Some people in AJ have pretty strange names. How do YOU pronounce them?

:garyuu: KRIS-tahf GAY-vin
:kyouya: KLAY-vee-ur
:ema: EM-ah (It looks kinda like EE-mah...)
:gipsy: Stage name: lah-mee-WAH (French way of saying it)
Real name: thah-LAH-sah GRAM-ah-ry

for the characters you listed...
:garyuu: kris-TOF
:gipsy: her japanese name is in katakana that says "ra-mi-ro-a", so I pronounce it lah-mee-ROY-ar. seems to make sense.
:pencil: DAH-ry-en
:Maki: is definitely MAH-kee, as suggested by his japanese name in katakana. his lastname in japanese is to-baa-yu, I have no idea how that should go in english..
:doodle: i always thought was VER-ah...
Magnifi - i seem to pronounce it "Magnify" (as in the verb).... but maybe i'm just weird
LeTouse - leh-TOW-ss (as in car towing)

Spark Bruh-shul or Broo-shul
Mag-nih-fee
Shay-dee
Val-int
Vear-uh
La-mee-roh-eer (I already explained why La-mee-wah doesn't make sense; you have to pronounce the consonant before a "oir" sound in French, and it's nigh-impossible to do that with "roir"; hence why they don't have any "roir"s in French - at least, none that I can think of).
Graa-mur-ee (at first I said Graa-mur-eye, but that's not right!)

Note: put the accent and power into the syllable in CAPS. Double letters represent a letter sound that is pronounced for longer than normal. :)

Apollo Justice: ah - POL - lo JUHS - tiss
Kristoph Gavin: kris - TOFF GAV - inn
Trucy: TRUU - see
Klavier Gavin: klav - EE - er GAV - inn
Ema Skye: EMM - ah SKY
Shadi Smith: shay - DEE SMI - thh
Olga Orly: OLL - gar OH - REE - lee
Wocky Kitaki: WOK - kee kee - TAHK - ee
Alita Tiala: al - LEE - tah tee - AL - ah
Guy Eldoon: GYY el - DOO - nn
Plum Kitaki: PLL - umm kee - TAHK - ee
Pal Meraktis: PALL mer - AK - tiss
Winfred Kitaki: WINN - fr - ed kee - TAHK - ee
Wesley Stickler: wes - LEE sti - KK - lerr
Romein LeTouse: ro - MEY - nn lay - TOO - ss
Lamiroir: LAM - eer - wah - rr
Machi Tobaye: mah - CHEE toe - BYE - eh
Daryan Crescend: DARR - yan CRE - SS - sennd
Hickfield: HIK - fee - uld
Valant Gramarye: VAL - antt GRAMM - err - ee
Vera Misham: VEER - err MISS - amm
Drew Misham: DROO MISS - amm
Spark Brushel: SPARR - kk bru - SHH - ull
Zak Gramarye: ZAK GRAMM - err - ee
Magnifi Gramarye: mag - NIFF - ee GRAMM - err - ee
Thalassa Gramarye: thall - ASS - ah GRAMM - err - ee

Interesting note: notice that Lamiroir is the only word that requires more than three syllables to pronounce which is why it is so awkward to say and why it sounds especially exotic.

EDIT: Bah, missed out Trucy. XD
Does we even do these things anymore?

Hmm...
Kris-TOFF GAH-vin
KLAH-veer GAH-vin
TRUE-see
EH-mah (like the same way you'd pronounce 'emma' or the 'em' in 'emily')
Lah-mee-ROIR (sorta like 'rwar' - as I said in another thread, like the French 'la miroir' even though technically it would be 'le miroir'. - Am I missing something?)
DARR-yen CRESS-end
MAH-kee Toh-BAH-yeh (sort of like a Japanese 'e', or 'ye' even though that doesn't exist [as far as I know].)

Hm... looking at this makes me feel like I'm pronouncing all of their names wrong. When in doubt, I automatically use French phonetics, so yeah...

