She didn't "get" emotions in the end. Little Vera in the flashback had no trouble opening up to Phoenix, laughing and smiling, when he brought up the right subject. Just because she wasn't "cheery" a day after being arrested for the murder of her father (the only person who was a daily part of her life) doesn't mean she didn't have emotions.

Plus even though in the ending she seems much happier, that doesn't mean she's gotten over all her issues just yet. I'm sure she's not about to turn into a social butterfly who loves to go out and party or something. She's probably still pretty agoraphobic and won't open up to just anyone, but we won't really know unless she shows up again (which I hope she does).

And....well, Drew was a horrible artist as far as we know. I don't think he ever sold a real painting of his own...? She may not be the only 12 year old who could outdo him XD;
