ammo. Dangit.