Kristoph Gavin - Krist-off Gahv-en
Klavier - Klahv-ee-yay (My Canadian logic: Klavier = Clavier, which is French for keyboard)
Ema - Ehm-uh (the same way you'd pronounce Emma)
Olga Orly - Oll-guh Or-lee (her name is a reference to ORLY, but since it's Orly I pronounce it normally. Plus it fits better with her first name)
Romein LeTouse - Rohm-mayn Luh-tooss (Romaine Lettuce, but I pronounce his last name the French way)
Lamiroir - Lah Meer-rwar (in my head, at least. When I try to say it out loud it comes out as 'lammy wahr')
Machi Tobaye - Mah-shee Toh-by-yay
Daryan Crescend - Dahr-yan Kres-shend
Valant Gramarye - Vah-lant Grah-mahr-yee or Grah-mahr-yay
Vera Misham - Vee-ruh Mish-um

And because I have time to waste, let's see how Microsoft Sam pronounces them:

Kristoph Gavin - Kris-toff Gah-vune ('une' like the French word)
Klavier - Klah-vaye-er (rhymes with 'fire')
Ema - Ay-muh
Olga Orly - All-guh Or-lee
Romein LeTouse - Rom-in Lee-towse
Lamiroir - Lah Meer-wahr
Machi Tobaye - Mack-aye Toh-bay (um...)
Daryan Crescend - Dayr-ee-yen Kreh-send
Valant Gramarye - Vahl-int Grah-mahr-ee
Vera Misham - Vee-ruh May-son (... wot?)

Lawl, I love Microsoft Sam. xDD
Oh yeah, forgot one. In my head, Valant = VAH-lahnt usually, or sometimes Vah-LANT. (As in a French pronounciation. Valant would roughly translate to something like "worth", am I right?)
I sometimes think "Klah-vee-AY" in my head too, since that's how I pronounced it when I first saw it.

:yuusaku: I'm actually not a fluent speaker of French...

But as far as I know 'valant' isn't a French word (though it sounds like it should be). You're probably thinking of 'valeur' (value) or 'valoir' (to be worth...). You do bring up a good point, though. Even if it isn't a word in French it probably is a similar-meaning word in another language. Could be useful for his bio page on the main CR site.

Hmm...are you sure? I'm preeeettty sure it's a word...you could say, for example..."Un diamant valant 2 millions de dollars" ; "A diamond worth 2 million dollars". That would make sense...I think? (I've been in french immersion for about 8.5 years...plus the online translator translates it as "being worth" =P) I wonder if that actually has anything to do with his name, though?

lol then why did you even have to ask? :-P

I'm in my eighth year of core French, but I only decided that I was serious about learning it last year :yuusaku: I'd never survive immersion.

Lamiroir was from northern Europe, was she not? And if I recall correctly, some picture had something looking like Cyrillic letters, so I thought some French-like pronounciation was out, and I went with the simplest, just splitting up the written syllabels: La-mi-ro-ir

Spartan-142 wrote:

In German, äu is is prnounced like "oy" I believe, so that's Froylin (With the R like in German, not like in English).

Ja is simpel, "ya".

The "ch" in Achtung is prnounced like J is in Spanish, if that helps. "tung" is something like "toong".

I'm pretty sure its Mee-Sham
:doodle: Ver-ah (verify) Mee-Sham (my sham) (Since she is the real forger)
:uh: Drew Mee-sham (As in "drew my sham" since he is supposed to be a forger)
As for the others, I'm pretty much the same as everyone else, but for
:kyouya: I've always pronounced it Klav-i-air.
Also this isn't listed as a name joke for Kristof on the characters page...
Spoiler: Just in case, whole game
Christ - off, a common name pun for characters who are evil, comapring them to the anti-christ... Since he was almost the sole reason Phoenix lost his lawyer's badge, that makes him qualify as pretty evil in the AA series

... Dude, they shoulda put a second 'm' in Ema. I've been pronouncing it Ee-mah. And now it feels weird to call her Emma.

Also,my input for now.

Well, I'm only up to 4-3, but I do think that Vera would be pronounced "VAIR-uh". Like "very", but with an "a" instead of a "y".

As for Klavier, I always thought it'd be "KLAY-vee-ur". But apparently it's a German word or something, and I know jack about German pronunciation, so I'm probably wrong.

I'm conflicted on Lamiroir, but I'd say "LAM-ih-roar" or "LAM-ee-roar".

For Lamiroir, I call her "La-Me-Rohr" on some occasions, but honestly, I sometimes call her "Celes" from Final Fantasy IV (III on the SNES) because Lamiroir's singing reminds me of Celes' song in the Opera House.
